Walter was from Ashcroft his Father August came from Chile. My husbands mother was Walter's sister and her name was Rosa. Its too bad this family never stayed connected as their history is so interesting. Mary Augusts wife died of unterin cancer when she was 34. We have a copy of her death certificate as well as August and Mary's marriage licence. They were married in Ashcroft.Dec 7, 1910 in the Presbyterian Church.

Does anyone know the maiden name of the Mary Bara that was married to August Bara? I have their marriage certificate and all it gives is her first name with (indian) in brackets but no maiden name. She was from Chilliwack BC.

I have a 17 year old son Justin Bara, he is the son of Leslie Bara and the grandson of Mike Bara. He is also the great nephew of Emily Bara.

Stopped in Ashcroft this summer and talked to Kathy Paulos (Museum Supervisor museum@ashcroftbc.ca ) and she is looking for old photos pertaining to Ashcroft. My mother and father lived they during the early 1950s, my father ran the liquor store.Anyway when we moved to Vancouver we lived in the same neighborhood with Fred and Jessie nee Bara Lum. I was married to Darlene their second daughter and became good friends with all the family. The whole history of the Bara family is intriguing much more interesting than my own family.
I am sure that Cathy would be very interested in hereing from you.

Theda Bara was a cousin of Minnie Goldstein, an ancestor of my husband's, whose family tree I am researching. I have some letters written by her to Minnie in 1902 when she was in Avondale. I probably have pictures as well from her youth, but I cannot yet identify them. Any help you can give me with my search would be appreciated.

Hi There,

I'm Daniel Bara. My grand father, Arturo, migrated to Argentina from Italy round the 1900s.
I'm trying to reconstruct our family tree, as far back as possible.

Has anyone in the Bara family tried something like that? I'm willing to dedicate time to this challenging task.

My dad's name is David Bara. All I know is that his mother's name was Anna and she lived in Pittsburg before moving to Philadelphia. Im pretty sure Anna has relatives that llve in Pittsburg but have no idea of names........

My father was Waldemar Bara (1923-1993)and was from that region of Poland. He came from a place called Birkental, which as far as I can ascertain is now a suburb of Oppole - just up the road fron Katowice.

His father was Leopold and his mother Gertrude. He had two brothers - Ferdinand and Eryk and one sister Christine.

If this ties in with anything you have I would be interested to know.

August Bara was my grandfather.
He met and married? my grandmother Betty. They went on to have many children, mostly all boys. My grandfather and grandmother resided in Ashcroft until my grandfather left the family. I was told that my grandfather was originaly from Chile. My grandmother is Of First Nations heritage.

I would like to work on all the missing pieces of my family background as I was taken away at a very young age and grew up in foster homes.

As I child I was always told my ancesters were Slovok or Polish. At one time my grandmother (Anna Bara) lived in Pittsburg Pa., where my father was born. My father is now in his 60's.

Both of my parents came from eastern Europe. My father had one brother, John.My father's name was Louis. He had two ststers. Julia and Mary.
They were born in Rotesch before world war one. The area where they were born was part of Austria, Hungry and after world war that area was given to Romania.
My father and sister Julia came to the United States and married. They stayed here and raised famlies.
Brother John was killed in Romania during world war one.
Sister Mary came to the united states but went back when John was killed. With a new born girl. We have been in contact with her and family.

She lived in San Antonio, TX.
Maybe the Bexar County historical society can help you with that.
My grandmother used to see her frequently in her old neighborhood on Mistletoe Street. She was very unpretentious and you would never guess that she had been a really tremendous movie star in the Silent Film era.

My mother's maiden name is Cheryl Edith Bara. Her brothers are Clayton Bara & Darren Bara. Her sisters are Debra Bara & Corrine Bara. Grandfather's name was Edwin Bara, and Grandmother's name was Edith Bara (don't know her maiden name).

I can't seem to go back any further.

I was very interested in the email message that was posted on the Mary Bara message board as my husband is a direct desendent of Mary and August Bara. They were his grandparents but he really never got to know them. August did come to Canada from Chile and Mary was from Chilliwack B.C. She died
in September 1926 of Uterin cancer she was only 34 years old. We have her registrationof death and under racial origin its she was Indian & American. They resided in Ashcroft B.C. and many of their children (they had 12) are barried there. Mary & August's children were Henry, Fred, August, Joe, Walter, Frank, Pete, Sarah, Minnie, Jessie, Margaret and Rosa (which is my husbands mother). We also have a copy of August and Mary's marriage resistration, they were married Dec.7, 1910. August was 20 years old and Mary was 22, they were married in Ashcroft B.C. and he was a rancher. If you have anymore information on Mary or August I would love to here from you. Many thanks for the info you have already given!

It's sounds pretty likely, though. My mother was just telling me a few weeks ago about some Bara family she had that lived in NYC then moved to California!
