ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha h You will never be able to trace the Bardwell's back to the 1500's and no one is going to give you pictures.....of any significance. You are not bright enough to figure all this out. We have the books, you don't!

Deloris, she wouldn't know, she doesn't have the Bardwell Book. Only my brother and I do. There is no way she is intelligent enough to trace our family back to the 1500's as Book 2 does. She was probably stupid enough to belief the Fortuna Bardwell write up in the California 2000 book which was totally wrong. The woman must have been spinning on 2 wheels. I thought once or twice about sending in the correct account of the Bardwell's of England but simply do not want them to have it. They have stolen photos from my dad they were only meant to keep for safe keeping from my deranged picture cutting Mother.

This side of the family is stingey and would never share a photo with you, why share with them? Trust me I know these people!

Rebecca Smith

Rhonda a couple of years ago we exchanged emails and your Mother Phyllis remembered me. You gave me her phone number and we talked. You also sent me some old, old family pictures and wanted to know if I knew who they were. Did you ever find out who they were. Has your email changed? Would like to chat with you again.
I don't think it exhists any more. I wrote to Mass and to the Historical society and they sent me some info. It appears as iff they all died before any younger people joined. I did order an updated "Bardwell" book from the publisher. It seems as if you can send them updates and they collect them. When they print a book, they add that in. You can contact the publisher. We could probably start our own! Mary Lou Bordwell

My Grandfather is David "Doc" Bardwell as far as I know. I am unsure as it seems he was buried Feb 14th, 1934 as far as family legend goes. The day my father Lyle Rex Bardwell was born. My Grandmother was Mary Jane Smith, and it appears that she married her dead husband's brother (name unsure) after her husbands death. Then, she married a James Gorman, the man that I actually met and knew as Grandfather. I am thinking the Dan Bardwell you were in contact with is my cousin Dan. But, I am not sure. When he was 14 he shot and killed his father, my father's brother, Dean Bardwell. It was around Christmas Day in the late 1960's and many people in the family disconnected with him due to that incident. My father left on Christmas Eve for the funeral, from what I understand Dave was drunk and going to beat his wife and children agqain and Dan stopped him by shooting him once in the neck witha 22 rifle.

I have been doing a LOT of research today about the family, and have found a good sight (FREE) Family Search.org. It is through the LDS,and they are really into Geneology. I wil be on it tomorrow, also, and so I will do some checking for you aso, ok? I just found out my Grandfather had a second wife, and also about 3 kids that I never knew, so they must have passed on young. I got more information from any site I have ever been to, so I am going to work it for a while. I will let you know, or if you have any more questions, please feel free to write. Oh, yeah, I am trying to get on that TV show "Master Chef" and may be down in San Francsco for baout 6 weeks in December. maybe we can get together and share some notes?? Smiles.. IF I make it... Wish me luck. Until later, Dianne

Thank you so much Dianne for responding. Wow Alaska is quite a change from California, Mo. When you stated "Doc" Bardwell at first thought you were talking about Evertt Elton born in 1865 son of Simeon Mercy Bardwell. Do you have any information on Nancy Jane "Trent" Bardwell married to William S. They and all the family of course was born and raised there in Clarksburg and California. Do you have any information of Nancy Jane "Trent" Bardwell and her Mother Sarah Jane. I traced Sarah from an Edward David Schenewerk and just received a copy of their marriage certificate. It states her previous name as "Mrs" Sarah Jane Carsner. So she was married to unknown Carsner. So back to the drawing board for unknown Carsner. Have come to a block wall. Sadly same for my Faternal G Grandmother. I have copies of three old Bardwell pictures and don't know who they are. Very old ones. Could we exchange emails. I live in San Diego, Calif. Thanks Deloris

My name is Dianne Delane Bardwell, Father Lyle Rex Bardwell of Mercer Mo.,Mother Deborah Delane Bardwell. I had 3 brothers and 3 sisters, by my parents.(All of which live in California, except me, I live in Alaska) When Mom died 12/12/ 2003 in Ca. She had 26 gandchildren and 19 great grandchildren in CA. Dad had a sister Lucille, who passed at 42 from Breast Cancer, she was married and lived in Atchison KS. My uncles on Dad's side were Earnest Bardwell, Dean Bardwell(shot through the neck and died a few days before Christmas approx 45 years ago.)Dad's father was named David Bardwell, though he was called "Doc". Most of Dad's family live in Mercer Mo., although one brother James Daniel (JD Bardwell spent most of his life in Independance, Mo. There are a lot of pictures, and Dad still lives in Mercer, and from what I understand, Uncle Ernie (Earnest) is currently in a Nursing Home nearby Mercer. Please feel free to contact me for more information. Thanks, Dianne Bardwell

Hi mermerm

My mother descended from Robert Bardwell, as I did, and almost all the names you mentioned. I have the Bardwell books, as well as the two Cooley books, plus I have been researching mine and my wife's families for over 30 years.
I am also a Cooley descendant, from Ens. Benjamin Cooley. Lifetime member of the Cooley Genealogy group.
To the best of my knowledge, there has been no one step up to take over the Bardwell clan, after the death of Portia Chamberlain years ago.

If you need help, just ask.

Bob Vaughan, Clovis, CA
jandb41@sbcglobal.net

I never heard anything from anyone.

I am a Cooley descendent and am happy to have joined that name's organization. They are very active and have annual reunions and regularly published newsletters. I'd love to find out anything about a similar Bardwell organization.

I read somewhere that anyone named Bardwell, Bordwell, Birdwell and other spellings are all decended from Robert Bardwell. Have you heard that as well?
I do not recall a Johanna (Bardwell?); If I ever came across here, I was unable to connect her to the Jane Bardwell who was the 2nd wife of my Alanson Fuller.

Despite all of/any of the info I found over the years on Bardwells, none of it ever gave me what I wanted. In recent years the most new info I have found on Bardwells of Tioga and Bradford Cos. Pa. and some from lower NY came from notes of the Fuller-Bardwell family reunions which were held for several years. I was able to pull names and connect some of them and some I am in doubt about, especially some David Bardwells.

But none of them ever solved the Bardwell line. I had, while working on these notes, thought about trying to track down descendants who might have family history but: other things got in the way and I forgot about it until now.

Anyway, if you want to check out those Fuller-Bardwell family reunion notes, they are now on Joyce Tice's
Tri-Counties web-site. Maybe some of those names you are searching for will pop up? They do, for every reunion, list marriages, births, deaths, etc.

The Bardwell name caught my eye because Oscar & Nancy were living next to Benjamin Wheaton. I believe this Benjamin is the brother of Laura Wheaton. She gave birth to a child [Sarah Root Bardwell] and according to the baptismal record, Sarah's father was Elihu Bardwell. No evidence that Elihu and Laura married; she did marry a George Mills and lived in Chenango County, NY. Maybe just a coincidence, but sometimes following through on coincidence pans out. I believe Elihu was the son of Soloman Bardwell/Bordwell and Sarah Root.

David Bardwell, b. 1815, New York

Can anyone tell me if David Bardwell, born ca 1814 in PA had a sister Jane born 1816, PA? Jane was married, as second wife, to my ancestor, Alanson Fuller and may or may not have been mother to my Lydia Fuller. ( I do not have dates needed to know for sure when Alanson and Jane married or when an unknown first wife died.) I have never been able to find parents on Jane; what I have found was on cemetery and census info.

I began this current attempt to solve “my” Bardwell line again, because I have been working with notes taken on Fuller family reunions from 1904 – 1922. In 1906 among those present was: “David Bardwell & wife”.... The only one found in the right location, on census, was a David C. Bardwell, born abt 1847/8 in PA with a wife Maria R.; children found so far: Francis H. born 1874; Fannie L. 1876 who md. Asa Yaw; and John C. Bardwell born Aug 1879.

If my tracking is correct, , David C. was born to a David Bardwell born 1814 and wife Louisa born 1815. So: Did this David Bardwell born 1814 have a sister Jane? . In years past I have read whatever was published on Bardwell family, but never found a Jane. There have been theories offered to me from previous queries as to who Jane’s parents were or were not, but ... nothing positive was ever found one way or the other.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. Since I posted this query several months ago I have found a lot more information on Risphia Miller. To clarify my original post, I was not trying to trace the Bardwell line...I have read the Descendants of Robert Bardwell and James Crafts' History of Whatley and have my Bardwell line confidently back to Robert. None of those sources, however, say anything more about Risphia Miller other than her name and date of birth (which is wrong in Crafts' book). For completeness, here is what I know:

George W. Bardwell, son of William and Hannah (Davis) was born on 22 Sept 1832 in Whatley, MA. He married Risphia Miller on 6 Sep 1853 in Hopkinton, MA. He died from wounds sustained at the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia on 10 May 1864.

I wrote to the National Archives in Washington, DC and from Risphia's Civil War Pension file was able to find her death date and location (26 Dec 1903 in Belchertown, MA). From that, I was able to find her death certificate and answer a lot of the questions. I now know that she was born on 22 Jun 1829 in Bangor, ME. Her parents were Jude Miller and Lydia Frazier. Before she married George she was married to a man named Drouer and had 1 child. After George died, she married Willard Belding. She is buried in Rural Cemetery in Belchertown, MA along with her 3rd husband Willard M. Belding and her unmarried son from that marriage, Willard H.V. Belding. My mother has been to the cemetery and photographed the stone.

Now I'm looking for information on Jude and Lydia (Frazier) Miller. A Jude Miller shows up in the 1830 census in Hermon, ME, but that's all I've found so far.

Thanks,
Ed
