My Great Great Grandfather was the sixth child of George (Washington?) Buffenbarger and Hannah Hause. Thomas Poffenberger in his book (From Germany to Antietam) states that Peter Pfaffenberger (grandson of Georg Pfaffenberger and Anna Marta) purchased land in1796 as Peter Buffenbarger. The book also states that the fifth child of Peter Buffenbarger and Mary Shobe was named George and that George married Hannah Hannah Hawse (Haas) 3/11/1804. He also states that the fourth child of Peter and Mary was born about 1790 which implies that Gorge was born after 1990 which doesn't seem likely considering that he was married in 1804. Based upon information posted on Ancestry.com by Bill Smothers it seems likely that Geroge was born about 1780. If we can resolve the date issue, it would leave little doubt that our George (Washington) is the same as the George that is the child of Peter Buffenbarger. Note that I have spelled the last name of Hannah as "Hause" which is the way it is spelled on the tombstone in "Buffenbarger Cemetery". In 1972 I visited Buffenbarger Cemetery near South Charleston (Clark County) Ohio and recorded all of the inscriptions on the tombstones that were ledgeable.
