MUSCATINE, Iowa - Mildred J. Barger, 95, of Muscatine, died Sunday, November 9, 2008, at Bickford Cottage.
Service will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend David Ivie of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
Mildred was born on December 29, 1912, in Muscatine, the daughter of E. J. and Jessie Collin Asthalter. Her first marriage was to Harry Wiegand on October 11, 1934, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death. She later married John Barger on October 23, 1980, in Muscatine. He also preceded her in death.
She worked at Asthalter Book Store, Town and Country Fabric Shop, and she managed the book store at Muscatine Junior College for 10 years prior to her retirement.
She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Jan L. Beinke and husband, Mike, of Muscatine; two step-daughters, Jeannie Atheney and Judy Rush, both of St. Petersburg, Florida; two grandsons, Josh Beinke and wife, Julie, of Muscatine and Zach Beinke and wife, Alison, of Muscatine; one sister-in-law, Naomi Young of Muscatine; three nieces, Jeanne McGinnis of Colorado, Liz Carver of Montrose, and Sue Hoxie of Colorado; and two nephews, Jim Young and Tom Young, both of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one sister, Margaret Sample, and one brother, Dr. Robert W. Asthalter.
