No, my mother was adopted into the family as an only child. So I don't carry the surname and have no blood relationship, and I never met any of the Baptie relatives growing up. I did contact a couple in my attempt to share the family history information I had.

Hi my name is Tammy Baptie, I'm sorry but I am unaware of any adoption from the Peter Baptie(my father)of Calgary, Alberta side of the family though I would have been extremely happy to have a sister. I was born July 12th, 1962 and have a brother Lance Baptie born Oct. 1964. It would be interesting though if there was any family likeness. You can contact me at tamjam1@optusnet.com.au if you would like photos. Hope your sister has an outcome soon. Kind Regards, Tammy

I have history of this family and old photos, and am looking for descendants who would like to have them.

George and Jannet's children were Charles (b. 1834), John (1835), James (1838), George (1840), Thomas (1843), Elizabeth (1845), Edward (1848) -- all born in Scotland.

Known descendant surnames are listed above.

Warrwick, I don't have much information about this family tree and haven't been investigating it, which is why I was looking for other descendants who might be more interested. (My mother was adopted into the family and had no siblings and left us with no connections to the family...just photos.) In fact, I did find cousins who wanted the photos and the information I have. But I don't think they've done any further investigation.

I can only guess that your John Baptie could have been a cousin or brother to our George Baptie who was married in 1833. If it's any help, our George Baptie lived in Edinburgh, and his children were born in the parishes of Inveresk and Duddingston.

I have a note that looks like an excerpt from an Edinburgh city directory from 1851-52 which shows a John Baptie, "carpenter and house agent." [James and David Baptie are also shown, but no George, so I'm not sure why we have this excerpt, unless someone thought that George was related to one of these Bapties.]

According to another set of notes a John Baptie had a descendant named William (b. 1860 in Edinburgh) who became a Surgeon General "Sir William Baptie" and apparently well known in WWI.. as "Brave Baptie." (!) I don't know if this John Baptie from Edinburgh is the same John Baptie in the city directory. And I'm not sure if either is related to George Baptie,...apparently someone thought so at one time, but the notes are not clear.

There's also a note that John Baptie "settled in Edinburg and were (sic) seedmen and went through lots of money..." ?

Sorry I can't be of more help!

Correction to my last post: The reason that "Aunt Nellie" wasn't in my family tree is that she was from different Baptie family. This other related Baptie family lived in Sumer, Washington in 1923. It turns out that someone from "our" Baptie family met this other Baptie family, and that the two families determined they were related. (No information on how they knew that.) The other family's "Mrs. Baptie" wrote down an extract from a letter (1917) from her Aunt Nellie. That was the information about Sir William Baptie, and her relationship to him via her gggrandfather's brother.

Hello Isabel,

I think it's possible that the families are related, but the connection would be from a time before my family tree.

I don't show Rachel, and based on the year she was married, she would appear among the children of George and Jannet. Their children, born between 1834 and 1848, are Charles, John, James, George, Thomas, Elizabeth and Edward. The first 4 children were born in the Parish of Inveresk, and the last 3 in the Parish of Duddingston.

I show only the descendants of these people on my family tree. I want to say that the commonality of given names in our two families may indicate a relationship (furhter back). But then, the same names were probably used by many families, so maybe that doesn't mean much.

I know we do have a relationship to at least some Bapties from with Edinburg. For example, there was a Sir William Baptie born in Edinburg in 1860 and awarded the Victoria Cross, probably in WWI. I have a note passed down from "Aunt Nellie" in 1917 that Sir William was a descendant of her great great grandfather's brother John. I don't show a "Nellie" on my family tree but am guessing that George Baptie and Jannet Henry were her grandparents, and that the connection to the Edinburg family via John Baptie was 2 generations prior to my family tree.

I have shared the information I have with, plus old family photos, with another family member who is an actual descendant. (My mother was adopted into the family.) It's possible that he knows more or has since investigated more. I'll send you his email address directly.

Thank you for taking the trouble to send the information on Jane Baptie. I do not believe we have the same person. My Jane Baptie married - well the marriage record has not been found, and it may have been a handfast marriage, Andrew Broadwood in about 1840, likely near Hawick, Roxburgh, Scotland. Alexander Broadwood and his son, William Broadwood, emigrated to Canada eventually, but I do not know if Jane came with them, or if she was even alive by then. That is the problem so little known about Jane.

Jane Baptie

I can't find any record of a Jane Baptie in my stuff. I am decended from Thomas Baptie (1840) and Cecil Backman who had Robert Baptie(1852-1933) and Mary Bookless(1855-1926). They had 12 offspring and 7 of them came to Western Canada in about 1911. I did not hear of any of them going to Ontario but have just started my search on this side of the family. My email address is billtempany@home.com if you would like to get ahold of me directly and if I stumble across any connection, I will let you know.

Bill

Baptie

I am trying to find anyone with knowledge of the Baptie Family who came from Scotland in the early 1900's to the Cochrane Canada area from Tarland Scotland. His father, Robert Baptie moved into the Muirton at Tarland which was located on Lord Aberdeen's (Governor General to Canada 1883-1898) estate (The House of Cromar). The move from Jedburgh came in 1901.He was game keeper on this estate until about 1931. He died in 1933 at age 79. His mother was Mary Bookless. Anyone with more information, please contact me.

Bill
