Surnames: Barber, Reynolds, Battey
Simeon Barber, son of Simeon and Catherine Moore Barber, died in Peru, NY in 1811, at the age of 23, of smallpox received through an attempted inoculation. His fiance, ostensibly a member of the family of Robert Battey, for whom he worked, was pregnant at the time. I beleive the baby was taken in by Robert Battey and named after his wife, Jemima Briggs, who died about the same time or shortly after. She then apparently was raised by Thomas Reynolds, of Easton, Washington Co. Does anybody have any idea who the fiance might have been?
