David Brian Barbe----Looking for family

My dad (David Brian Barbe) born in Toronto in 1946. His parents were John Barbe and Gladys Mccarthy (Barbe) of Toronto. David had a sister named Debbi. John Barbe had brothers/sisters but I only know of Roland/Roly and Gladys had a couple of sisters named Rainey (not sure of the spelling) and Joan.

I'm looking for anyone that has more information regarding my dad's family. My dad passed away back in 2001 and never really kept in touch with anyone in his family.

Here is a link (at bottom of pg.) I came across in the public Records, I also am looking for Charles Barbe, I am not positive on the spelling but I think it is Charles Robert Barbe, whom is beleived to have passed away around age 45...? He would have been my Paternal Grandfather, but My Dad was adopted by a different guy, so I don't know all the details for sure, I am looking for relatives for family info. it would be cool if we were looking for the same guy, although it doesn't really sound like it :) Anyways I am not sure if this is the right guy you are looking for I just noticed he had an Address in Sun Valley & I remembered it when I saw your post, here is the link (it's a long one), I wish you luck in finding him! >>>>'http://www.public-records-now.com/Search/SearchResults.aspx?...;;;;;;

Delphine BARBE (m. 1897, Cantly Quebec) versus parents married 1792 ?

Hi Liliane !

I'm looking for information on Delphine BARBE married to Joseph CONSTANTINEAU in 1897 in Cantly, Quebec. In the parish register, her father is listed as Francois BARBE (deceased) and her mother as Marguerite LEBLANC. A witness is Charles PICHE, listed as her maternal uncle. It is believed that Marguerite Leblanc was Delphine stepmother and not her natural mother. Delphine had native roots (Algonkin indian ??) and she was in her early teens when she married. It is believed that she might have had cousins with the surname Miller or Millaire.

The Francois Barbe and Marguerite Leblanc couple that you mention in your 2002-09-10 posting were married on 1792-02-07 which would mean that they would have been married 105 years when Delphine married in 1897. There is a generation link missing here.

Please let me know if you have any more information. It was greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Andre F.
The dates are right. I have found so little so far, having just started, on the Barbe surname, that I really feel this is a connection. I would love to have what info you have concerning Phillip Barbe and his forebears. Phillip Barbe is my great grandfather. My grandmother, Maude Roberta Barbe was born in Lewis County on 4-7-82. Phillip married "Fernandeze" (I really doubt the spelling, but that is what I was given) Pritt. I have a daughter living in WV now and in the spring she is going to do some heavy researching for me and maybe we can prove the link. Appreciate your help. My email is annab@airmail.net. If you will send me your email address, if and when I find out whether we are "cousins" I will let you know.

We have been perusing your message and wonder if you are aware of the Barbe Family Genealogy done by Waverly Barbe of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and distributed in about 1980? Our forefather was Jacob Barbe as well, and was found to have been French as Germany and France were at war at that time and the land passed back and forth between them.
Both spellings BARB and BARBE (which is French) are used synonymously in this anthology. In New orleans they even have families who use the accent yet over the "e".
Possibly you could find this book in a genealogical library or on the internet in bookstore areas.
You would probably find yourself in it.
For any further info, just holler.
Dick and Carol Barbe Loudon, Tn.

Is Barbe related to Barbee? ~ DNA Project

Hi,

Most of the Barbee families in the U.S. seem to connect to two that arrived in Virginia in the mid-1600s. There are theories that they were originally French Huegonots who may have gone to England on the way to the U.S. One researcher says that the original name was de la Barbe.

To try to sort some of this out, we recently started a DNA study which has shown that the original 2 U.S. Barbee's are from completely different lineages (perhaps from different countries). So far we have tested only Barbee's, but we welcome Barbe, Barby, Barbey or other variations. That could give all of us clues on our family origins. We are currently searching for persons with those spelling variations in England and France, but anyone is welcome to join.

For further information please email me or visit our web site:
http://members.aol.com/BarbeeJK/DNA/

Does anyone know the origin of the Barbe name?

Janet Barbee

Ancestory info on Delphine (Josephine) BARBE b.1881 m. Joseph CONSTANTINEAU

I am seeking ancestory info on my great grandmother, Delphine Barbe. She was born in 1881 and died in 1949 buried in St. Pierre-de-Wakefield, Quebec. To all, she was known as Delphine but it is to my understanding the records show as Josephine Barbe (probably the church imposed this name to her). She indeed was married to Joseph Constantineau in Cantley, Quebec. Delphine was daughter of François Barbe and Marguerite Leblanc (both buried in the same cemetary as Delphine, according to family stories). Delphine's parents were apparently married in Hull, Quebec (date uncertain). Also, Delphine was half indian native for it would be her mother that was true indian (from which 'band' it is still to me unknown). I wish to know any pertinent info of Delphine's roots and did she have siblings, ie: Pascal, François any sisters? Is it possible that the 'Barbe' were Acadians (from the New Brunswick or surroundings) and that Marguerite was from a tribe from there, maybe moved to Outaouais area for work and then got religiously married?

Dear Henry:
Barbe' is a common name from France. I am a
native of New Orleans, LA. I have a brother and a
father (deceit) who are both named Henry J.
Barbe'. I have traced my Barbe' roots back
to when they arrived from France to New Orleans
in the late 1840s or early 1850s. I did this by
searching the U.S. census record, death record, birth
records, and death notices. I have not
found the ship they arrived on. I believe that
my ancestor, Adrien Barbe', came to this country
alone. But he was followed by at least one brother,
Auguste Barbe'. I have found the ship he came
on (alone). If your family is from New Orleans,
I would be happy to share the information I have.
I do not have any information about the Barbe'
family in France.
Good luck,
Donald E.
Native family lore in Barbe family

I too am looking for the native part of the Barbe family.
All I know about my ancestor is that her name was Louise
Barbe and that she most probably WAS native. I am told
that she is famous in Quebec for her basket weaving.
If you come up with any thing on this aspect of the Barbe family
please contact me at: suemontigny@hotmail.com
