Barge could be German.

There is record of a Lt Colonel Johannes Barge of the Wehrmacht who was in command of German forces stationed on the occupied Greek island of Kefalonia in 1943.

George Barge-Martha Larson of St. James, MN

This couple was wed in St. James, MN, in 1895. She was dau of Margaret Kennedy and Peter Larson, born in England. What happened to her? Husband died in St. James in 1940. Did Martha move away? I'm also interested in her parents. Her mother, born in Ireland about 1850, was a widow when she wed Joseph Savage in St. James, 1896. They purportedly were divorced. Where and when did Margaret and Peter Larson die? No records in Watonwan County. Peter Larson was born in Norway.

I was rummaging through my Barge papers awhile ago and found some scribblings that I made while interviewing a distant cousin, James "Jimmy"Barge. He was my grandfather's first cousin. My grandfather, John Barge, was born in 1913, so he's of that generation.

Cousin Jimmy told me two things that I've not been able to document. The first thing he told me was that one of the Fayetteville Barge's "ran off with the indians and went west." He didn't know which Barge and he didn't know the name of the tribe.

The second thing he told me was that another "Fayetteville Barge" travelled to Russia in the early 20th century and that this cousin used to correspond with his parents. They eventually lost touch. He was a young man at the time (probably around the 1930's or 1940's) and couldn't recall the name.

I'm just throwing this out as a possibility. My folks look very indian, but then again, we've got an infusion from New York Indian tribes. Some of the few photographs that I have of the 19th century Barges, actually look asian or indian. I don't know exactly where the mixture took place, but do know my folks were mixed race.
Brooks

Sorry to get back to you so late, but I just checked the message board today.

I have a lot of information on Johannes Barge family. please e-mail me. Well Johannes had a son named John George Barge, I have a picture of John. I have been sick for a long time but now I am fine. I plan on working on my Barge family and also so some not related to me. Most of the Barges I have found are from PA. Some went to southern states. Johannes went to Indiana in 1850 with many children. His wife name was Sarah. Their son John married in Indiana couple of there male children moved to KY.

Your family must be very proud of you going to such a great college.

Bye for now Carolyn in CA.

Your Barge family sounds like the Barge Family that I knew as a child and teenager growing up in St. Louis; I went to elementary school with Joseph and Melba Barge, they lived on Marcus St, graduated high school w/ Joseph. If this is the same Barge family, would like to know how Joseph is doing, have not seen him since June 10, 1969. If so please e mail me at lhorton@cc-pc.com or ljhort@hotmail.com.
I am at a dead end trying to find information about my grandfather William Lewis Gentry, born August 9, 1904, died January 28, 1944. He was married to Cassie Grace Puckett Hawkins. William Lewis Gentry's father was William Andrew Gentry, born November 30, 1878, died December14, 1944. He married Hassie Bell. I have not been able to find ancestors beyond that point. I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

K. Barge

I have a feeling that all of the barges have white ancestory. My great-grand father Elbert Barge was half white. The story is that his mother secretly "married" a French man named Le'Barge. She must have been his concubine or something, but her children did not seem to be sold. My great grand-father was named Elbert Barge and he had green eyes, freckles and fair skinned. I have all of his childrens names have been found. Sylvester, John Henry, Albert, Vera, Carmen, Kenneth(my grandfather), Moses, Rebecca, Kerry, Rubina, Lillian, Laura, Joseph, Arthur and a still born. If any of these names ring a bell e-mail me please.

I will always Love, embrace and demonstrate some of the awesome attributes of the Barge Family... I was raised just around the corner from the Barges and John Barge III was my first and only boyfriend my grandfather dared to trust.. John III (the artist).. demonstrated the greatest respect and lead by genteel godly examples. The Barge philosophy of loving the lord with pure zest and excitement is contagious. When Mr. Barge started his ministries, I was overjoyed at the invitation to join.. StationWagon packed to the roof, Mr. Barge left no one behind... Mr. Barge's home going is bitter sweet for me however Im positive just as he was that he will sit at the right hand of the lords well done committee.. There is a quote that a "mighty god is a living man", Mr. Barge was Mighty indeed. If you truly knew and loved the Barges such as myself and family still do, rejoice in the lord for he has blessed you with one of his very special angel's. To Mrs. Barge, I love you forever you are truly an example of virtue in a woman. John, WE always knew you'd stand in the gap and fulfill manhood as you've done so well.. Marcus, stay handsome as you where as a kid. Darby, WoW what can I say about the lil quiet one and the the twins girls I held on their first week home,,, wow to the women you'll become for the foundation laid before you is solid... I'm still in Pasadena, in the same house so feel free to come and fellowship anytime,. John, first true love, you know i miss ya and wish all the best in all your works...
