Looking for information on Jacob Bardsley Halifax, Nova Scotia

I am looking for information on my great-great grandfather Jacob Bardsley. He was born Aug. 6, 1862 in Oldham, Lancashire, England. He immigrated to Canada in 1885 and married Charlotte McKenzie in Nova Scotia. His father's name may have been Hugh.

These are the children I know of: Mary, John, Charles, James, Hugh, Jacob, Donold and Harriet (my great-grandmother).

Sudden Death of Mrs. Bardsley.
Though having been ill for several weeks past and supposed to be recovering, the wife of Mr. George Bardsley, died suddenly on the afternoon of the 22d inst. After services by Father Hickey, largely attended at the Catholic church on the afternoon of the 23d. the remains were conveyed to the Catholic cemetery for interment. The deceased leaves her husband and seven children to mourn this sudden affliction.

My G.Uncle Thomas Bardsley died in mine 1914. He was married to Jane Ann Belshaw in Blairmore in 1904 and had one son John born 1908. He arrived in Canada in 1901 and was living in Frank at time of Slide. Does anyone know what happened to this family. May have gone to Calgary. Jane had a brother Thomas Gladstone Belshaw, who was killed at Ypres, 1917.

I am looking for any information on my ancestors.

Here is what little I know, I hope it helps.
James Bardsley and Sarah Bardsley both died in Maysville, KY in 1849 (Within a couple of days of each other, I believe of Cholera)
George W. Bardsley born in Louisville or Maysville, KY 2/22/1844
John C. Bardsley born about 1838
Agnes J. Bardsley born about 1840 either in Louisville or Maysville, KY.

The only census I find them in is 1850 and they were at that time Orphans living with a family with the name John Henry Wolf. After that I don't show them being in KY. I can follow George to Kansas and then to Colorado where he died in 1928. But I have completely lost his Brother (John) and Sister (Agnes).

I also really don't have anything on James and Sarah other than what is listed above. .

Any information would be appreciated.

Do any of these names ring any bells for anyone?

William Bardsley, b. 1835, England
Edward Bardsley, son, born 1864 in Pennsylvania

Edward married Jane-Ellen Whittle and they had these children, not in order: Hannah, Olive, Emma, Julia, Harry, Elmer, Breward.

Somewhere out there is a Bardsley who has done extensive research on this family. You came to a reunion in the early 1980s and brought old photographs. Sadly, I was not interested in my ancestry then!

I am descended from Hannah.

Hello, I am trying to find information about my great-grandmother, Eliza Butterworth (nee Bardsley). She was married to Samuel Butterworth in 1905 in Ashton Under Lyne, UK, and emigrated to Canada around 1910, and lived in Hamilton, ON. She and Samuel had two daughters, Doris and Vera(my grandmother). She was born around 1882-3 in Ashton and had a sister named Mary that lived in Ashton as well. My gggandfather was Henry Bardsley. Henry had several daughters with Jane Kenyon of Romiley. Henry's wife was Sarah Penney whom he also had children with. My ggrandmother was named Martha. Her siblings married a Bolton, Boon, Sykes and Higgenbotham.
Martha was married to Edwin Gee of Werneth. I would love to find more out about Martha and her sister's families!

JOSEPH BARDSLEY, contractor, Fairview, was born in Yorkshire, England, March 23, 1835, coming to America in 1862, and to Erie County in 1863. He is a son of Joseph and Sally (Whiteley) Bardsley, natives of Yorkshire, England, who had a family of four children -- John and Joseph surviving. Joseph, Sr., was a son of John Bardsley, also a native of Yorkshire, and both died in England. Our subject was educated for the ministry of the Church of England, at the Lyceum of Oldham, England, and holds certificates for proficiency in geometry, algebra, grammar, arithmetic and mensuration from the Mechanic's Institutes. The presentations were made by Lords Stanley, Disraeli and Brougham. He also holds a certificate for general knowledge from the Analytic Institute of Oldham. The late Prince Consort was President and Patron of the above Institute. Mr. Bardsley knows five languages. In 1862, he relinquished his position as teacher in the Greenacres Grammar School to come to this country. Mr. Bardsley married, in 1856, Mary Whiteley, born August 25, 1831, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Holmes) Whiteley, all natives of Yorkshire. Their children were William, James and Sarah, who all died in England. Mr. Bardsley visited his native land in 1864, returning to this country in 1867, and has since engaged in various pursuits in different localities. He settled in Fairview in 1871. Mrs. Bardsley died September 7, 1881. Mr. Bardsley is a member of the Royal Templars. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church. Politically, he is a Republican.

On the 1851 census for Dukinfield, Cheshire, England, my ggggrandmother, Sarah Whittaker, widow of Samual Whittaker, was living with the family of Joseph and Alice Bardsley. The Bardsley children were Joseph age 14, Sarah age 10, Luke age 5. I was wondering if anyone else was researching this family, and if they knew of a connection between the Whittakers and Bardsleys.

On the 1841 census, also for Dukinfield, they were neighbors.

Looking for anything on Ann Bardsley, born 1803 in England. She married John Dunkerley, children Squire, James, Daniel, William, John, Benjamin, Mary Ann (Molly) and Samuel were all born in Oldham, Eng. In 1846 Ann brought the children to Phila. No record of her husband, maybe he was already here. For anyone in Phila., my Mom's cousin Edwin Dunkerley has extensive research housed at the PA Historical Society (he died in 1983). I'm not sure if he had much on his grandmother's family, the Bardsleys. I haven't had a chance to go there but if anyone lives there it would be worth finding.

PHILADELPHIA, January 5, 1901- John Bardsley is dead of heart disease after an illness of ten days. Mr. Bardsley was born in England September 5, 1836 and came to this country with his parents in 1847, Mr. Bardsley engaged in manufacturing linens in this city.
As treasurer in 1880, he became involved in the failure of the Keystone National and Spring Garaden Banks. He was charged with embezzelment of $339,000, sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment and fined $237,530. He was pardoned in 1896.

at time of census. Godfrey Bardsley born 1862,
Hyde Cheshire, son Sydney born 1888 Ashton-U-
Lyne. Sydney was in the 1st world war, Canadian
Grenadier Guards Overseas Battalion "87th".
Correspondance shows Sydney married to May Briggs
as early as 1913. Letters at that time mailed
to Blackpool. Daughter Beatrice May Bardsley
born in Blackpool. Sydney and family immigrated

Bardsley married Florence Power and had my father in 1915.
