I have transcribed a copy of a pension application of my 4th g grandfather Pvt John Butler that stated that he enlisted in the new (re-formed) 2nd VA Regiment of the Continental Line in 1780, serving under Capt Thomas Barby, Col Haws and General Greene. I have not been able to find out anything about this Thomas Barby under Barby, Barbey or Barbee. Does anyone know anything about him? I am hoping that a knowledge of where he lived will help me identify where John Butler and his comrades initially lived.
