Hi:
I believe that we are searching for the same people, many of the facts you mention match up with mine.
I started researching Moores many years ago, as my Mom was a Moore. I found her dad Richard Noble moore, had several siblings and Gertrude Moore (born High Bluff, Manitoba) was one of them.
Gertrude and Melville Bannerman I think had a few kids, but I haven't had much luck locating them, except Understand there was a Margaret (Tibby) who married Eddie Hughes.
Please reply to lhunter@islandnet.com
We can confer there too.
Lianne Hunter

I have a little information on Thompas Player Bannerman.

Thomas Player Bannerman was the son of George Bannerman and Hester Player Bannerman of new Hanover/Bladen County North Carolina.

Thomas Player, born 19 Apr 1809 in Bladen County NC, married Mary Kerr of North Carolina, moved to Kemper County Mississippi prior to 1837 when he was listed on the county tax list. He died sometime before 1841 when his heirs received a part of his father George Bannerman’s estate. He is buried in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Cemetery located south of Mississippi Hwy 16 on Jackson Hwy road. The 1854 Land Rolls list his estate in section 14 township 12 range 18, with 266 acres. His sons George Henry (who married Mary Neeley, daughter of Mississippi Senator O Yancy Neeley ) and Thomas Player volunteered for the 35th MS Regiment, Co. B, organized and enlisted 1 March 1862. After his brother Joseph Williams Bannerman died in 1857, Thomas’ widow Mary raised JW’s son Robert Dickson Bannerman with her own children.

Harvey,

Thanks for your mail. As l told you, l am from the root of the late Governor James Bannerman. Bannerman is a big house hold name in Ghana because of what our ancestors did in those days. They are also hard working and very intelligent people.

I am currently writing a book on Bannermans in Ghana, which will be ready soon.

The late James Bannerman had a house in the seat of government which is situated in a beautiful place about three mins walk to the government house. I have lived in that house for some time now and people come as tourist to see the building.

The Bannerman family have been having meeting in the that building on a monthly basis.

I am also from the Bannerman family, preferably from James Bannerman. I live in Accra, Ghana, particularly in Osu.

The Bannerman's have a family house in Amanfong, Castle Road, 3 minutes walk to the seat of Ghana house. The house is so beautiful built and l have lived in that house for three years now. I was told, it was bought by the late Governor of Gold Coast, Sir James Bannerman around 1800. I have other information to anyone who might be interested about Bannerman's in Ghana.

I always go to family meetings, family parties and many other activities with the Bannerman family. The people who attended such meetings are so much, and it is always joy to attend.

Anyone can contact me on eddiebisa22@yahoo.com

My g-g-g grandfather - Donald McPherson married Grizzel Bannerman of Kildonan. Their son John and daughter Catherine crossed on the Prince of Wales ship (I have a passengers list) to (eventually) the Red River settlement. I have a letter from J. Diefenbaker in which he states "My great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Bannerman were on the "Prince of Wales", which landed at Fort Churchill in late October 1813" - I cannot see on this passenger list any George Bannerman listed with a wife. There was a passenger # 59 George Bannerman but no listed wife. This is the only George B listed. Any comments?

My great-grandmother Euphemia Craig nee Bannerman (1838-1911) was a daughter of George Bannerman (1795-1875)at one time of Dunnikier House, Kirkcaldy,Fifeshire, and his wife Ann Gray.George was a son of William Bannerman b. Barony,Glasgow in 1751 and his wife Elspeth Matheson.William was a son of Thomas Bannerman b. Barony 1723, a grandson of John Bannerman b. Glasgow 1679, and a g-grandson of John Bannerman who m. Catherin Proven in Glasgow in 1672. The information that I have is that John Diefenbaker was a son of William Thomas Diefenbaker and Mary Florence Bannerman, daughter of John and Flora Bannerman; and his great-grandmother Christina or Christian Bannerman may be a 2nd or 3rd cousin of my gggrandfather George Bannerman - this would make John Diefenbaker my mother's 4th or 5th cousin.Christina may have been the daughter of either Alexander Bannerman m.Isabella Bruce, or John Bannerman m. Janet Sutherland, who were brothers or possibly cousins of my g-g-g-grandfather William Bannerman. See also my posting of 11 Feb 2001 on Ancestry.com, and the reply of 8 Apr 2005 by Robert Cameron.Another item that I have states that John Diefenbaker descends from John Bannerman, son of George Bannerman (son of Alexander Bannerman in Ulbster) and Christian Bannerman, who emigrated from Kildonan, Sutherland, to the Red River Settlement in Manitoba, and in 1815 moved to Holland Landing, Ontario, settling in W.Gwillimbury,Simcoe County.
Roderick Drummond, Papakura, New Zealand

Thanks for your response. In my database there is an Alexander Bannerman, born circa 1833, son of John Robert Bannerman, but I have no data on his wife or family. As an aside, since my original posting for Charles Bannerman who came from Scotland, it appears that his wife's surname was spelled Huffham rather than Huffman.
Dear jimb61,

I saw that you submitted an inquiry to Ancestry which contains the name: Charles McGregor Bannerman

I am preparing a history of Magnolia Masonic Lodge No.113 which was in Magnolia, Anderson county, Texas from 1852-1875 [it was restarted in 2005 in Magnolia, Montgomery county, Texas]. Two men who we believe were sons of Charles M. Bannerman were early members and officers of our Lodge.

The brothers were Robert J. Bannerman and George W. Bannerman. We ahow their father (Charles McGregor Bannerman) was born 1745 in Glascow, Scotland and moved to North Carolina. Charles married Elizabeth Solomon Huffman (born abt.1728) about 1750. We believe they had 8 kids.

You state Charles was born 1725, but there so many matches I believe we have the same person.

Do you have more information about this person that you could share with me? We would appreciate learning more about him and his family, especially his two sons who were members of our Lodge. Was Charles a Freemason in North Carolina or Scotland? We especially hope to find a photo of Robert or George. We also would appreciate looking at your Family Tree-- what is the name it is listed under, and is it Public?

Thank you,

Jim Voelkle jpvoelkle@hotmail.com

I have just stumbled across this message board whilst surfing the net. Quite intriguing, my maiden surname is Bannerman. I am a Ghanaian (black) but now resides in South Africa. I'm a descendant of Sir James Bannerman, a one-time lieutenant governor in the Gold Coast - what Ghana was known as before it gained independence. Sir James Bannerman came from Edinburgh in Scotland. Whilst occupying the seat of governor, he got married to the daughter of an Asante king. Their offsprings, Alexander, William, Henry etc., subsequently married pure Ghanaians. Does any one know of a John Bannerman, who is pure British, visited Ghana fairly recently? I understand he is a direct descendant of Sir James Bannerman. There's a lot about us (Gold Coast/Ghanaian Bannermans) in African history books, encyclopaedias etc. I'd like to know if anyone has come across my brother, William Bannerman, who left Ghana in 1961. We have lost touch with him. He was studying in the University somewhere in London. My dad, Dr Emmanuel William Bannerman, who passed away a year ago, at age 87 had so much wanted to see him, his first son. Please let me hear from you, the Bannermans!

Hi,

I am not sure when you posted your message, but I'd like to tell you that there are quite a few Bannermans in London and maybe who knows some of them might know your brother, that is if he is still alive. What ever the case you might try and direct your search there. This may come too late.

Take care and good luck.

Edith Marbell
