William E. Baney Jr., 76,
of 22 Commerce St., Lock Haven,pa,
passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.
A lifelong resident of Lock Haven, he was the son of the late William and Anna McNerney Baney.
On Nov. 17, 1956 he married Lucille G. Dicello Baney, who survives. The ceremony was performed in Saint Agnes Catholic Church by Rev. John J. Burkardt.
Bill, who was affectionately referred to as "Web" by many of his friends and relatives, was an usher at St. Agnes Catholic Church and a third-degree member and a past Grand Knight of the Lock Haven Council #1774 Knights of Columbus. He was also a fourth-degree member of Our Lady of Victory Assembly #1945 in State College.
Bill was a 1952 graduate of the Lock Haven High School and attended Lock Haven State Teachers College.
He was a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Brownson during the Korean War.
Bill was employed as a systems analyst by Andritz-Sprout-Bauer in Muncy, retiring in 1996.
In the '50s, he coached the Immaculate Conception High School Basketball Team. He also managed the Knights of Columbus Junior League Baseball Team, winning the city championship in 1976. One of his rules was win or lose, every team member played.
After the 1972 flood, Bill led a local citizens advisory group exploring the options for future flood protection for the City of Lock Haven. Prior to the vote by Lock Haven City Council, Bill addressed council in support of the project.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Lucille, are two sons, William E. Baney III and his wife, Carla, of Lock Haven and Joseph A. Baney and his wife, Twila, of Flemington; one daughter, Cathy A. Gedon and her husband, George, of Lock Haven; five grandchildren, Beth and her husband Zack Maffett, William E. Baney IV, Michael, Kristen and Kelly Gedon.
Also surviving are nephews James, Robert and Thomas Lovette and a niece, Jill Lovette Ward.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James W. Lovette.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the St. Agnes Catholic Church with Celebrant Norman Ingrund officiating.
Friends may call at the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Vigil of the deceased will be held at 7:45 with Knights of Columbus Recital of Rosary at 8 p.m.
Interment will be in the Saint Agnes Catholic Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Agnes Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
