MUSCATINE, Iowa - Geraldine Barber, 81, of Muscatine, died Thursday, August 28, 2003, at Muscatine Care Center.
Graveside services will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Jeff Kellogg of the Seventh Day Adventist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tom Peters, Mike Peters, Larissa Andreas, Kerrie Peters, Troy Gardner, and Brian Colburn.
There will be no visitation and the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society or the Muscatine Adventist Christian School.
Mrs. Barber was born on February 22, 1922, in Muscatine, the daughter of Leo and Edith Stein Downham. Her mother died in childbirth and she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Richard and Bertha Stein. Her first marriage was to Carroll Smith. She later married William Barber.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She worked from Muscatine Overall Factory, Huttig Manufacturing, and Magnus Model Laundry.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Smith and his wife, Rose, of Palm Desert, California and Steven Collins and his wife, Ladonna, of Lexington, Ohio; four daughters, Jackie Carlson Peck and her husband, Sanford, of Buchanan, Michigan, Lanette Carlson Peters and her husband, John, of Letts, Colleen Carlson O'Connor and her husband, Tim, of Muscatine, and Vickie Carlson Colburn and her husband, Bruce, of Letts; 18 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Edith Foster Downham, and one brother, Robert Downham
