Leona Martha Schultz Barge
Leona Martha Schultz Barge, 95, formerly of Pottsville, died Nov. 12, 2002, at the home of her daughter, Elaine Byrnside in Columbus, Georgia.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1907, the oldest of twelve children to the late Emil and Marie Otto Schultz in Wheaton, Minnesota. On January 1, 1928 she married Harry Daniel Barge in Truman, Minnesota and in 1954 they moved to Pottsville. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League in Russellville. She retired from St. Mary’s Hospital after 13 years of employment there. In 1978, Leona and Harry celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, only ten days before his death. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were one infant daughter, Lenore, one granddaughter, Cheryl Barge of Wood Lake, Minnesota, two brothers, Bernhardt Schultz of Truman, Minnesota and Harold Schultz of Alexandria, Minnesota and one sister, Wilma Brinkman of Fremont, Nebraska.
Survivors include three sons, Norman Barge and wife, Ardith, of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, Warren Barge and wife, Mary Ann of Greenwood, Arkansas, Ralph Barge and wife, Melba of Damascus, Arkansas, three daughters, Elaine Byrnside and husband, John of Columbus, Georgia, Doris Weatherford and husband Roy of Tampa, Florida and Margaret Motley and husband, Allan of Pottsville; four brothers, Emil Schultz and Herb Schultz of Alexandria, Minnesota, Lawrence Schultz of Fairmont, Minnesota, and Raymond Schutlz of Mankato, Minnesota; four sisters, Thuesnelda Williamson of Trimont, Minnesota, Mathilda Johnson and Lueila Wessel of Truman, Minnesota, Glenda Bode of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seventeen grandchildren, Nita Drews and husband, Ken of Bloomington, Minnesota, Frank Byrnside and his wife, Nina of Stafford, Virginia, David Byrnside of Columbus, Georgia, Bruce Barge and wife Carol of San Clemente, California, Deborah Algarin and husband David of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Melanie Leger and husband Dan of Phoenix, Arizona, Michael Brynside and wife Cathy of Denver, Colorado, Rochelle Hoffman and husband Charles of Morganza, Maryland, Darcy Peppersack andhusband Alan of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, Rebecca Cotton and husband Dennis of Fort Worth, Texas, Danny Barge of Princeton, Texas, David Motley of Little Rock, Arkansas and wife Katalin, Aaron Barge of Greenwood, Arkansas, Jesse Barge and wife Caren of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Margaret Weatherford of Alexanderia, Virginia and Amy Barge of Damascus, Arkansas, eighteen great-grandchildren, Rachel Catherine and Mathew Joel Barge, Skylar David West, Amanda Cheryl and Sarah Kathleen Leger, Laura Ann and Ryan Alan Peppersack; Daniel Franklin and Rebecca Diana Byrnside, Victor Michael and Alison Joy, Sarah Elizabeth Dupont, Sabrina Marie, Nicole Lynne and Danielle Kathryn Hoffman, Matthew Thomas, Sarah Elizabeth, and Emily Michelle Cotton and 61 nieces and nephews.
A remembrance service was held on Nov. 16 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Columbus, Ga. with the Rev. Carl Peterson officiating. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Darrell Kobs at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Saturday Burial was in the Pisgah Cemetery at Pottsville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Frank, Joe and Micheal Brynside, Danny, Aaron and Jesse Barge
