Hi Frank,

My grandmother's maiden name was Bania. Her name was Katarzynia. She was born in Dzielice, Poland, was baptised in the nearby village of Cieklin. She came to the U.S. in 1909 and settled in Chicago. She lived with an uncle (surname of Jendryczki) and his family. She married Maciej Zychowski (of Dulabka, Poland) in 1912. She had 2 brothers that we know of, one was Michael and the other brother's name is unknown. It is believed that the the latter brother was in the military and died in Siberia. We know of only one sister and her name is Anna. It is unknown whether she came to the U.S. or stayed in Poland.

Joan Kalinowski-Koch

Hello relative! The extent of my knowledge of the Bania ancestry is that Walter Bania first immigrated here from Poland. His family ran a grocery store in Chicago (or so I understand it) until it burned down. Perhaps this was the bourding house that you mentioned (I may have misunderstood my grandmother). After this some of them moved to Wisconsin. One of the sons, Richard (my grandfather) married Teresa Kayler. They bought a farm and raised my father, uncles, and aunt. Do you know any of them by chance? Jimmy, Ricky, Kenny (my dad), Randy and Cindy. They had another daughter who was killed in a car accident as an infant. I hope that this information may be of some help to you. Either way, please email me at the adress listed above.

Looking for BANIA family - Detroit, MI

There was a BANIA family which came from Krzeszow, Austria (now Poland) who
lived on Roosevelt St in Detroit. They ran a boarding house of sorts which many
Krzeszow villagers came to board and work in the factories of Detroit. From
some of passenger lists my relatives list members of the BANIA family as relatives.
What I am trying to figure out is if there really was a family connection or did
my relatives just make up a story for immigrations. And what happened to this
family after the 1920s in Detroit.

Re: Krzeszow, Poland

John,

Krzeszow still exists and I think somewhere I read the village is 600 years old. As for genealogy help in the village I am trying several methods. The priest in the village does not read or write in English and his one correspondence with me was through a niece in Canada. He did not find much information and he does not have a photocopier. Getting a copy of a relatives record from the church book won't happen. I am trying to get my relatives in Krzeszow to send me information but they are slow in responds.

Krzeszow in south of Wadowice (home of Pope John Paul II) and north of the border. Near Lachowice which has and old wooden church. Bielsko Biala is also near by and Krzeszow is located in the Carpathian Mnts.

Dav

Hi, Sorrry I can't help you with your family BANIA. My Grandparents, which I never knew, came to America in 1912 from Krzeszow. I just found this out on the Ellis Island home page. Can you tell me if Krzeszow still exist? What is it near? Is there genealogy help to be found there? etc. Any information appreciated. Thanks, Jim Downs

Hi Frank,

He was 16 in the 1930 census. So I ;would gather he was born in 1913-1914 depending upon when his birthday fell.

Joan

Hi Frank,

I am trying to find out the info you need. My mom was not sure whether her cousin, Frank, ever married. He was a lot older than her and she moved out of Illinoiw when she married in 1943. I checked with my Uncle Ed, but he was even younger yet. He said he will check with my oldest living uncle to see if he remembers. I probably won't know until after Thanksgiving.

Joan
