Iona Barker, 82, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.

A memorial service will be held at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn, Fairfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston County 4-H Foundation and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. 64601.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Lindley Funeral Home. Visitation at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe.


Mrs. Barker was born Dec. 6, 1921, the daughter of Mahlon and Olive Monson McCormick, in Lockridge, Ia. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1939.

She married Joseph Barker Aug. 15, 1947, in Fairfield. She moved to Chillicothe, Mo., from Muscatine in 1996. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe. She was also a member of the Hannah-Naomi-Ruth Circle and the Senior Adult Minister, Sam's. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Muscatine where she served as a Worthy Matron. She was a former 4-H leader.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rick Barker and wife Betty of Topeka, Kan. and Mahlon Barker and wife Sandy of Dallas, Center, Iowa; two daughters, Cathy Wombwell and husband Glenn of Marceline, Mo. and Marti Miller and husband Mike of Chillicothe; two brothers, Leland McCormick and his wife Barbara of Iowa City and Virgil McCormick and his wife Louisa of Milan, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Bernard McCormick
