Belle Barney, b.abt 1869, dau of Joseph/Ann, of Powhatan Co., VA

I have an original carte de visite photograph of “Belle Barney”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Fredericksburg (Spotsylvania Co.) VA, and she looks to be about age 18.

I found Belle with her parents in the 1870 census of Huguenot (Powhatan Co.) VA and in 1880, in Spotsylvania Co., VA. In 1870, she was 2 and in 1880, she was 11. Parent’s name in 1870 look to be Jas. N. Barney (age 51) and wife Nannie D. (52). In 1880, names appear to be Joseph M. (age 61) and wife Ann S. (42).

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Belle Barney.

I am looking for info on this woman. She was the daughter of department store owner Charles E. Barney of St. Louis. She gave a lot of money to the Jesuits in 1922 for the alter to Mary in the new chapel at the St. Stanislaus Seminary in Florissant. She died in 1935 and was buired on the seminary grounds in the floor of the small Ava Maria chaple. Her boby was exumed and reinturned at Calvery in St. Louis when the seminary was sold in 1972. I understand she married a rich man (Blake) from New York and moved there. As far as I know, she was the only woman buried at the seminary except for the possiblity of the wives of the negro slaves that helped build the seminary building and till the farm land of the seminary. There were over 350 jesuits buried there.
Hi all! I have a Lost and Found on my website, where I post items that MAY be possible for people to link to their families. Since I've come across a BARNEY (sort of), I thought I'd post and try to find it a home.

This one is a wild shot in the dark! The item is a photo of an unidentified woman. On the back it reads "In Edna BARNEYs P???" If you've got an eye with old pics, and can help date it or anything else, please LMK! :-)

I AM trying to sell it, but only for the price I paid for it plus shipping - and if you don't want to buy it, you can still take a copy of it from the site, free. You can see it at http://annalovesbooks.com/lostfound19.html and the entire Lost and Found at http://annalovesbooks.com/genealogy.html

Thanks!
Anna

Col. Benjamin Barney

I ran across a typed, hand bound family tree book that was published in 1967, and includes a picture of Col. Benjamin Barney. This book states that he was born on Sept. 4, 1795, in Berkshire, Mass. The first of his ancestry in America, in the paternal line was William Barney, about 250 years ago, from Ireland. From this book, I cannot tell if it was 250 years before the Col. was born, or 250 years before the book was written.

Does anyone have any information on the ancestry of Col. Benjamin Barney? Any help is appreciated.

Lori

April 1864, Quebec, Canada, (date and place of marriage unknown) and had two children, Helen M., b. 24 June 1883, Evansville, Indiana, and Charles N. Barney, b. November 1886, Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

In the 1900 U.S. Census, Charles was living in Woonsocket, RI, with his family, and worked as a nightwatchman. I cannot find any further information about him and have checked both the Rhode Island and Massachusetts State Archives for death records (after the 1900 census), but have not had any success.

If anyone has any information about Charles Barney, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
Mary Adamson
mfadamson57@aol.com

OLD BARNEY CABINET CARD PHOTO FOUND

I have purchased/rescued an old cabinet card photo of an older man. I suspect this photo was taken in the 1880's or 1890's. This man has a long beard, and is wearing a white, high collared shirt, and a dark jacket. Photo is in excellent condition, and was taken by D. A. Lowe, 930 Peach St.. Erie, PA. On the back of the card is written what appears to be "Mrs. H. A. Barney, Albion R, PA.

I have looked in the 1880 census, and found an Alonzo Barney who is living in Conneant, Erie Co. PA. Also, I found Barneys in 1870 census in Albion. I believe I am on the right track to identify this man.

I rescue old photos with the goal of returning them to their family, or another safe haven. I would like to know if anybody out there might connect to this man. I have only a limited bit of info which is written on the back of the cabinet card. If you think this is your family member, or you may be interested in this photo, please contact me at: jmje36@aol.com

Emma Elizabeth INGS (nee BARNEY), Illinois > Saskatchewan

In my INGS line I have an Emma Elizabeth BARNEY (born: 08 Feb 1896 in Illinois, USA and died in 1990 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada) and was married to John INGS (b 1889 in Newfoundland, died: 1972 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan). They married in Saskatchewan in 1919 so somewhere between her birth in 1896 - 1919 she (possibly with her family) moved to Canada.

I am hoping to learn if Emma's parents were Daniel BARNEY and Ida ????

When I searched the USA censuses I found an Emma who was born Feb 1896 in IL showing the following:

Victor Township, Dekalb County, Illinois, 1900 US Census:

BARNEY, Daniel, Head, b: Aug 1864 in ENG
BARNEY, Ida F, Wife, b: Dec 1874 in PA
BARNEY, Emma E, Daughter, b: Feb 1896 in IL
BARNEY, Florence L, Daughter, b: Apr 1897 in IL
BARNEY, Walter J, Son, b: Oct 1898 in IL
BARNEY, Jessie M, Daughter, b: Jan 1900 in IL.

Is the Emma in the above census daughter of Daniel & Ida BARNEY the same Emma that was married to John INGS who lived and died in Saskatchewan?

The two Emma E. BARNEY's have a birthdate of Feb 1896 in IL but I do not want to assume because there is always the possibility that they are not the same person. Would anyone know?
Elizabeth Ann BARNEY's Possible Massachusetts Birth

I have received information which suggests that Elizabeth Ann BARNEY, born about 1824, a daughter of Thomas Marion BARNEY and Barbara SHAFFER and wife of John MEEK, may have been born in Massachusetts. The other possible birthplace is Kentucky.

Can anyone elaborate on the possible Massachusetts birth of Elizabeth Ann BARNEY? How did it come about that Massachusetts is suspected as her possible birthplace?

Elizabeth Ann BARNEY died 25 Dec 1907, in Priest River, Idaho.

Thank you for any light you can shed on this matter!
Looking for the ancestors of Robert, born in Markham Twp, parents Andrew BRILLINGER and Hannah JOHNSON. The only other possible connection I have found is to Jacob BRILLINGER, born about 1862 in Markham Twp. His second marriage, to Jennie COWDEN in 1922, shows his parents as Andrew BRILLINGER and Anna JOHNSTON. His first marriage was to Sarah SULLIVAN. Both Robert and Jacob were Methodists.
There are a lot of York County Brillinger families to try to piece together. Hope somebody out there can help me out!

William DAVIS probably about 1846. He was born in Vermont about 1805 and died between 1852 –1855 probably In Grafton, Worcester Co., Massachusetts. Their children:

1)	Sarah M.
Alanson & Henry H. Barney, Herkimer County, New York

According to an entry on FamilySearch.org, Henry Hamilton Barney, son of Alanson Barney and Sarah Stiles, married Celestia Coffin. They had at least two children (according to 1880 census), Arthur H. Barney and Mabelle E. Barney.

I'm fairly certain that this Celestia Coffin must be the daughter of Worden R. and Lovina Coffin. After Henry Barney died, she later married a man with a last name of Wait(e), as indicated by her father's Will and probate papers.

Alanson Barney was also a witness for the Will of Celestia's grandfather Jacob Coffin, and Jacob's brother, Benjamin Coffin.

Any information on Alanson and Henry H. Barney would be greatly appreciated.

Wilson Shannon Barney

Mr. Barney,
I have discovered that Wilson Shannon Barney,
born in Ohio, the son of Martin Mark Barney and Permelia Perleman enlisted in the Union Army from
Wisconsin 10, Sept. 1862 and received a disability discharge 19, Nov. 1863. There is a Distinguished Service Commendation it states:
Wilson S. Barney-10 Sept. 1862, Distinguished Service, Union Army, State Served-Wisconsin, Unit Number 3055 3055. Enlisted as a Private on 10, Sept.
1862. Received a disability discharge on 19 November 1863.
In 1870 he and his wife Mary Mcgillick-also born in
Ohio are living in Colorado and have two children.
The next time I find him he is listed living with his
brother, Randolph Barney. He is now listed as Shannon Barney, a widower and his occupation is listed as a Capilalist. This is the last information I can find.
I have checked the Wisconsin information but I find no
indication of Shannon Barney or Randolph Barney after this census.
I would think since he was receiving money from the government for his disability I should be able to find more information as to when he died, where he is
buried.
We know that he and his wife had two children while
living in Colorado during the Gold Rush.
Charles Barney was my husband's Great Grand Father, his Sister, Ollie Barney married in Los Angeles, Ca.to a man from New York, who was a house painter. and evidentally died at San Diego, Ca.
Ollie had no children and I only found them married and together on the one census. The next census, the
man is a widower and living in a rooming house in
San Francisco. I followed this path and found him
in a census in 1930 living in the desert area of Ca.
I found a death date for him and where he died. I located the cemetary where he is buried, hoping to find an obituary as he died in 1952. I called the Mortuary and they told me there was no more information as he had died a pauper and that was the end of that possibility.

Barney surname

I have a document entitled, "History of the Barney and Cary Family." It was done before 1926 by a cousin of my father's. She went to the National Archives in Washington D.C. to do it (according to family rumor). I must stress that I do not know her exact sources, but the document is probably of at least some value. It does cite some sources. It traces the Barneys from the immigrant ancestor, Jacob Barney (father Edward) b. 1601, Braddenham, Buckshire, England through 10 generations. These Barneys lived in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and NE Pennsylvania, but some went to Missouri and Oklahoma. If you have anyone that might fit that scenario, I would be glad to see if they appear on my document.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to start, but a friend recommended I start looking on here.
I'm actually trying to find information on David Caleb Barney - possibly still alive, should be in his 50s or so I'm guessing, if he is alive. He served in the U.S. Navy and may have retired in the North/South Dakota area. I think his mother's name might be Angele. I remember vaguely that my middle name was from her name. I can't find anything on him on the net.
He spent some time stationed in California and Montana, but don't know where else or where he was born, or even when he was born.
I know of three kids of his(myself, and my sister and brother), and he probably may have had other children as well.
I'm looking for this info on him because I would like to know more about my family background. Circumstances prevented me from knowing much at all about my biological father and his side of the family. I figured now was as good a time as any to try to remedy that lack of knowledge.

surname: barney-baran

looking for information on the name barney-baran. my ggrandmother's death certificate lists her maiden name as barney - baran. there are plenty of baran family in the area (pennsylvania) but nothing on barney. i understand barney might be short for barnislaw? or branislaus but i am not certain about that. any information would be of great help. this family would have settled around pennsylvania, and some in the surrounding states and my direct ancestor came to america between 1900 and 1913. thanks. andjudoknow@yahoo.com

I have been searching for several years to find information on the Barney's in Oklahoma. My father, Edward C. Barney (b.1906 d. 1970) was the son of Edward C. Barney (born in either Illinois or Canada)-----my grandfather.

Grandfather Edward married a womam by the name of Laura Laroux (in Kansas). Three children were born to Edward and
Laura-----Lottie----Ida---Mary (I have the correct children but did not want to loose my thought by looking it up. I will if you
want it).

Laura died at an early age afterwhich Grand dad remarried
Anna Spring (Keokuk, Iowa). Anna was my Grand mother and my fathers mother. All together there were 12 children born to Edward (Grandfather).

If this is the family you are looking for, my father and Lottie
were step brothers and sisters. I can remember my Dad's speaking of Lottie numerous times (I met her only once).

Laura, Edward and Anna are all buried in the Bloomfield Cemetery, Seiling, Dewey County, Okla.

My grand father, Edward C. Barney had a brother that settled in Blackwell, Okla. region. He married a Mae White and had at least one son.

If this the family you are looking for, please E-Mail me. I
have the names of several other cousins in Okla that are members of the split family tree.

There is a grave in Seiling marked only "BARNEY". It is believed by some that this the grave of great grandfather
Barney------first name unknown, supposedly from France, born
in Quebec, Canada. Wife and marriage unknown.

Missing information could come from the decendants of Edwara and Laura--Lottie, ect.

I would like to hear from you.

Garold D.
Hi! I am trying to find info about my great grandfather Oscar BARNEY ALBRO born July 1850 in NY. I am beginning to think his middle name of BARNEY may have been a family name. Maybe his mother's maiden name. I do not know her first name. His father's name we were always told was Oliver. Does anyone have a female BARNEY in their line who married an ALBRO?
I found a Ethe M. BARNEY who married a George H. ALBRO in Cuyahoga, Ohio in 1856. I found them on the 1880 census also in NYC. Does anyone have any more info on them? His name and the date is wrong to be our Oliver; but you never know.
