Classification: Query
Surnames: BARKSDALE HOLCOMBE YANCY RUSSELL
Seeking any info on a John Barksdale listed on the 1840 Jefferson Co., AL census. Based on the census he would have been b/1780-1790/SC and also in his HH was 1 female b/1780-1790. I believe this female is probably Mary Barksdale who is the only Barksdale listed on the Jefferson Co., AL 1850 census. She is shown to be 70/SC and living in the HH of Hiram Russell.
She is again shown living in this same HH on the 1860 Jefferson Co., AL census.
In 1840 there was also a John A. Barksdale living a few doors down/b/1810-1820/SC with 1 female b/1810-1820 and a few doors down from him is William H. Barksdale b/1810-1820/SC with 1 female b/1820-1825 with 2 males under the age of 5--

These are the only Barksdale's listed on the 1840 Jefferson Co., AL census and it makes sense that they are probably family with John A. and William H. Barksdale being son's of John and Mary Barksdale----I assume John/SR. died before the 1850 census--I find William H. Barksdale on the 1850 Lafayette Co., MS census living in the HH of a Yancey family---he later that yr married Maryann Cassandra Holcombe who's family came from Jefferson Co., AL and settled in Lafayette Co., MS. I find a John A. Barksdale, the right age, listed on the 1850 Prairie Co., AR census as sheriff with a wife.

Does anyone know anything abt these Barksdale's???Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am very interested in the family of William H. Barksdale. I have lots on his descendants from his marriage to Cassie but do not know his parents or siblings. I do believe this is the correct family to put him with but need proof.

In closing I find only 1 John Barksdale, the right age to be the father, listed on the 1830 Laurens Co., SC census so he could be the right one.

Thx in advance for any input----
