The following I found on Automated Genealogy for the 1901 and 1911 Canada Censuses.

I found a John Leslie and his wife ‘Bella’, which could be a typo and should be “Della”.
John’s birthday is 26 May 1856; age: 44
Bella’s is on 12 Sep 1862; age: 38 (The 1911 Census has her name written as “Della”)

Children as per 1901 census:
- Hubert Leslie born 30 Jun 1887; age: 13 … which fits with John and Adella’s date of married
- Luva/Laura Leslie born 18 May 1888; age: 12 (Her name was recorded as Laura on the 1911 Census. Another typo?)
- Bertha Leslie born 9 Jan 1890; age: 11
- Muriel Leslie born 21 Mar 1906; Age: 5 (Birth date is March 1897 on the 1911 Census; she was 14 years old.)

As per the 1901 Census, living with them is Adella’s sister:
Josephine Barnhart born 11 Oct 1857; age: 43

Also living with the are several lodgers:
John B. Parham
John A MacDonald
John Montgomery
Charles H. Wilson
W. Herbert McManus
Reginald Fisk
George Shuter
John McPhail
William A. Sheridan … which leads me to think they may have owned an inn or small hotel or rooming house.

On the 1901 Census, they were living in St. Antoine Ward in Montreal … which is in the central part of Montreal(that’s my home town). The census states they were all born in Ontario, including Josephine Barnhart.

On the 1911 Census, they were living at 55 St. Famille Street in Montreal. They were followers of the Methodist religion and it looks like John Leslie worked in ‘transportation” but it is very hard to read.
- Hubert is a paper maker
- Laura is an assistant to ‘something - can’t make it out
- Bertha is working but I can’t make it out at all
- Muriel is in school.

Jan, I don't have a copy of her book, but do have a tree and some info. MY Grandfather Thomas Albert Barnhart is a brother to Aunt Ida. The youngest of the 16 children.

Gabriel and Mary are buried at:
White Oak cemetery on Rte 268 east of Keppel's (Kamerers) Corners, Butler County, PA, going toward Kittanning, Armstrong County, PA. It's on the corner of 268 and Trimbur Road, in the southeast corner of Fairview Twp., Butler County.
At one point his stone was broken off and lying next to the fence by the road.

POW/MIA Korean War BARNHART

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave York County, Pennsylvania as his home of record.

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

My Great Grandparents are John H. & Rebecca S. Wenger Barnhart. John H. was born 10/11/1859 in Rockingham County of VA. to Philip Barnhart who was an immigrant from Germany sometime around 1845. His wife was a Smith (Smitt) who was also an immigrant from the same area of Germany, (Darmstadt). His wife Rebecca S. Wenger was also born in Rockingham County of VA. and was the daughter of Abraham B. & Sarah Hartman Wenger.

John H. & Rebecca had 4 living children, Sarah C., Effie R, Abraham P., and my Grandfather Charles G. They had another child who died at birth along with his mother who had the German Measles and was not able to stand childbirth.

I hope this is helpful to you, but I supect that the John & Rebecca that you are searching for was another couple. If this is the same couple, I would be interested in hearing from you to compare notes.

They came over from England, Wales, Pull a map with with Barhardt name on Google and it will show you were they generated from and the percentage of where they lived. Also Scotland and Ireland was what I found.

Richard Rounds has indexed on Unlinked Barnhart's seven children from the Henry David Barnhart family: 1) William C. (b.1829); 2) Roxana M. (b. 1830); 3) Catherine Arminda (b.1833); 4) Jacob Davis (b.1836); 5) Benjamin Franklin (b.2838); 6) Hiram Henry (b.1841); and 8) Albert (b.1845).

Richard again helped my tie my ancestor George Barnhart (18928-1858) to Heindrich Barnhart (his grandfather) who married Elizabeth Van Curler. The connection is by virtue of a quote from Elizabeth Van Curler who referred to George Barnhart as her nephew (I am assuming that this term still applies to great nephews).

I have a strong suspicion that George Barnhart (1828-1858), said on census reports to have been born in Vermont, is the first son of Henry David Barnhart and Lydia Davis. He left Vermont or New York around 1845-1846 it seems, because he married Henrietta Woodard in McHenry County Illinois in 1846. He homesteaded land in Dayton, Waupaca County Wisconsin in 1850.

All the data on the children of George and Lydia seems tied to census reports from 1850 and later. I can't find a census report for 1840 in either New York or Vermont that ties George Barnhart to Henry David or anyone else. It seems to me that he must be the child of Henry David but I cannot prove it with a record of any type.

Does anyone have ideas or information about George Barnhart that I can use to prove his lineage? I mistakenly (I am now convinced) tied him to a George Barnard of Bennington County, Vermont. I don't want to make another leap of faith that can't be proven.

Pauline 'Polly' Barnhart, 84, died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at the Crestview Care and Rehabilitation Center in West Branch following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be at the West Branch United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scot Patrick officiating. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery.

Visitation will be from at the Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Memorials may be made to the Cookson Memorial Home in West Branch.

She was born Jan. 15, 1916 in Madison County, the daughter of Nelson and Hulda Haupt Welty. She graduated High School in Macksburg. She worked in the homes of other people for several years as well as a drug store and hotel. In 1943 she moved to West Branch to help an ill brother. On Sept. 6, 1947, she married Ivan Curtis Barnhart in Tipton. He died in 1970. Several years later, she moved to the Cookson home where she lived for more than 20 years.

She was a member of the West Branch United Methodist Church.

Survivors in include two daughters, Gwen and her husband, Mike, Kessler, of West Liberty and Connie Meyer of Cedar Rapids; and one son, David Barnhart of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan; one son, Dennis; four brothers, Merle, Lawrence, Robert and an infant brother, John.

Mabel Meredith Barnhart, 81, of West Branch, formerly of Tipton, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Branch, following a long illness.

Services are at the Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. The Rev. DeLane Wright will officiate. Pallbearers are Bruce Barnhart, Rich Mayhew, Dave Barnhart, Clarence Crew, Chuck Donohoe, Greg Tucker and Mike Kessler. Burial will be at the Tipton Masonic Cemetery in Tipton.

She was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Tipton, the daughter of Preston Elwood Sheets and Bertha Wolfe. She married Harold Barnhart June 1, 1944, in Tipton.

She attended Tipton High School and Tipton Community College.

She was a housewife, teacher and mother.

She was a member of the Tipton United Methodist Church, Springdale Self-Culture Club and the Springdale United Methodist Women's Group.

Survivors include her husband, Harold; a daughter, Jerie Schwartz and her husband, Gary, of Ames; two sons, Dan Barnhart and his wife, Nancy, of Iowa City and Tom Barnhart of West Branch; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack Sheets of Fort Myers, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Bobby.

Marion Barnhart, 83, Nichols, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at his home after an extended illness.

Services are at the Nichols United Methodist Church. The Rev. Betsey Neipert will officiate. Burial will be at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or the Nichols United Methodist Church.

Mr. Barnhard was born on Nov. 25, 1919, in West Liberty, the son of Harvey and Clara Smith Barnhart. He married Marcella Neff on Dec. 27, 1941, in Nichols.

He was a graduate from Nichols High School in 1937.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aerial gunnery instructor.

He had been a farmer and he and his wife owned and operated Barnhart Insurance Agency, Nichols, for 25 years.

He was a member of the Nichols United Methodist Church since age 12, where he was a board member and taught Sunday school for 46 years. He was member of Iowa and Eastern Iowa Angus Association including 16 years as secretary and sales manager and two years as state sales manager. He was also a member and past president of West Liberty Lions Club for 35 years and a Muscatine County Fair Board member and past president.

His family was the most important thing to him and he got the most satisfaction from being involved in and watching the growth and successes of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Marianne Phelps and her husband, Dean, of Nichols, Kay Rewerts and her husband, Steve, of Waterloo and Wendy Beaver and her husband, Tom, of Coralville; a son, Keith Barnhart and his wife, Margaret, of Atalissa; 10 grandchildren, Doug Phelps and his wife, Pam, Mike Phelps, Marla Matlock and her husband, Aaron, Scott Barnhart, Kyle Barnhart and Melissa Barnhart, Susan Relland and her husband, Michael, Mary Watkins and her husband, Bryce, Greg Beaver and Marc Beaver; and six great-grandchildren, Tanner, Payton, Briana, Denton, Celia and Lily.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, 2907 Mulberry Ave. Reverend Jeff Kellog will officiate. Casket bearers will be Jason Ganzer, Mike Taylor, Matt Reimers, Ben Reimers, Bill Reimers and Terry McCleary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Michelle Linn Barnhart was born on December 9, 1959, the daughter of Weldon and Gloria Rahlf Barnhart.

She was a member of the Eagles. Michelle loved being with her children and loved her family very much. She enjoyed chatting on Yahoo and had many good friends.

She worked at Tire and Lube at Wal-Mart as a service writer.

Michelle will be deeply missed by son, Travis Parent and his fiance, Gina Lundt, of Muscatine; two daughters, Andrea Arlen and her husband, Tom, of Dubuque and Danielle Reimers of Muscatine; her parents, Weldon and Gloria Barnhart of Muscatine; one former step-daughter, Tabatha Reimers and her children, Tylor and Takoma Staley of Muscatine; one brother, Clifton Barnhart and special friend, Charlotte Martin, of Muscatine; and two grandchildren, Xaiver and Dominick Parent.

She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.

MUSCATINE, Iowa
Gloria G. Barnhart, 84, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the Unity Hospital.

Service will be at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. The Rev. Gertie Nickols will officiate. Following the interment a time of food and fellowship will be held at the High Prairie United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.

Gloria was born on January 13, 1925, in Muscatine, the daughter of Henry and Dorothy Louise Berntheisel Rahlf. She married Weldon E. Barnhart on May 29, 1949, in Muscatine, Iowa.

She taught elementary school in the Muscatine Country Schools and later taught in the city school system. She was an avid artist and was an art teacher in Muscatine and at Gloria’s Crafts and Gifts store that she owned and operated.

She and Weldon wintered in Texas for 26 years where she also taught art until 2007. She was a member and very active in Artists in Action for many years.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Weldon Barnhart of Muscatine; a son, Clifton Barnhart of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Travis Parent, Andrea Arlen and Danielle Reimers; a brother, Henry Rahlf and wife, Phyllis; and a sister, Margaret Boldt.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Michelle Barnhart.

I am looking for the marriage date of John (Johannes) Adam Barnhart and Elizabeth Dill. John born 1760 and Elizabeth 1764 both in PA.
I believe John served in the Revolutionary War.
Also would like John's parents' names.
Their son Michael b. 1786 is my direct line.

I am related to a Pearl and Espey Ringler. I would have to research my paperwork, but I do remember my parents speaking of them at our Ringler Reunions many years ago. They were from Pa. My family was from Johnstown, Pa.

I am looking for information on my Great Grandfather Milton Barnhart born about 1854. He lived in York county PA and have two sons John H(iram) and Charles. I have found a Milton living in York at this time but I cannot connect him to my Grandfather John H.
