Thomas William Baney , born,Union City, Pa., the son of Charles and Betty Baney.
Thomas William Baney Thomas William Baney was called home to be with his Lord on February 4, 2009 after a brief illness. He was born on May 27, 1947 in Union City, Pa., the son of Charles and Betty Baney. Tom resided in Waterford for several years, graduated from Fort LeBoeuf High school in 1967 and was a member of the Waterford Nazarene Church before moving to Colorado Springs, Colo. to attend Nazarene Bible College. While in Colorado he met and fell in love with Judy Dunsing who became his wife on March 27, 1971 and remained his lifelong sweetheart. Tom graduated from NBC in 1973. After retirement in 2005, Tom and Judy moved to Kewanee, Ill. Together they had three sons, Thomas (Rebecca) of Ill., Jeremy (Shelly) of Ind. and Jason (Deana) of Pa. He is further survived by three granddaughters, Alyssa Renee, Niva Emily, Amber Rochelle; and one grandson Noah William, who were all adored by their grandfather. He is also survived by four sisters, Carolyn Seigworth, Jane Brown (Edward), Alice Baney, and Delanne Heckman (Albert); and three brothers, Rev. Frederick Baney (Cheryl), Timothy Baney, (Susan) and Larry Baney (Amy). All of his siblings reside in the Waterford/Erie area. Tom enjoyed his large family which included many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers, Michael and Patrick. Tom had a great love for music that was demonstrated by his dynamic solos in churches all over the country. His family finds comfort in the imagery of a new member in that majestic choir whose beautiful tenor voice rings through the Heavens. Friends and family are welcome to attend a Memorial Service celebrating Tom's life on February 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Waterford Church of the Nazarene. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow at the Stancliff Hose Company in Waterford. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family through Tom and Rebecca Baney, 419 Rockwell St., Kewanee, IL 61443. Sign the guestbook at www.GoErie.com/obits Published in the Erie Times-News on 2/19/2009,

Church of the Nazarene.

We probably have written before. I did find Eli Baney drowned there in Delaware Co. I also found that Richard Franklin Baney"s father, Jacob died in Marshall Co at age about 80 in July of 1930 The family story I heard was that two of David"s sons went West after the Civil War Mary Sparks marries Andrew Baney, in Illinois She and Andrew are on the 1880 census in Kansas with Richard F. Sparks. Son Richard F Baney is 8 years old I have Richard F. Baney's death cert. which gives his father as Jacob Baney and mother Sparks. So the question.. Was his father Andrew as on the census or Jacob as on the death cert?. I also have a listing for the city of Mishawaka having Jacob Baney in the household with Richard F. Baney and his family. The directory I believe was for 1927 or 28.
In Marshall Co Poor Home where Jacob Baney died he gave his father as David Baney and mother at Martha Dickover.instead of Sarah. my email has changed to ellen.baney@gmail.com

Families of John, George C. and Frank Baney in Pittsburgh, PA.

I am searching for information on a Baney family living in and around Pittsburgh in the second half of the 19th century and onward. I am descended from John J. Baney (1863-1944) who married Ann Elizabeth Martin in 1883 at St. Paul Cathedral. The marriage return listed is residence at 27 Federal St. in Pittsburgh’s 7th ward.

By locating this exact address in the 1880 census I was able to find John’s family under a name that seems to be an error (I do not see how it could be any attempted variation). The name appears as “Bamik.” They can be found in the Pittsburgh 1880 census on page 28, Enumeration Dist. 111. John is working as a glass blower with his father and two other younger brothers.

His father is named John and is age 60. There is no mother present even though the father John is checked off as being married in column 10 in the census. His two other brothers George and Frank are 13 and 8 years of age respectively.

The father is listed as being born in Germany. His sons list their mother (though absent) as German-born in column 26. When the sons appear throughout the 1900-1930 census schedules. They are completely inconsistent with themselves and each other in reporting their mother’s place of birth. Pennsylvania, New York, and Germany are all listed different times. I have seen many errors where somebody simply failed to list an ancestor as foreign born instead of being native to the state but perhaps there might be a source of confusion on the history of their mother is this case.

John J. Baney and Ann Elizabeth Martin had my great-grandmother Gertrude Margaret (b. 1883), Joseph A. (b. 12/1885), Agnes Rose (b. 1888) and Ann Elizabeth (b. 1890)

Frank Baney married Margaret and had John, Annie, Joe, George, Edgar, Elizabeth, Mary, Frances, Robert, Katherine, and Marcella.

George C. Baney married a Rebecca H. Sprole(sp?) and had sons George (b.1890) and Edward (b. 1893). In 1910 George is widowed and living with a Valentine Miller’s family. By the 1920 census, George was remarried to a Katherine L. and living in Mount Oliver Borough, Allegheny Co.

Some family suggested that John J Baney (b. 1863) may have been born in Verona, PA. I have not verified that, however. I think it was also mentioned that Valentine Miller was John’s step-brother. I haven’t verified that either but apparently there was some connection as George C. was boarding with Valentine in 1910. I assume all the Baneys were probably Roman Catholic since my gg-grandfather John was. I found it interesting that although they had at least a German father, the three brothers all took wives with Irish/British connections.

If anybody can tell me anything more such as the original spelling of the name, where exactly in Germany the Baney family originated, or the background of the mother don’t hesitate to contact me.

I also have an Andrew Bainey/Baney in my family. He was born around 1817 and died bet 1887 and 1880. He supposedly was born in Pennsylvania. He was married twice, once to a Mary E. and once to a Mary J. He and his family lived in Centre County, PA. I have not been able to trace Andrew's family any further back than 1850 in Centre County. I don't know if he was just missed by all of the other censuses prior to 1850 or if he came from somewhere else. Would you have more information to share about your Andrew Baney and his family, especially his son, Andrew. He would have been abt 34 when my Andrew was born. Thank you.

Susan Kropat Ferrill

Rich,
I don't think Albon Baney was in the same family as my Baney family. There were two groups of Baneys in Centre County. One stemmed from William Bainey, son of Andrew Bainey (the name change came in the early 1900's). This is the Baney family I am related to. Who were Albon's parents? I am familiar with Albon, having seen his name in many places in my research. I have never been able to see where he might fit into my family. Thank you though! :)

Susan

I have a copy of a ship's manifest, the Orient, that embarked from Bremen, Germany at New York, New York on October 2, 1834. The Bohne (original spelling) relatives listed were: Henry G or J.--age 60, Ann D. age 32, Lewis A. (my great grandfather), Ann--age one and one half years, Johann (sp--John?) age 30, and Herman--age 28. John was headed to New York--the others were headed for Illinois. Do you have any firm birth records for John? Could there be a connection?
Thanks

I believe I may have a great great grandfather named John who came from Germany at the age of 28--on the ship the Orient (landed in the port of New York October 2, 1834) with other family members. Henry--age 60, Ann D.--age 32, Lewis A (Adolphus?)--age 10, Ann--age one year and 1/2, and Herman--age 28. Two of them may have died at sea.
Let me know what you think!

Another child is mentioned but the writing is messy and hard to make out but Oril is a possibility! Do you know anything else about Etta because that's the side I am on.
