Barbara surname, Malta/Tunisia

Hello, my great-grandfather was from Malta. His name was Oscar Barbara. His father was Ercole/Hercules Barbara. He was Maltese, but born in Sfax, Tunisia - where the family owned an olive oil business. I have a bit of info on the Barbara family, but was curious if anyone had any more info to share. I have a lot of names and marriage dates, but not many birthdates/birth-places, and no death dates.
Thanks!

My great grandpa was Gaspare (changed to Jasper) La Barbera. Later he dropped the "La" when he moved to Detroit. His siblings were: Vita, Vincenza, Maria, and a brother possibly named Vito. His mother was Guiditta (changed to Judith) and his father was Albert. His father I think stayed in Sicily, I'm not sure because Judith and Albert were separated. There was some kind of scandal there.

I've heard from my grandma that the name La Barbera has French origins. Has anyone ever heard that?

HI Michelle
Lets see what I can remember or know. My father's family was for Nado, Sicily. Lots of Barbaras are still there. My parents went over there 15 years ago to a family wedding. My cousin married a Professor from the University of Milan from what my mother told me fabulous wedding.
Several of the cousins from Sicily did move here 20 years ago. John Barbara moved to Oakland and opened up Hair Salons and was very successful.

My dads family did all come from Brooklyn some stayed but most of his brothers moved away. We moved to Miami Fl when I was a year old (50 years) All of my Aunts and Uncles have pasted away. Father included. I haven't been intouch with any other cousins for years. Not too sure where they all are. I have a brother named Robert. Isn't if funny you mentioned a Roberta. He still lives in Florida and now live in Atlanta.
So that is it. If you find any connections do let me know. My dad always said that whatever Barbara's were in the the US we would all be connected.
Tricia
Anna Barbara in Erie PA and New York City

I am having a very difficult time finding information about my grandmother, Anna Barbara, who was born in 1893. I do not know the names of her Italian parents or where she was born. She and her sister Nancy and brother Joseph did live with their parents in Erie, PA for a while. Later, all three children were placed in orphanages in the area. At age 16, Anna was picked up by relatives on her mother’s side of the family and brought to New York City. I am told that some of her Barbara relatives lived in Brooklyn, in Binghamton, and in Susquehanna, PA. Anna married Michele/Michael DeRosa in New York City.

If anyone has any information about Anna and her family, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Catherine Teufel O'Neill
Anna Barbara

I'm looking for information about my ancestor Anna Barbara. She was married to Hans Mattheis Heil (B before 1645 Graben Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Baden). I descend from their son Reinhard Renninger (13 Mar 1663/4 Graben Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Baden
D 8 Aug 1706 Graben Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Baden
M circa 1699 Graben Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Baden). According to what I have found they died when Reinhard and his sister were very young, so they were raised by their godparents and took on their last name. That's all the information I have on them. Anything else anyone could provide would be great.

Thx for the reply. Joseph was probably a cousin to the grandfather Frank et al... They came from Castellamare and settled to the lower East side. I don't recall the name Eleanor as a cousin say perhaps of my mother in law, Pauline. I am sure there is some connection but unfortunately not too much reference material left to confirm. I have searched on the manifest coming into country as to who they were goung to stay with and put some people together that way... Thx again

Hi Fran: first off, send regards to Mom and sisters...How is your Mom doing? As far as Barbara info, Josephine Sparacio Senger, daughter of Josie (Uncle Nino's sister), has alot of info. She prepared a photo calendar years ago and has gathered alot of info. She can help more than I can. Pauline has Alzheimers and not much info from her at all. Josephine Senger lives on Giffords Lane in Staten Island and I believe she is listed. Let me know if you are not able to reach her. She has alot of photos too. She is also still in contact with Freddie and I am sure Josie has some info. Also, Josie Gervasi Paolercio from 112 Weed Ave should have some info too...Keep me posted and if you wish, you can email me directly as opposed to message boards...aliciagalante@att.net, Regards, Alicia

So to give them a book that is of both sides I have been going crazy. When I started my Aunt Sue was still alive. There were stories thatI wish I would have put on tape. My Mom just cane with Phyllis I will write later.

So Fran: I guess I am wondering why the Barbara Family info is needed for your composite? Other than Aunt Sue being your blood relative??? I am assuming this is Fran from Mill Rd. sister Phylis and Barbara??? I am Pauline Galante's daughter in law, married to Carlo Galante. I am also from the neighborhood, maiden is Madia...known you and sisters from the year 1962...Cuba Ave. The birds...I remember your Dad's birds and your swimming pool... So confirm the connection and I'll see what can be gathered. We reside in Florida...Regards, Alicia Madia Galante

Hi Salvatore, my grandfather's niece was a Barbera who married and lived in Brooklyn NY. Ironically, my mother's sister (also a Barbera) married one of the children of this lady and they live in Boston. She had a number of sons and one daughter. Could you be related? The man who my grandfather's niece married was a Salvato (last name) I don't know if there is a connection. Do you know the names of your relatives?
