My name is Michael Barkey and I have been researching the Barkey family for a few years now. My pedigree traces the Barkey family of Detroit and Flint Michigan, back to Oswego, New York, and then to County Monaghan, Ireland. I believe Francis Barkey came to the United States a few years prior to the Irish potato famine (c. 1840), possibly through Quebec, Canada, with his wife Mary and his children. Then, following the death of ten children, Francis, Mary, and their two remaining children, James and Minnie, migrated to Flint, Michigan, circa 1850. The Barkey family subsequently spread out throughout the state of Michigan beginning in the 1950s. I would be very interested in learning whether the Barkey family you have been researching is located in any of these places around the same time period. Hopefully, we can help each other fill in a few details.
