. William Peter Bappe was born on June 5, 1863 in rural Wiota, IA. He died on October 23, 1934 in Anthon, IA. He Died of heart failure (enlarged heart and high blood pressure). He was buried in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA. He Obituary. William P. Bappe Died Oct. 12, 1934

Funeral services for William P. Bappe, 70, a resident of Woodbury County for more than 50 years who died Tuesday night in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gerald Thompson (Bessie) of Anthon, will be held at 2:30 this afternoon in the Nelson-Berger Chapel. Rev. Mr. Hiller of Correctionville will officiate and the internment will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.
Mr. Bappe edited the Yorktown Independent at Yorktown, Iowa, and the Lawton Journal at Lawton, Iowa, for many years. Failing eyesight forced him to abandon his journalistic career and he became a mason. He retired from that trade about 12 years ago. Mr. Bappe was born in Atlantic [actually Wiota] June 9, 1864, and came to Woodbury County in 1883.
Surviving Mr. Bappe are three sons, Justin of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Bazel and Victor of Correctionville, two daughters, Ina of Sioux City, and Mrs. Thompson (Bessie) of Anthon, two sisters, Mrs. F.W. (Ella) Johnson of Moville and Miss Julia Bappe of Lawton, two brothers Henry Bappe of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and John Bappe of Lawton and three grandchildren. He and his family lived on a farm near Lawton, IA (at Stone's Grove), then moved to Mississippi, then to Lawton where he printed the Lawton Journal, then to Correctionville, IA.

He was married to Rosella Mae Marr on September 6, 1893. Rosella Mae Marr was born on February 14, 1872 in James, Iowa. She died on April 12, 1913 in Correctionville, IA. She was buried in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA. She Obituary. Mrs. Will Bappe Is Called Home, April 14, 1913

Mrs. Wm Bappe, a former resident of this place, but who for the past year and a half had resided at Correctionville, passed away at her home in that city on last Friday evening. She was 41 years of age.
Rosella Mae Marr was born at James, Iowa, on February 14, 1872. When 18 months old her parents moved to Brookhaven, Mississippi. On Sept 6, 1893, she was united in marriage to Mr. Wm Bappe at Brookhaven, Mississippi. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Bappe moved to Iowa. To this union were born six children, who with their father survive. They are: Justin, Eva, Ina, Bazil, Bessie, and Victor.
Mrs. Bappe was converted at the age of 16, and became a member of the M.E. Church, and remained a faithful member to the end. She was a woman who never hesitated to go out of her way to help another in need. She was a loving wife and mother and her last request to her loved ones was that they meet her in heaven. Sympathy goes out to the motherless children.
Vain is the attempt to measure the loss of a mother to her children, for there is no love like mother love. We believe the tender care devoted to those nearest and dearest, went with her to the better land, and in the possibilities of eternity, may be needed here after.
Besides her husband and children, deceased is survived by her mother and father, two brothers and one sister, all residing at Brookhaven, Mississippi. The funeral was held last Monday, and the remains taken to Moville and interment made in the cemetery at that place. {Later the remains were moved to Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City.} William Peter Bappe and Rosella Mae Marr had the following children:

+20	i.	Justin A. Bappe (born on June 28, 1895).
21	ii.	Eva May Bappe was born on March 14, 1897 in Moville, IA. She died on January 22, 1919 in F.W. Johnson home in Banner Twp, Woodbury Co., IA. She was buried in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA. She Died of influenza complicating asthma. She was a school teacher in rural school 6 miles NE of Lawton, IA. She Obituary. Death of Young Lady January 22, 1919

Eva Mae Bappe passed away on Wednesday January 22, 1919, at the home of her aunt Mrs. F.W. (Ella) Johnson in Banner Township, after a few days' illness of pneumonia following influenza.
The funeral was held Friday afternoon, when services were conducted at the home of her aunt, and at Graceland Chapel by Rev. W.D. Jones, pastor of the Lawton Presbyterian Church. The love and esteem of which Miss Bappe was held by the patrons of the school which she taught was manifest by the large number who attended the funeral and by the beautiful floral tributes.
Eva Mae Bappe was born near Moville, Iowa, on March 14, 1877, and died January 22, 1919, aged 22 years, 10 months and 8 days. She has left to mourn her departure her father William P. Bappe, two sisters, Ina and Bessie, and three brothers, Justin, Bazel, and Victor all of Correctionville, Iowa. Never married.
+22	iii.	Ina Laurine Bappe (born on January 25, 1899).
+23	iv.	Bazel Lloyd Bappe (born on April 8, 1901).
+24	v.	Bessie Floyd Bappe (born on April 8, 1901).
+25	vi.	Victor Rollin Bappe (born on November 21, 1907).
Do you have any information on a Rose Marr Bappe? She is connected to my husband. She and her husband lived in
Iowa and have disappered on census records after 1900
Census. There were supposed to be 6 children, Justin, Eva, Ina, Bessie, Hazel (I think) and Victor.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Peggy Jordan

Hi Matt! You are my cousin. My dad was Walter Bappe, Art's brother. Don't know if you remember your dad bringing you to our house to see "Uncle Walt"& "Aunt Irene". I remember you when you were little of course. Good to know there's some Bappe's keeping in touch, huh?

My married (now divorced) name is Holmes. My sister Rita Holmes (no connection in the Holmes part - just coincidence - isn't that funny?) Her and her family, sons, daughter, grandchildren all live in St. Paul. Maybe you've heard from her. My brother Steve (chiropractor in Hastings) lives in Apple Valley. So there are quite a few of the Bappe clan living in the twin city area.

Take care,

Sue
Hi Don, Was just surfing the message boards under Porter and lo and behold another Bappe showed up. At least we never have to wonder if we are related ! I am new to this genealogy stuff but I have acquired quite a bit of information thanks to kind relatives. Your side settled in the Essex, Atlantic area didn't they? Were they ever in Fergus Falls?
I live in Minnesota and have often wondered if there are any relatives left there. My Grandfather was George Thomas Bappe. He married Minnie Marquart. My Dad was Walter Robert Bappe. He married Irene Berhow. I have a lot of loose ends as far as German relatives and other branches of the Henry Christopher Bappe family. So far I have had no luck with finding any relatives in Germany or here for that matter. Did you ever know what the Geman name was ? I have seen Poppa and also Poppe. Anxious to hear from you. Keep in touch.
Rita
