Does anyone have any info on the line of Indian Barefoots from Robeson Co. NC. Looking for the father of Albert Barefoot. He is listed on the birth record of John D Barefoot Sr. born 1907, as father, Mary Edwards born 1891, is listed as mother. John is listed as Indian, Native American. Mary Barefoot, and John D Barefoot are listed in the 1910 census living in Goldboro, Wayne NC, with a Mary Barefoot born 1849. They are listed as white here. Later John D is listed as Indian again in the 1940 census living in South Carolina.

CORRECTION TO PREVIOUS POST:
I incorrectly listed John Barefoot as born in 1869-should be 1769. He was the son of Jeptha Sr. of Edgecomb Co NC born abt 1736. Jeptha Sr. was the brother of Noah of Johnston Co NC, and John of Wayne Co. NC.

John Barefoot, born 1802 in Edgecomb Co., NC moved to Alabama and is recorded there in the 1830 census record for Monroe Co. He married Barcena Winters and had a daughter then they moved to Titus TX., where they show up in census records in Tx from that point on. If you do a search for him on Ancestry you will find his line is well documented. He was the son of John born in 1869, who was the son of Jeptha Sr. of Edgecomb Co., NC.

Ok. Sounds good. If you want to ask any questions, let me know. You can write an email to gingerycat@gmail.com.
There is another older book about more specific Barefoot lines -
Barefoot-Withrow Families by Anne and Vivian Daughtery, I think it was in 1986. But it's long been out of print.

BarbaraVivian

I believe I have found a connection through an initial match through George Arthur Barefoot, but I am still trying to recreate the tree some so that I can link them together to see how it fits together.

I am also catching up on some college homework I got behind on from being sick. Give me a week and I will be able to say for sure how the trees match and be able to see if this is a direct match to my DNA match's or just a start in the connection.

Thank you.

Jessica

Yes, the Barefoot families of Texas can ultimately be traced back to North Carolina and further back to Pennsylvania. But that's about 2-300 years ago. You might find it more helpful if you could provide any kind of name and geographical location and time period. The Barefoots are many and far-flung. There is a good book about the Barefoot line called:
Barefoot Families Of The South by Sue Cannady Barefoot of North Carolina, published in 2005. Check the internet for places that might have it for sale, or ask your local library or Family History Center if they might have copy or obtain one through an interlibrary loan. Good luck

I am an adoptee trying to search for my heritage using DNA.

I have a 3rd Cousin match to a Smith who is closely related to the Barefoot family in Johnston, North Carolina (Nathan T Barefoot and family).

I have recently found another shared segment of DNA with 5 other's and found that one had a mother with the maiden name Barefoot, but they appeared to be from Texas for several generations.

I was wondering if there is a line somewhere that connects the Johnston, North Carolina Barefoot's to Texas?

Also, does anyone know of any autosomal projects for the Johnston, NC area or the Barefoot's?

I have also had some matches with Peacock and McLamb, which appear to be from Johnston also, although much further back.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jessica

Mr. Barefoot, 1765 - Boston area?

Date: Monday, May 6, 1765
Paper: Boston Post-Boy (Boston, MA)
Issue: 403
Page: 2

Bristol, Feb. 23. One night last week the following accident happened at Bruton, in the county of Somerset. Mr. Barefoot, an eminent Chandler and Soapboiler, returning home from an inn in that town, accidentally fell into the river and was drowned: he was found the next morning standing on his feet in water, with his hat and wig on, (the water being up to his breast) and holding the rushes on shore with both his hands. He had upwards of ten guineas in his pocket , and a watch. He went from the inn at eleven o'clock, and his watch stood at just a quarter after eleven.
Barefoot Family of Johnston NC (Nathan Barefoot m Lina Peacock)

I was born in Fayetteville, NC in 1975 and put up for adoption. I am currently using DNA to try and figure out my maternal family tree.

I have a 4th cousin match who I am working with who has shared their tree with me and we both share an overlapping segment with a grandson of Nathan T Barefoot and Lina Peacock.

From what I can tell this family appears to have stayed in the same area along with the Tart, Peacock, and McLamb families.

I am trying to create a tree for this family so that I can try and find a common ancestor with my 4th Cousin match and was wondering if there are any well documented compilations of this family that I may be able to get ahold of.

I have started a tree, but there seems to be a few areas already with a lot of conflicting information.

Most of my other match's family has stuck pretty much around the Louisiana area with names like Hutchinson, Jones, Shirey, George, not name a few off the top of my head.

So on top of wondering if there is a compilation of this NC family I would also be interested to know if any of this branch split off to Louisiana.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may contact me over Ancestry or through my email account at jjfester@gmail.com.

Jessica

BAREFOOT, of Chickasha, was one of the old-time ranch men of the Southwestern trails, one of the more permanent cattlemen of the Indian Territory, and at a still later period in his stirring life a large property owner and developer of that town. He is not only extensively interested in its residence property, but in the Oklahoma State Bank, of which he is the vice president and with whose predecessor (the Chickasha Trust Company) he was prominently identified from its organization. Mr. Barefoot was born in Fayettville, Arkansas, on the 10th of February, 1849. About nine years before this event his father had brought the family from Missouri and in 1859 made another move from Arkansas to Grayson county, Texas. Here he engaged in farming and the cattle business, and furnished his son, George W., with his first real experience in these occupations. The boy developed into a strong and thrifty youth on the Texas frontier, but the primitive conditions of his mental training are well illustrated by the shifts to which he was put to obtain his first slate and pencil-digging the raw material himself from a neighboring slate quarry. Thus armed, he learned to write and "cipher," and at the age

-197-

sixteen began the actualities of life on the range, with J. C. Latimer, who was one of the pioneer cattlemen of Montague county, Texas. His first service on the trail was incurred in 1867, when he drove cattle across the Indian Territory on the Shawnee trail instead of the more frequented Chisholm route, then particularly threatened by the hostile Osages. He afterward made other trips across the territory to Hunnewell and Baxter Springs, Kansas, and even exposed himself to the fierce onsets of the Comanches in the interests of his employes. He thus acquired the courage and experience to engage successfully in the business himself. From 1878 to 1885 Messrs. Barefoot and Bryant ranched an the extent of country from Henrietta, Clay county, to Wichita Falls, Wichita county, Texas, and during a portion of this period had cattle on Cache creek, in the Comanche country, Indian Territory. During this era their output was extensive, as many as ten thousand head being marketed from their stock annually. They also owned a ranch in the Chickasaw Nation opposite Red River station, and they fed extensively at Gainesville, Clarksville, Denison and Whitewright, Texas, shipping the cattle to St. Louis and Kansas City. Later, Mr. Barefoot himself established feeding quarters at Purcell, having individual cattle interests in the Chickasaw Nation. Eventually he closed out this ranch and all similar interests. He then came to Chickasha, purchased a tract of land south of the place, and, after perfecting his title to it, platted it as the Rock Island addition to the town. After readily disposing of this piece of thirty acres, he bought other property in Chickasha, some of which he has sold and pieces of which he has improved and still handles as landlord. He is one of the large owners of residence property in the city, and his holdings mark him as one of her most substantial citizens. In 1904, when the Chickasha Trust Company was organized he was elected an officer, and in 1908, when it was merged into the Oklahoma State Bank, he was continued on the directorate and chosen vice-president.
Daniel Barefoot, the father was born in Kentucky about 1811, and was one of two sons, his father dying when the children were very young. As a single man he went to Ripley county, Missouri, and afterward to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he married Malinda Stone, who died in Montague, Texas, in 1881, fourteen years prior to his own demise at the same place. In 1867 the father had brought his family to Texas, establishing them in Grayson county, where he was a modest farmer and cattleman.
On March, 16, 1868, George W. Barefoot, married Miss Sallie Boone, the ceremony taking place in Grayson county, Texas. Emma, their eldest child, is the wife of E. T. Woodson, of Oklahoma City. Bert B., the eldest son, graduated from the Georgetown (Texas) College and from the law department of the Texas State University; is a rising attorney and Democrat, and is the present county attorney of Grady county, having, as the unanimous choice of his party, defeated his Republican opponent by 1,837 votes. His wife was formerly Mamie Spencer. Clifford, the third and youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Barefoot, is a student at the Oklahoma State University. Mr. Barefoot is a Democrat, a Mason and an Elk, and a man of balanced character and broad usefulness.

----

George W. Barefoot was a member of the Choctaw tribe by virtue of intermarriage. His wife was 1/8 Choctaw.
(see attached 'letter')

Hello,
Ollie May Barefoot is my Grandmother. Her mother Was Elizabeth and her mother was Beddie Jane Barefoot. The roll number for Solomon Price is on the back of his military desertion papers from Bradley county, Tn. military records. For 10.00 you can get a copy from the state. The story I heard from the Indians who I talked to said that the Indians were rounded up and placed in hold "pens". They either signed up to join the military or they could choose to stay in the camp. They were not feed or allowed to leave; some choose to die. Most joined the military and as soon as they could they escaped, or as the military called it "deserted". I have no evidence of this story but would like some if anyone has it. There are records of many Indians deserting the military during this period of time. These records include the Roll number of the deserting indian stamped on the back of the form.

The GW Barefoot We are researching was born in Edgecomb Co., NC in 1823. He had a twin brother named Andrew Jackson Barefoot. We have been searching for records to verify his parents names. His mothers name may have possibly been Margaret or Peggy, and his father may have been named John, although we have not found difinitive proof of this.

Is Miles Barefoot the same as Noah Gideon Miles Barefoot (1790-8/20/1851) in NC? I am trying to locate info on this line of Barefoot's for my husband. Noah Gideon Miles Barefoot would be my husband's GGGGgandfather. I am getting confused by the amount of Noah Barefoot's I am coming across.
My husband's line:
Andrew Barefoot son of Dennis Wayne Barefoot (1947- )
Son of William Purdie Barefoot (1908-1955)
Son of W Purdie Barefoot Sr. (1881-1957)
Son of William Cicero Barefoot (1858-1939)
I then have Noah B Barefoot (1826-1917) as his father. But that is where I get confused. I'm not sure I have the right Noah B Barefoot. And then not sure if Noah Gideon Miles Barefoot is correct.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanks,
Heather

I know your post was a long time ago, but I am still searching for the lineage of my GG grandfather George Washington Barefoot. He was born in Edgecomb Co NC in 1823, had a twin brother named Andrew Jackson. I am trying to locate their father. GW owned a grist mill in now Wilson NC, and had a large farming operation. We have not yet came across convincing evidence of his father. Although their is evidence GW owned land in the same location as Jeptha Barefoot Sr. There was much land in Jeptha's will distributed to his heirs. I have a suspicion his father may have been Jeptha's grandson John through Noah. Their is a word of mouth history that GW's father was named John. Noah's son John we know inherited property, but know very little about him other than he was bonded out to a John Morris when Noah died. The Morris family were neighbors to the property Noah's children inherited from Jeptha Sr.

Trying to find out info. on a family with the surname Barefoot from either Antrim or Londonderry,N.Ireland. My gr.gr.gr. grandmother Margaret Barefoot was married in Ladyhill,Antrim at Millrow Presbyterian Church to Robert Adair on Sept.15.1826 I believe to Robert Adair. At the same time and date a Mary Barefoot married a James Adair in the same church. So possibly a double wedding ceremony in both the families, must be closely related. I believe its possible this Mary ended up in ontario Canada not sure. Anyone with a Margaret or Mary Barefoot born around 1805-1810 in Northern Ireland please reply, especially if they have a connection to any Adairs.

I am searching for John and Talitha (in one census it's Calitha) Barefoot. He was born around 1812 in NC (or SC according to another census) and she was born in SC around 1824 or 1834 - 2 different dates for her as well depending on the census you look at. We have a census record from 1870 where they are in Dale Co AL, but cannot find dates of death or wonder if they have moved elsewhere. We do not know Talitha (Calitha's) maiden name.

They had a son Greenbriar Barefoot who is my husband's great great great grandfather. We have a lot of information on him and his children. He had brothers James, Vincey, and sisters Hallie and Anna who were all born in Georgia country. There is one more sister listed (Eliza) and 1 brother, Jackson, born in AL. All are listed on the 1860 census.

If anyone has info on John and Calitha (Talitha) Barefoot I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks,
Janet

I'm sorry--my children say I have a one track mind and when I get on it I think ever one is also. I was talking about the Bundrant's---Harden A--father John--father Richard--father John Peter---father Jean Piere--father Jean Piere. Nothing that I have proof of.
I am really interested in Sarah Elizabeth that married Theodore H. Siggle [Sig] Tucker--their daughter Nancy Isabell married Tom Parks--they had a daughter Viola May who married a Wickliffe. These were my husbands parents.[This will let you know I'm no young chicken] Ha
What I have been trying to find is the connection of Indian
blood . I have a picture of Ada, Nancy's sister that shows a lot of Indian--and Viola was , and some of Viola's children had features of Indian. I have found a Roberts in the list of Indians, but they give no dates. I would love to find some kind of conection.
I do apperciate the information you sent, as I have found things I did not have. I have some dates of the older Bundrants and their wives if you would like. You may email me if you like. lmwick29@gmail.com Lula Wickliffe
I'm not sure what you mean by 5 generations back. In that lineage
father = Allan Tomlinson
Grandmother = Nancy (Barefoot) Tomlinson
3 generations = Isaac Barefoot and Mary Lucinda Bundrant
4 generations = Harden Bundrant and Mary Hancock

I was able to trace a relation to Amon Carter of Texas through the Hancock family. My great aunt Mary (Mary Orr Russel of Reserve New Mexico) had contacted him years ago through her mother and grandmother's letters. (Her mother was Mary Lucinda Bundrandt and her grandmother Nancy Hancock Bundrant.) Amon Carter was a Texas Millionaire who founded the Amon Carter Museum. Nancy Hancock Bundrant's sister Mary Ann married a Carter and was the ?grandmother of Amon Carter.
There was a rumor that we were related to John Hancock, but I was able to eliminate this possibility. The rumor was that John Hancock was an Uncle and one of like 7 or 9 brothers. This could not have been the famous John Hancock who had almost no family.)

Nancy Hancock Bundrant was buried here:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSmcid=...;

some stuff is at:
http://mkhgenealogy.com/3245/

I don't know much about Martha Barefoot Wentworth who was my great aunt. I had contact with some of her grandchildren though. I found out recently that this was because her son William married my aunt Gayle (they were first cousins). They had 3 kids Helen, William III, and Alice.

If you have any info about the lineage of William Hancock I would be interested. William Hancock was too common of a name to research successfully.

It seems that we are related! My grandfather was Henry Durham Barefoot. His father was Franklin Hilliard Barefoot and his father was George W. Barefoot. I was wondering if you have any records or proof of our ancestors tribe and if they were registered on the rolls. Any information that you have would be greatly appreciated.
