I have been doing some research on William Bandy and his family. William served in both the Mexican War and the Civil War (for the Confederates) both times in the Jasper Greens. His Father Jessee was killed in the Seminole War fought at the time of his death. I have more information if anyone is interested. William died shortly after the Civil War. The family seemed to have spit up with several of his sons migrating and orphaned in South Carolina. Not sure why - their Mother, Georgia, lived till 1909. I have more info if anyone is interested. Also interested in finding out more on the Family as well.

Would you please e-mail a copy of the obit that you have for Archie Bandy? I would greatly appreciate it. I have searched for the obit, but have never been able to find it.

Archie's 5th child was Earl, my grandfather. His brothers are Lester, Virgil (Bud), David, and Donald (Don). The five sisters are Pearl, Evelyn, Barbara, Juanita (Evangel), and Virginia (Ginny). There are also two other children not mentioned, Archie & Atta, who both died as infants. Lester & Atta (from Archie's 1st wife) were twins (Pearl was also a child from his 1st marriage), Bud & Ginny (children of Archie & Emma (my gr-grandmother), his 2nd wife) were also twins. Archie also had a twin (Alta).

Of Archie's 11 children, 5 are still living (Evangel, Ginny, Barbara, David, and Don).

Florence is my ggrandmother and she died in Isabella TN in or around 1920. She married a man named Robert Jones. I believe that these 2 sisters are 2 of the older daughters of Thomas Jefferson Bandy.
Thanks,
Lesley

My grgrgrandmother was Rosie Bandy McGuire and a sister to Vicie. They were the children of W.W. Bandy and his second wife Malinda Woosley Bandy. Malinda, our grand mother was the daughter of Hezekiah and Margaret Husk Lowe Woosley. Malinda and Margaret were of Indian decent. Rosie and Vicie had other sisters: Ruthie Bandy Crockett, Doray Bandy Buiskill, Susie Bandy Harmon, and Mary Bandy Clifton. Also listed is your grandmother Vicie Bnady Vance. They had one brother, Whitt Bandy, who died before grandma Malinda as a young man, believed to had TB. I have an old printed photo of your crandmother, wife of Jim Vance, standing on a small front porch of an unpainted building. If you will send me your mailing address, I would be happy to mail you the entire article with photos of most of all these relatives, including pictures I mentioned and one of W.W. and Malinda. My grgrgrandmother Rosie was married to George McGuire and they lived their entire lives near Indian Creek near Cedar Bluff. Thier daughter Molly was my grandmother, married to Charles Glen Beavers. Charles Glen was descended from W.W. and his first wife, Ella Nellie Harrison Bandy. Their son Thomas who married Lilly Wingo and their daughter, Elizabeth Ellen Bandy, married Erastus Beavers, and they were the parents of Charles Glen. Be careful what you ask for sometimes huh? Hope this helps and you can make more connections. cuzzin paul

Cindy -

Funny how things work out, I was just goofing off on the net and ran across this on the google search engine. I am going to try and track down some information for you over the next couple of weeks. I am going to NC to visit my dad and mom and will search for more info. I spoke with Lynn today and he told me to get in touch with my aunts, Maddelyn of McCaysville, GA and Bobby "Bandy" Carter of Chattanooga, TN - that they would have a lot of information on the Bandy line that he could not fill in. Tom & Arizona's kids all still live nearby (McCaysville (2 kids), Asheville (1), Atlanta (1), Wolf Creek(1), Chattanooga (2 kids). There are lots of cousins out there too, 14 or 15 of us. A lot of us have children as well.

I have just moved from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale in the last few months and grew up in Asheville.

It was nice to hear from you and I will get as much info to pass along to you as I can.

Take care.

Jason

Jason, I was very excited to get your message! So far I have been getting nowhere with my Bandy line. I spoke to my father after I recieved your message, and it seems that we are cousins. Your Grandfather, Thomas, and my Grandmother Edith, were brother and sister. As a matter of fact, Thomas was my Grandmothers favorite sibling. Edith Bandy was married to Noah Cook, and they lived in Wolf Creek, N.C. My father is Parks Cook. He, or course, knows your father and grandfather. Small world ,huh? Thomas and Edith's father was Frank Bandy, who was married to Bertha Nelson. So far that's all I know. If you have anymore info, please let me know.

Cindy Cook

His father was Thomas Alexander Bandy (Tom) and his mother was Arizona (Morrow) Bandy. Tom had 7 children, 4 boys, 3 girls. Tom passed in 1984 from Cancer and Arizona passed of natural causes in 1988. I will get more information on Tom's siblings and forward the information as I can.

Would love to know what you have found in your searches.

Jason Bandy

Great, Thank you for the information.
I may have uncovered one of Our Bandy's listed in your last post.
I have been researching Vandykes which married into the Bandy women after a mine explossion in Bishop virginia that Killed several Bandy men.
I noticed on one Bandy death the Informant providing family history to the hospital was a Vandyke.
So I looked for Vandykes, some that are related have a space between the Van and the Dyke part of the last name so I have been pulling up the name in both manners with and without a space between Van and Dyke.
Bandy women also married in Hatfiels and McCoys and I am still digging in this area.
I have come accoss a marriage licence listing the Mother as a Bandy but I had previously been looking for 3 women that turns =out is actually only one Bandy woman.
My computer went out as I had just come accross is and I am trying to relocated that marriage document.
She had a name something like Virginia rebeccaa Ruth and used one first name then used another then the other and trhis has been keeping me in a confussed state and going in circles.

Death certificates under other sernames has provided some new insights on my Bandy line.

Email me at Lilly_Rose@comcast.net and we can exchange information and perhaps piece these people together.
Also the surname Mitchel or Mitchell.
Thanks for contacting me. I look forward to comparing our notes.
Sherry
Re: Bandy- Tenn, N.C., Ga. area

Dear David -
I have a mystery that I'd love assistance with. In the early part of the 20th century, maybe in the 19-teens, a woman who was probably either Eve or Eva Bandy married a man named John McGhee. I believe they lived in or near Knoxville, TN, but I can't find them in any of the censuses. She died sometime after 1913 and he remarried. Her children (there was a boy named John and a girl named Margaret) went to live with their maternal grandparents, whose names were Barney and ??? Bandy. They gave the boy their name so that he grew up as John Bandy. When he was an adult and had a child, he restored the surname McGhee to that child, whose name I *think* was Mike.

I have reason to believe that Eve or Eva (if either were her name) was originally from Olive Springs, which I think is in Roane. I don't know where to look for her or how to proceed from this point. I couldn't find anything on the Roane County TenGenWeb site. many thanks for any assistance you might provide.

This probably won't reach you. Your post was 2001.
Matthew Bandy was my GGreat Grandfather.
His parents were Thomas L. (1792) & Mary Polly West (1798)
There is a cemetery on what was his property.
There was a church called Cedar Grove Methodist Episcopal Church that was deeded by Matthew and Judy that later moved and is now called Goodwin Memorial Methodist Church about a mile from where the original was.
My Great Grandfather was John Mitchell & Amanda Maria Bandy Goodwin. Grandfather Robert Mathew Goodwin.
I would love to have a copy of Matthew's will and marriage.
I live close by Bandy property if you need anything, like cemetery pictures.

Is the J W Bandy you refered to in your 2005 query the son of Isaac T Bandy? Isaac went to Tx from Va then returned to Va but some of his children stayed in Tx. Wondering if this is Joseph William?
Judith
