Bard: My g-g-grandfather was Charles (lewis louis) Bard b-in Germany, we think abt 1805. Need info on him. Where in Germany he was born and date; When he arrived in the US; parents names. Hope you can help. I have lots of info on the family in Fulton County but Charles appears to be abit of a mystery to the family line. Also neded is his burial place. His wife Susan is buried in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery but there is no marker for Charles. A search of his farm (still in the family) turns up no grave for him.

Re: Bard in AR/MS

I have a Narcissa Bard-Chapman, b.1826 who is living with her husband, John J. Chapman, b.1816 with their children in then Polk Co. Sulphur Springs Twp.,AR . This census is online. Just search for 1860 Polk Co. AR Census. I believe they're on page #6. There are many Bard family members in TN and MS too, in case you want to trace them back further. Most people who migrated to AR came from the NC, TN, and MS areas.

Today, Sulphur Springs Community still exists today, and is ocated in a rural area and apart of Montgomery Co., Arkansas, with the county seat being Mt. Ida, Arkansas. According to the 1860 Polk Co. Sulphur Springs Census, Sarah Harp, b. 1832 TN is also in the same household with her two young sons, James A. Harp, b. May of 1854 AR and Joseph William Harp, b. March 14, 1860 AR. There is no Mr. Harp husband/father listed. I was told for years that Mr. Harp had died. I've never found a Mr. Harp who would would fit into the family anywhere nor have I conclusively found Sarah's maiden name? I do have the spouses and children's names of both James and Will Harp, if you need that information too.

I am still looking and searching for Mr. Harp, and Sarah's maiden name. It is thought that Sarah's name is Cunningham, Bard or Chapman but I've found no conclusive evidence to support those claims. Should you find a Sarah Bard b. 1832 TN, in your search of the Bard family, please contact me with that information at:loriharplizotte@excite.com . I hope I've been a help to you with your search.

Sincerely,
Lori Harp-Lizotte
Montgomery Co., AR

Eva:

Thank you for your response! It sounds as if we have a lot of the same points of reference for our Bard family & that could well be an indication that there's a connection. I look forward to hearing what your dad might have to say. I know so very little about Eva. She married John Lundberg, & I believe that happened here in the U.S. They settled 1st in Terry, SD, where John became partners in a gold mine. He did very well & made his fortune there. Eventually they moved to other places.

I look forward to keeping in touch! So good to hear from you.
Herbert Drakely Bard

I am researching the Drakely/Drakeley line and ran accross Professor Herbert Drakely Bard (b. abt 1869, New Hampshire). I believe him to be the son of George Ingersoll Bard and Jerusha Gould Parker. What I can not figure out is where he got the Drakely middle name. In my family line, Drakely shows up as middle name in the famale branches. I have yet to find this connection. My Drakely line came from Connecticut and I haven't found a connection there to the Bard family. I am hoping someone may know the connection.

Any help would be appreciated.

That the justifyable pride taken in narrating the share of the DE NORMANDIES in such a momentous movement has not obscured the author's discrimination, is evident in his discriptions of CALVIN and of the effects produced by his creed.

The book is printed on heavy, unbleached, deckle-edge paper, and bound in boards with buckram back, its exterior being in ideal keeping with the contents of dealing with families and persons of exceptional distinction.
=========================================================
http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.de-20-normandie/mb.ashx

Jacqueline Sleeper Russell
Website:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SRCH&amp...
Does anyone have information on Charles M. Bard?

He married Ruth Ann Green in 1837 in Cuyahoga, Ohio. Ruth Ann Green died in 1854. In 1856, a Charles M. Bard married Elisabeth E. Hills in Erie County, Ohio.

I believe these Charles M. Bards are the same.

Looking for any information. I am primarily researching the Hills line, who came to Erie County, OH from NY.

Thanks.
Carol

Archibald BEARD (BARD) d. 1767 Immigrated to PA from Ireland Abt. 1740

My branch of the Bard family is searching for any information on the ancestors of Archibald BEARD (later BARD) who came over to America about 1740 from County Antrim, Ireland to Delaware, then soon moved to York County (now Adams County) Pennsylvania, and then settled in Franklin County Pennsylvania where this Bard family lived for several generations.

Archibald's father‘s name was David BEARD, and Archibald's grandfather‘s name was William BEARD, both of whom presumably lived in Ireland.

Archibald had three sons: Richard BARD, William BARD, and David BARD. Many of their descendants are well doucumented in a book titled: The Bard Family by G. O. Seilhamer (1908).

DNA research now (2007) shows matches to the BAIRD family as well, presumably through old world connections.

Richard BARD (mentioned above) and his wife Catharine Poe BARD were captured by Delaware Indians in 1758 and their infant son John BARD was brutally killed. Richard escaped and later ransomed his wife to freedom.

If you know which ship Archibald BEARD (BARD), his son Richard BARD & Richard's wife Catharine Poe BARD came over on, please reply and let us know.

If you can trace your lineage to any of these early pioneers, and/or if you want more information about the Bard Family book (now available inexpensively on CD-ROM), or if you want more info on our BARD Mailing List, or you want more info on our BARD surname FamilyTreeDNA Y study, or BARD Web site (www.surf.to/BARD), or our BARD query page, please reply.

My closest tie-in in the Bard Book is with Thomas Henderson BARD b.11FEB1882 m. Susan Phillips DYSART b.2DEC1886, mentioned on page 248.

My descendant line is:

William BEARD (Ireland)
David BEARD (Ireland)

Irish Immigrant ancestor arrived in USA about 1740:
Archibald BEARD (BARD)

Richard BARD b.8FEB1736 m. Catharine POE b 3JUN1737

Thomas BARD 2APR1769 m. Jane Cochran MCFARLAND b.17DEC1783

Richard BARD b.17FEB1806 m. Eliza Jane CARSON b.23MAR1816

Richard BARD b.31DEC1845 m. Ellen Bushnell MOREHEAD b.6NOV1847

Thomas Henderson BARD b.11FEB1882 m.Susan Phillips DYSART b.2DEC1886

Thomas Dysart BARD b.10JUL1910 m. Henrietta Ruth RAYMOND b.20SEP1920
Curtis BARD b.2SEP1944 m. Suzanne Frances SZYPAJLO b. 27SEP1947

If you show connections to any of the lines in the Bard Book descendant from Immigrant ancestor Archibald BEARD (BARD), let me know, because I can show you some very interesting sites that contain Bard family genealogy.

The Bard Book by G. O. Seilhamer was commissioned by Sen. Thomas Robert Bard.

Her parents' names were Robert BARD and Emma SCHULTZ, and that's all I know about them, except for an old photograph of Emma. My great-grandmother also had a brother, George Washington BARD, who was supposedly a New York City policeman.
If anyone has any suggestions or information, I'd appreciate any help.

I have Swedish ancestors (not Bard) but I have had very good luck with:
Augustana College, Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center, Rock Island, IL 61201-2206. The facility has most of the eary church records for Swedish families in the central USA. They will do research for a fee. Check out:
http://www.augustana.edu/administration/swenson
I have had "EXCELLENT" success with them put paid about $80.00 for the searches. My Great-Grandparents changed their names when they came to the USA. Swenson library was able to give me all the informatin on what their name was and when they lived in Sweden and what ship and date and where sailed from coming to the USA.

Hi Deborah; One of the children of William Riley and Eunice Burch that you listed was Joseph. Joseph married Sara Boze 28 July 1871, Miami Co. Ohio. One of their children listed is George. I have applied to LDS for a Genealogy Death Record for my George, and hope it comes back with the names of Joseph and Sara as his parents. That would then lead me to where you are now with William Riley and Eunice. It could be 2 - 6 weeks before I receive info back from LDS.

Bard b. 1881 in Kansas. Another daughter would be Madeline (Pansy??) b. 1904 in Hot Springs, ARK. But Eugene could be the son of a Bard from Ohio. Possibly Theron W. Bard?
I find Eugene W. Bard in the 1900 census for Garland County, ARK but by 1910 the two girls are living with their grandparents, Thomas J. & Edith Leonard.
Anyone have any information on these folks to help make the connection?

BARDs from Sweden -- Nebraska?

Hello:

Looking for BARDs from Sweden. My great-grandmother was EVA CHARLOTTA BARD, b. in Vaversunda, Sweden on 8/7/1879. Her parents were Karl Magnus Bard, b. 1833 in Granna, Sweden, & her mother, Anna Maria Persdotter, b. 1831 in Odeshog, Sweden.

There were at least 4 children in this family: Eva, Amanda Matilda, b. 8/3/1862, Emeli, b. 11/12/1864, & Carl August, b. 7/13/1867.

Eva immigrated to the US in 1890. Records show that she came alone. I have no information on this family, so I'm speculating, but her destination was Omaha, NE. There were maybe 4 male BARD heads of households in Nebraska circa 1890. I'm betting that one of them may have been related to Eva & that she came in via the east coast & to Nebraska, alone, because she was being met by family in the midwest.

Any Swedish BARD descendants, or BARDs who settled in Nebraska -- please contact me. I'd like to compare notes.

Thanks.

-- Linda Alexander
http://ww.lindajalexander.net

Vermont Bard Family

I have been researching the WEST family from northern Vermont. The family "tradition" is that an ancestor by the name of David B West b 24 January 1839 in Troy, Orleans County, VT was adopted. I recently found a reference that indicated his middle name was BARD. Now this is a real long shot, but could he have been adopted either officially or unofficially by the WEST family from the BARD family due to death, illness, hardship or whatever? Many BARD's and WEST's lived in and near the area at that time. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Samuel Bard of N.J. in 1787

Revolutionary War Property Confiscations
One of the ugliest things about Revolution is that it pits brother against brother. The victors, of course, get to write the histories. But the Revolution, far from being the sanitized “British vs. Americans” conflict taught in our schools, also pitted Americans against other Americans.

A list of the names of all those Persons whose property was Confiscated in the Several Counties of the State of New Jersey, for joining the Army of the King of Great Britain &c. as returned to the Auditors Office, previous to the first day of May 1787.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information, which comes from a webpage titled "Property Confiscations, Monmouth County." The link for the site is listed below.

Joyce

http://www.horsethief.info/newjersey/property.htm#Top

I saw your message and decided to add the following. C.O.Bard is infact Claud O. Bard b.Sep 1889 in Missouri, His mother was Mattie C. Bard b.12-21-1870 Illnois, d.2-11-1945 Calif. He had a brother Bonnie "Buck" Bard b.1891 in Missouri and a sister Frankie T. Bard b.Jan 1894 Missourri d.11-1-1934 in Joplin, Missouri. Frankie was married to my wife's grandfather Francis H. Smith in 1910. I have found only one weak reference to his father. It is possibly Max L. Bard, not sure. Hope this helps, Harold

Hello Linda,
How are you? I am the GGGgrandaughter of Honore Gradenigo born about 1799. Do you have info on his mother? Also, do you have info on his wife, Mary Chevis.? I'm wondering about the heritage of those two women. Most importantly, I'm trying to prove that Mary Chevis was actually the birth mother of Louis, who was the father of Odeccio Sr. Second marriages and the custom of naming children after their ancestors makes it difficult to verify things . Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. If I can help you in any way with your research, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks,
Margaret Espree
