The Barbee Surname DNA Project is beginning to get some interesting results. The following family lines share a common ancestor:
Elzey Barbee (1797 - 1870/1880)
John “Smith” Barbee (1838 - 1937)
Hilary W. Barbee (b. 1817)
Haws Barbee (1775 - 1860)
Matthew Barbee (1780/90 - 1834)
This appears to be a completely different Barbee line but should probably be verified by testing a second descendant:
Elijah Barbee (1801 - 1877)
After we get results back on the Andrew and William Barbee lines, hopefully we will have a better idea how the five related families are connected. If anyone has any ideas how they connect, please let me know.
I am happy with the results we are getting -- we are identifying relationships and ruling out other relationships. Additionally, slight variations in DNA are showing up which may help us sort out connections.
Take a look at the following pages for the results and status of the project:http://members.aol.com/BarbeeJK/DNA/Results.htmhttp://members.aol.com/BarbeeJK/DNA/Members.htmhttp://members.aol.com/BarbeeJK/DNA/News.htm
The News page is updated frequently as new members join and tests are sent to the lab.

If you are stumped on your family line, please join us in this exciting ground-breaking research!
And if you are descended from the early William or Andrew Barbee lines, the rest of us really need you to participate. If the cost is holding you back, there are people willing to help pay.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
