OBITUARY – These three obituaries were boxed together in the July 27, 1854 edition of the Augusta Chronicle. Very sad.

Died suddenly in Columbia County, Georgia, on the evening of the 21st April, in the 25th year of his age, Dr. OCTAVIUS LAFAYETTE BARNES, son of John BARNES and Harriet Bowdre Darsey. Dr. Barnes was a graduate of the Medical Department of the University of New York, and a member of the last Georgia House of Representatives from his native county of Columbia. In the prime of his manhood with every prospect of a long life of useful deeds, he was stricken down, leaving many weary, saddened hearts to mourn his untimely fate.

DIED on the 19th February, SARAH FRANCES BOYD, wife of O. L. BARNES, and eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Hezekiah BOYD. In her daily life, as in her death, she displayed that innate purity and liveliness of character which made her the idol of her fond husband and her doting family, and the dearly beloved of many, many friends.

DIED on the 23rd of January, OCTAVIUS FRANCIS, infant son of O.L. and S.F. BARNES. Peace be theirs, ever more!
