I hope your posting was meant for me. But if not, would you mind sharing information you have? I am looking for Minnie B. that married an Adkins. Had 1 son William H. He was born allegedly 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico supposedly on reservation. They were Cherokee. I have found 2 different years for my grandfather's birth and know he was orphaned at age 11 then ended up in Arkansas. It would mean a lot to me as I know there are more than 1 Barefoot families.
Help from anybody anywhere is greatly appreciated.

I hope this reaches you. I have traced our Barefoots back to John Barefoot who died in Texas about 1846. My line is through John's oldest son who was Isaac's brother. I have been trying to track the Wentworths, but got lost in North Dakota.

The only name my dad says grandpa mentioned was a Charlie. But he didn't say if Charlie was his father or grandfather. But my grandfather is listed on a census as Cherokee but not on any rolls. There is a Charlie Adkins that filed an application in 1886. But that's the closest I have come to anything. There are so many out there.
Thanks for getting back with me. If you should find anything else please feel free to send it.

silverstar47512@yahoo.com

i have nor found any connection between the two but i did find a minnie barefoot in North Carolina i dont know if that is her though i am trying to prove that Aaron Barefoot was indian i only have his birth record and it does not state what his race was. I do know he was indian because i have pictures of my grandmother who was half indian. They are not on the Baker Roll any barefoots so its hard to prove. let me know if this helps or if you find anything else out about the indian side
I'm also related to the Barefoots. My name is David of Texas. One of George's children was Franklin Hilliard Barefoot. His daughter Matilda Wright Barefoot married my great uncle Mose Moran Mercer. My ggrandfather Dennis or Jennis Mercer married her cousin Jane Barefoot. I'm trying to trace the Choctaw or Cherokee blood on the Barefoot side of the family. O yes my ggrandmother was born about 1855 in Pike County Alabama she married my ggrandfather in Louisianna. They later moved to Texas. Their children included my grandfather Aron Mercer, Sarah she was deaf and dumb, Robert Mercer, and John Mercer. Please let me know anything you have. It was reported that Geprge Washington Barefoot was Choctaw. I'm trying to affilate with the tribe.

Hi Matt,

My grandmother was a Barefoot. She was born at Hickory, OK. The family moved to McClain County, OK when she was a girl. She is deceased. She had lots of red hair and taught school. My mother has black hair. It seems the red hair came through the men.
Some of the names of family members are:Marvin, John Wiley, Pearl, Sinnette, Vivian, Carmen, Antoinette, Hall Hearn, Boyd, were all Barefoot by birth. I am in OK.

It is possible that Barefoot was her married name. I dunno I only know she was related to my grandfather William Henry Adkins that was born on a reservation 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico but I can't find any record of him until he was married in a 1930 Census. There was a record of an orphan boy age 11-12 and that would have been the time my grandfather's parents died apparently. Then he got to Arkansas somehow. I was told he lived with an Uncle Bill but not knowing if it was Minnie's brother or her husbands brother. I'm not even sure of her husband's name. My grandfather didn't speak of his past or his life growing up. I understand that was common among Native Americans.
Any help would sure be great even if it turns out to be wrong. My head is getting sore from beating it against the walls out of frustration lol

Thank you for writing and please do keep in touch.
silverstar47512@yahoo.com

I was told there were no princess's but she would have been related to my grandfather and he was born on a reservation 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. He was an only child. I was told Minnie was his mother. And her father I was told by my aunt was a sub-chief. I only used the Princess part cuz that's what my aunt told me.
But I was informed by other Native Americans that there were no princess's. But I'm glad somebody finally got in touch with me. I been beating my head against the wall. lol
My grandfather was William Henry Adkins he was orphaned at age 11 or 12. I've been trying desperately to locate info on him but they weren't registered. And I was told the only place I could find records is at one of the ArchDiocses in Texas but I have no clue what part he was in. I sure do need help on this and if you are connected that would be awesome. I'm assuming she had siblings. But she married a white man. Thanks for writing to me it sure means a lot.

I will have to check out the minnie barefoot in NC thanks for the tip. My grandfather was listed as Indian on the census's try looking there. He is listed as Cherokee. I have discovered a lot of the native americans were classified as white and also some as black and mulatto that is the mixed. You can't keep looking for just the native american one that is probably why you aren't finding anything. My grandfather on the other places are listed as white only that one listed as Cherokee. They told people they were white to avoid persecution from others. So try looking just for the name and dates and location cuz if you put in too much info it will tell you that there was nothing found. Try different spellings of names also. Hope this helps some

It could be the same person I dunno. Where was your Minerva Barefoot born? My dad she was from KY. But who knows they don't remember much as they are in their 70s and 80s.
I would like to see a picture of her too. Do you have one? I don't and I'm not sure my family does either. If they do it's buried in a lot of God knows what in their house. Or maybe they disposed of it I have no clue.

I was away from my family due to adoption for over 40 years but if I had been kept I would have all that stuff now. Thank you for contacting me and please keep in touch. I look forward to knowing more.

My grandfather's parents died when he was 11 yrs. old and went to live with an Uncle Bill possibly in Arkansas, so I'm told but I have figured out he left the reservation with another young man Bert B Bedford and they both came to Indiana so it could be his Uncle Bill may have been a brother to Minnie, or could have been a brother to her spouse. This is unknown but assuming he was born in 1895 this would have been in 1906/1907. I am told any records after 1906 would be at the ArchDioces in Texas just unknown which county as there are a lot of them. Maybe they can assist you also. Please keep me up on what you find and I will let you know also. Thanks again

Do you recall her married name? My great-grandfather's name was Atkins/Adkins (sp was changed) so my Minnie Bearfoot married into the Atkins/Adkins family. They only had one child Wiliam H born 1882-1895 most records found had different year of birth on them. My grandfather (I believe) is listed as an orphan on one of the census's in the early 1900s. My Adkins Family Tree is public if you care to check it out. Please feel free. I still have a lot of work to do on it but the Adkins line is as complete as I can get at this point in time. I am still searching. Or keep checking back. If you have any info you think would be beneficial or you would like to share please let me know. Seems we both need the help. Keep in touch.
