John W Barb, farmer and stock-grower, Mapletown, Penna, was born in Monongalia county, West Virginia, July 8, 1854. His parents, Gideon Barb and Sarah Webb Barb, were natives of Old Virginia, and of German descent. In early life his father was a farmer. He subsequently became a manufacturer of boots and shoes, and came to Mapletown in 1866 where he engaged n that business until his death in 1875.
John W Barb is the eleventh in a family of twelve children. He was reared in Mapletown, and attended the district school. He has followed farming as his occupation, and is the owner of a farm of 100 acres in Monongahela township, Greene county, Penna, where he resides.
Mr Barb was united in marriage in 1876 with Louisa E Mestrezat, daughter of Alexander Mestrezat and Maria Debolt Mestrezat, who were of French descent. Mr and Mrs Barb’s children are: Lillian Barb; Minnie Barb; Charles A Barb; Lamar Barb; and William Barb. Mr Barb is a Democrat. His wife is a zealous member of the Baptist Church.
