Looking for information on the HIGHSMITH/SHUFFELBARGER families living in Pope around 1850 or so. All the facts that I have is that a Polly HIGHSMITH married a Elias SHUFFELBARGER in Pope County on Sept. 16 1853. Plus, John HIGHSMITH married Mary SHUFFELBARGER in Pope County on July 14 1850. John and Mary are listed on Stewart County, TN. 1850 census as John age 24 and Mary age 25 with three children. They are William SHUFFELBARGER age 7, Elisabeth SHUFFELBARGER age 4 and Martha HIGHSMITH age 4 months. All the children were born in Illinois. Thanks in advance Chris HIGHSMITH.
