My dad Phillip Stanley Barlow and I lost contact in 1989ish, because i got angry that I couldn't come and help him after a herina surgry. Since I was already taking care of my nearly bedridden mother and raising my 8 year old little sister. I have been trying to find him for years. I don't know if he's still alive even. If you know him please let me know.
Thanks,
Lynne

I am searching for information about a Rebecca Boyles, 16, who was living with the Jesse Barlow family in Crawford Co. Ill. in 1850. She was born in Ill. in 1833 and died in Crawford Co. Ill. May 3, 1906. She is buried in Wilkens Cemetery in Crawford Co. She married John E. Stifle Dec 26, 1853 in Crawford Co. There is no record of her death in the county clerk's office. The census records say her parents are from Ky. I want to know her ancestry and why she was living with the Barlows.

James Barlow Ann Crompton

Hi! Am looking for a way to verify a family 'ledgend' for James Barlow and his wife Ann Crompton Barlow. The story goes that James and Ann joined the Mormon Church in England during the late 1830's early 1840's. As the family was preparing to leave England and go to the States they attended a Church meeting during which men from the congregation were being called to serve missions. James Barlow was "called to serve a mission to the spirit world". The next morning he was found dead leaving his wife and children to journey to the States alone. Ann and the children made it to the States and were members of the Edward Martin handcart company. Is there anyway to verify this story? Thanks in advance - any info would be greatly appreciated!
Rebekah

You may try looking under Mattison instead. If you visit the local library's website, The Green Free Library, (just do a search, you will find it)and click on newspaper archives. type in your search names and you will be amazed at what you may find. There is tons on info on the Hulbert's and other surnames that resided in Tioga county PA. I am a Hulbert and in looking up my own genealogy, there is a lot of Mattisons, and the names you mentioned minus spelling, so check it out.

I am assuming you have heard about Barlow's Knoll in Gettysburg and that Francis Channing Barlow is buried in Brookline Massachusetts. I am not sure if I am related to him or not, still trying to find my Barlow lineage... I am at a brickwall. Just wanted to mention about Francis to you just in case you haven't heard. I am trying to find out if my elusive ancestor Nathaniel Barlow was any relation to Francis...there is such a resemblance if facial features to my grandmother and her great grandmother,to Francis, that it to hard to not venture that route...

Are your Barlows any relation to the Nathaniel Barlow supposedly from Canada and lived back and forth from VT to NY? Wife Rachel...children Nathaniel, Isaac, Alva, Rachel, Mary, Augusta, and Rachel Jane. 1850 Ticonderoga NY census, he was out of the picture. Wife was remarried to William Banker and had a few children with new husband. Nathaniel died possibly 1843-1846. Anything on this family might help but I am trying to find where he may have died and buried and who his parents are and anything on his son Alva that died in Civil War. Thank you, Gail

Ida Severson married Peter Barlow 1913 in South Dakota

Attached is a portrait of a large family that was taken in Clark, South Dakota. I believe it is 7 daughters, 2 sons and their parents. It is possible that this family has some connection to the Severson, the Bjordal / Bjordahl, or Bjornson lineages that resided in the Kingsbury county area of South Dakota around the time frame 1880-1910.

Two Severson brothers (Bjornson in Norway) immigrated in 1874 together - Bertinius B. Severson and Sem Adolf Severson. I am a descendant from Bertinius. I have no information about Sem Adolf, but suspect this may be a portrait of him and his family. Looking at the portrait, the father resembles Bertinius, but Bertinius' children are the wrong gender for this to be his family. One of Bertinius daughters - Ida - married a Peter Barlow.

If anyone has any information about this portrait, or Sem Adolf Severson's descendants, I would appreciate your response.

Re: James Barlow of Caroline Co Va

1830 US Federal Census
At the top of the census page it says, “Schedule of the whole number of Persons in the District allotted to Edmund Pendleton by the Marshal of the Eastern District (or Territory) of the State of Virginia” The number 175 is in the upper left corner of the page. A James Barlow is listed as “of twenty and under thirty.” No other family is in the household. I have not yet found any parents for James Barlow.

“Virginia Marriages 1740 to 1850” in Ancestry.com says that James Barlow married Sarah Ann Puller on 9 March 1840 in Caroline County, Virginia.

1850 US Federal Census
At the top of the census page it says, “Schedule I. Free Inhabitants in the Eastern District in the County of Spotsylvania, State of Virginia enumerated by me, on the 13th day of September 1850. [unknown] Chancellor, Ass’t Marshal.” The number 40 is in the upper left corner of the page. A James Barlow, age 50, occupation Overseer, is listed as living with Allice Barlow, age 8, Battle (transcribed incorrectly in Ancestry.com as “Batter”) Barlow, age 6, and Cath. Pulliam, age 65. I believe the older woman is Catherine Puller, daughter of James Puller, 1755-1800, and Sarah Sale (1766-1800) and wife of John G. Puller (1788 to 1820). I'm still looking for proof of this. To me this indicates that Sarah Ann Puller Barlow died before 1850, although I have found no proof of this yet, either.

1860 US Federal Census Alice Catherine Barlow, age 17, is shown as living with the James T. Puller family. Battle (now spelled “Battaille”) is living with the Thomas L. Jones family in Bowling Green, possibly as a apprentice. In “Caroline County, Virginia, Bureau of Vital Statistics Death Records, 1853-1896” by Herbert Ridgeway Collins, I found that in September 1959 a James Barlow, a 52 year old white male with the occupation of Overseer, committed suicide. This was reported by Robert Broaddus, administrator. I haven’t proved that this is “my” James Barlow, but it would explain why, in 1860, his children were living elsewhere.

Alice Catherine Barlow married John Edmund Chiles on 11 March 1866. They were my great-grandparents, and the parents of my grandmother, Glenmore Lora Chiles (1877-1945) who was the second wife of James Edward Puller (1869-1959). My mother, their youngest daughter Annie, was born on the Puller farm a few miles up Newtown Road from Sparta. I’m sharing that detail as I think you live in the general area.

I realize your posting was several years ago, and you may already have all of this information now.

Marie
