barkhimer - PA, OH, VA help
Our family is trying to locate ANY information regarding an ancestor by the name of LEVI BARGAHISER. He was born in 1791 in PA. Approx. 1803 he became a bound boy for a gentleman by the name of Martin Ruffner (from VA) and they all moved to Ohio. In 1811
Levi survived an indian massacre that took the life of Martin. We speculate that after the massacre, the family (including Levi) moved to VA. Levi then served in the War of 1812 in regiment from VA. At some point he married Susanna Eshelman and eventually moved to Ohio and raised their family. It has also been told that he had a brother named Jacob.

We speculate that the name got changed sometime while he was a bound boy. If you have any ideas where we should search or anyone to contact we would be MOST appreciative.

Thank you,
Kathy Foster
Barkimer, Barkhimer, Barkheimer, etc.

Hello everyone -
I'm hoping someone out there know the answer to my question. I'm trying to find out if my Barkimers are the same as the Barkhimers and Barkheimers that I see listed here on these boards. I remember hearing as a child that our name used to be Barkhimer or Barkheimer. Does anyone have any information that could point me in the right direction?

My Barkimers are in and around Ohio counties of Allen, Pickaway, Hancock and Hardin.
Thanks!!

Elizabeth Barkhimer, wife of Isaac Vertrees

I am looking for the family of my Elizabeth Barkhimer. I don't know that this spelling is correct or not, but this is what I was given by a cousin.

Elizabeth was born about 1761 (county and state unknown). She married Isaac Vertrees on Dec 5, 1781. I assume it was in PA, because their son, William, was born in PA. Isaac served in the revolutionary war. I do not yet have his military papers, but am in the process of getting them.

Elizabeth and Isaac moved to Hardin county, KY where both of them died in the early 1800's. I am looking to connect Elizabeth to her family.

Tina Hall
