We now have 130 participants in the DNA Project, including one BARCLIFT who has a paper trail to the Perquimans Co, NC BARCLIFT line.

We need another participant to validate the true DNA "signature" for this line. We have DNA from several others with ancestry in NC - so far they are all BARTLETTs.

Please note my current email is:
jim4bartlett@verizon.net

Re: BARCLIFT DNA

The DNA Project now has over 115 participants. Through DNA results, we have established 14 different BARTLETT family lines who do not relate to each other in Colonial America; plus one BARTLEY line that descends from a BARTLETT line; one BARTLETT line that descends from a BERKLEY line; and a separate BARTLEY line. We also have DNA from a BARKLEY descendant. Several participants have found biological ancestors, when the DNA proved they didn't have an all male line back to the BARTLETT/BARTLEY/BERKLEY ancestor.

Our results are now posted at:

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/BARTLETTDNA/

Please be sure to click on the TABS and let the Family Tree DNA page load.

We would like very much to get 2-3 participants from the BARCLIFT line from Perquimans Co, NC. We have already established the BARTLETT lines from Dobbs Co, NC and from Warren Co, NC, and we'd like to see how the BARCLIFT line fits in. We have also established 5 different BARTLETT lines from New England families.

Please note my new email
Jim Bartlett jim4bartletts@verizon.net

I am trying to locate information regarding my Grandparents families. Hi Jennifer, your probably my cousin. If anyone has any information please Email me. Additionally, I beleive our family were slaves for the barclift family whose history indicated they are from the same area of North Carolina. Their original surname is Bartlet however it was changed to Barclift. Interesting enough they have slaves listed but not their names. talk to anyone soon.

Greetings all -- I have been researching the family off and on for the last 5 years or so, and have census records for much of our branch of the African-American/Native American(Cherokee) and mulatto branch of the Barclift/Barcliff/Barcliffe family. They are printed and at home presently, but if anyone is interested, I would be happy to share info. I have previously corresponded with Debbie, as well as others interested in the research. My grandfather, Edgar Winfield Barclift (also Barcliff and Barcliffe on some records) left Periquimans County, NC for Newark, NJ during the 1930's, where he lived with his sister Mary Armstrong for a few years before my grandmother came up from Ahoskie to join him. They both lived in Newark until their deaths in 1988 and 1998, respectively. As is often the case, the Barcliff name in all of its variations is many times inadvertantly misspelled by others, which causes me great consternation. I can post addional information tomorrow, and would be happy to correspond with anyone directly -- my email is barcliff@andromeda.rutgers.edu
Best,
Lori Barcliff Baptista

Jennifer, I am sure you know by now that Barclift
originated as Bartlett ans some changed to Barclift
and some kept the name of Bartlett. My group kept Bartlett. I have
done a great deal of gathering info. on both
Bartlett and Barclift. They first settled in
Perquimins and Camden Counties, N.C. Let me know
how far back you can go and I will help you,
if I can. I have researched only the whites
and not the black. There were many blacks that
took both the Barclift and Bartlett names.
Jack W Bartlett
