Classification: Query
I am attempting to identify descendants of Selah-6 (Edward-5, Edward-4, Joseph Jr.-3, Joseph-2, Francis-1) Barnard, born ca. 1770 Windsor, Hartford CT.
In the 1820 federal census, he has 3 male children less than 10 years of age, plus two female childen. He seems to disappear for the 1830 census, but then a Selah Barnard is first enumerated in the 1840 census, Buffalo, NY; he has 3 male children now 20 to less than 30 years, along with 2 female children. This Buffalo Selah is listed as being between 50 and less than 60 years of age, rather than the expected 70, but this could be an error. This latter Selah also is listed in the 1832 Buffalo city directory. Notwithstanding Stiles' suggestion that the Windsor Selah is probably the Selah that died in 1838, I strongly suspect that Selah removed to New York and was residing in Buffalo in 1832 and for the 1840 census. I haven't located an appropriate Selah Barnard in the 1850 census, and have no names of the children from the earlier censuses to follow through on. Any help on identifying these children and their descendants will be appreciated.
