Hello Deborah,

I believe that I am related to Christina and Wilhelmine. I am interested in their history. I was wondering if they immigrated because of the wars. I am also wondering if they were of Jewish descent and if that is why they fled to America.

Thank you for posting your information. It is nice to learn about where one comes from.

Take Care,

K Halverson

Hi Melody (and Nikki) I just posted something earlier today for someone looking for Barfknecht info. Wilson's two children, Tim and Jane, both live in MN in the Virginia area. I actually work with Tim's wife and Jane's daughter goes to school with my girls.
I have a run-down of Paul's brothers and sisters, along with some photocopies of his parents (who emigrated from Germany to Ladysmith, Wisconsin). My daughters' great-grandmother was Pearl (nee Barfknecht) Beck , who would be a first cousin to Paul & Mary's children. If memory serve me correctly, there are newspaper clippings in the Mountain Iron Public Library speaking of Paul's family. I'll have to check my notes.
I'm at work today, but will look for that info to pass along to you next week.
Jodie

Had kids Wilson Jr, Tim & Jane (I think they Wilson Jr is in MN, maybe Duluth)
Glen
Gary (died at 3 years old)
Ryllis (married Jim Clark) had kids DeEtta & Jim (my mom & uncle)
The last time I was in MN we stayed in Evelth (spelling?)& Mountain Iron area.
That's all I know for now - hope it helps.
Melody

My kids' paternal great grandmother was Pearl Barfknecht from Eveleth, Minnesota. Some Barfknecht settled in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, and others came to northern MN.

Hello. I am just starting my search into the Barfknecht family and am looking for any connection to a Gustave Barfknecht (dob Dec 1847), born in Berlin. He married Bertha Wedde (dob 1849) who I think may have been Polish/German. Gustave and Bertha raised their family in Minnesota. Any information would be appreciated, especially regarding the family before they came to the United States.

I am looking for any information regarding Fred BARFKNECHT (8 Nov 1822 - 15 Jun 1900) and Louise ZARNOTT (24 Feb 1824 - 25 Sep 1906), their descendants, or their ancestors. I believe Fred to have been born in Stuttgart, Germany. He served in the German army in artillery. He came to the United States with at least some of his family about 1877. I am aware of two of their children. Herman BARFKNECHT (28 Dec 1851 - 6 Jun 1931) who married Gustina Marie Bertha BUNTROCK (26 Nov 1865 - 8 May 1942) and Emilie BARFKNECHT (12 May 1865 - 15 Jan 1939). A possible third child might be Florentina BARFKNECHT (18 Apr 1860 - 5 Aug 1927) who married Herman SCHULZ (30 Jun 1855 - 13 Mar 1934), but that is only speculation at this point. Herman BARFKNECHT also served in the German army in the infantry. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Fred came to Wisconsin from Germany. This is all I have so far and would appreciate any information on this family. Thanks, Shirley

Deborah,
I'm very interested in the information you have on the Barfknecht family, although I'm not positive that I'm connnected yet. I have an ancestor who has always been identified in family records as Anna Marie Barschnech. She died in 1854 in Alsace-Lorraine according to information that has been handed down through family histories.
Anna Marie was the wife of Joseph Heichelbech who came to the US with his children, Matthias, Michael, Andrew, and my ancestor, Mary Madgalena Heichelbech.
I've never come across the name "Barschnech" in any civil records in the US or in Europe. My guess would be that it's possible that "Barschnech" may be the Anglicized version of a name like Barfknecht.
So I'm curious as to whether you have any information that might connect any of the Barfknecht's to a Heichelbech surname, or whether your records do indicate that "Barschnech" might actually be the same family.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi Nikki! I have some information on your family. I'm at work right now, but will dig up what I have and relay it to you. My childrens' dad is related to the Barfknecht family through his grandmother, Pearl. I have some info that I collected through newspapers. This family is from Eveleth & Mountain Iron, Minnesota. I will write more when I get all my stuff together.

Talk to you soon. Jodie

My name is Melody & I remember both your mom & dad. I remember visiting your grandparents in Tennessee with my grandma (Ryllis, who died Oct 2000, right after Wilson). My mom did a lot of family research on the Barfknechts and the Clarks (Ryllis husband, Jim Clark) and I think I have all the papers now. Feel free to contact me and I can share what I have. There are a ton of relatives in Minnesota and I think some in Wisconsin & N. Dakota. Take Care!

BARFKNECHT, Karl aka Charles INGALLS

Anybody know anything about a Karl Barfknecht who came to Oshkosh, WI, then to Town of Richmond, Shawano County, WI with parents Christian & Wilhelmine Barfknecht around 1875? Was must have been born between 1846 and 1862, but probably more like 1855-1862. Apparently he went to North Dakota, where he changed his name to Charles Ingalls, married and spent the rest of his life there.

Barfknecht Document Available going back to 1600s

I have a chronicle of the Barfnecht lines dating back to the 1600s in Germany from a Thomas Barfknecht, who lives in Germany. It is written entirely in German and was written during the Nazi era in an effort to prove the purity of the Barfknecht line, according to Thomas. It is a one of a kind document. There are separate Barfknecht lines from Wulkow/Pegelow, Schwendt, Sassenbur-Rossow, Lenz, Gross Wachlin, Klein Wachlin, Roggow, Wittenfelde, Gross-Leistikow, Barwalde, Schonewalde, Naugard-Damerow-Klausdorf, and Berlin. I have been able to decipher pertinent parts of it using the on-line translator, but someone fluent in German would be of great help. My Barfknechts come from Wittenfelde (Christian and Wilhelmine Barfknecht ended up in Shawano, WI). There is mention of Otillie Barfknecht to married a Friederich Buss and ended up in the Milwaukee area, but I have not been able to make a connection. I see on the net many Barfknechts who ended up in Texas and Ohio. Would like to figure out how they fit in too. I would be happy to share this information, and Thomas Barfknecht is also eager to get in touch with Barfknechts in America. Please contact me if you are interested in this treasure trove of information at dksjwalsh@msn.com
