Albert J. Barbato, age 88,
passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge.
He was born on May 22, 1923,
a son to the late John and Agatha DiPelino Barbato. Albert (Al) was a 1942 graduate of Erie Tech High School, and was employed by Zurn Industries from 1942 to 1985. He started as a pattern maker and retired as Manager of Sales, Cast Metals Operations. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament church and enjoyed playing golf and wintering in Florida. He could usually be found in his workshop where he enjoyed woodworking, making toys and gifts for his grandchildren and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Pat Barbato. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Carmen (Carmie Cuzzola) Barbato, two sons, Rick Barbato, wife Terry, of Erie, and Ron Barbato, wife Karen, of Danville, Ky., three brothers, Nick Barbato, Fred Barbato and John (Chick) Barbato, five grandchildren, Nic, Dan, Kara, Hayley and Kelsey Barbato, along with many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes and Crematory, LLP, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1626 West 26th Street, at 10:00 a.m. Private entombment will be in Calvary cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 130 West 8th St. Erie, PA 16501 or the American Heart Association, 823 Filmore Avenue, Erie, PA 16505.
