Hi Marilyn,
This is your cousin Connie and I do have Julius's obit and will send it to you. I am not sure if I have it on a PDF or not. I also have his papers that he filed before WWI indicating he did not support Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany. I also have a copy of all of the census, his death certificate and various other papers, including his ship arrival information. I can't remember where you live, I am thinking WA, but I am going to be in Jud on the 4th of July and will copy everything and bring it with me. If you are not going to be there let me know what your address is and I will copy and mail them.

Connie Hicks Mazerov (daughter of Laura Barnick)

My name is Bob Rohla, my great-grandfather was Julius Barnick. My grandfather Herman Barnick was his son. My mom Lavern Barnick Rohla died recently, and I have run across an obituary for Julius Barnick. It states that Julius and Othelia were married in 1876 and had eight children. Emma (Dix), Ed, Fred, Pauline (Tessmer), Herman, Tenna (Bierley), Bill and Louie. It also says that Julius and Othelia homesteaded in Lester Prairie for 15 years before moving to Buffalo Lake, MN and then to Jud ND in 1906.

Hi Don, this was one of our last communications. Since I sent this message to you we have made some serious inroads into our mysterious Julius. We finally found out that he came to the US with his mother and step father. The immigration records were in his step father's name, so that is why we could never locate his family. He did come to the US with his mother and a sister, Wilhelmine who also went by the Barnick name. If your cousin would like to hear more please let me know.

Connie

Hi Don,

Thanks for the information on Kaiser and Monica. Kaiser was my mother's brother. Monica was a wonderful woman. They lived in Nortonville when I was a child and I use to see them quite alot. Kaiser took over my grandma's store in Nortonville when she was in her 70's. Monica and Kaiser had three children that lived. Judy, who was a few years younger than I am died about 5 or 6 years ago. Bill is still living I am not sure about the youngest Betsy.

I have another connection to the Crist family. Monica's brother Vincent Crist married my cousin Dolores Johnson(who was the oldest daughter of Alice Barnick (Kaiser's sister). Dolores and Vince Christ had about 4 kids I think. Vicky, Diane and then a couple of boys I believe. They divorced many years ago but Dolores is still living in Jamestown, ND and I just saw her last year when I was there for the Barnick reunion which we have every couple of years in Jud. Out of a family of 8 children, William Julius Barnick and Orianna Miracle Barnick have 2 children who are still living - my aunt Ilene Wolff (Jud) and aunt Ethel Hanson (Devils Lake).

I am somewhat stumped on the father of William Julius Barnick (who was my grandfather). His name was Julius and he was born in Germany or Prussia - Mitschow is where his letter of Intention says. Of course, it does not exist anymore and he was not literate, so I am not sure if the name is spelled correctly. I have never been able to find out who his parents were.

If you need any information on the Barnicks and the names, dates and places of birth of any of Monica's or Vincent's children I will be happy to send you the information. I am in the middle of a move right now so do not have access to my genealogy at this time as I am changing internet providers too.

Connie
Tracey,
I would love to talk to you about the Barnick Family here in Michigan. I myself am a Barnick. I have started some Geneology "work" on my grandfather and grandmother, but have not done much with it for about a year and a half or so. It seemed as if I ran into road blocks if you will. :)

Hi Connie,

Thanks for the great response. I didn't realize yuo lived amongst the ancestors! Great information and thank you.

Just as a note, my dad (Kinney/Grand Rapids/16 children) and my mom (Reader/Grandview/16) and I (baby Donald/Berlin/3) left North Dakota in 1946 and settled in
Washington State. The Kinney farm closed down in 1964, Readers in 1938, so not many there from our family.

Monica's mom Edna was the only one I never met, but so it goes. Most of both families live in Washington, a few in Alaska, but you get the idea: they didn't like farning alot.

So when you here from me, I'm looking at the census and the obits and family pictures, etc., but I probably wasn't around when it happened. Most of my 101 1st-cousins are doing well or not, depending.

Wish I could help you with Julius, but don't know where to
start.

Thanks, and keep me in mind. I may have info on a relative your looing for.

Don

Julius Barnick

My great grandfather was Julius Barnick who was born in Germany on Oct 10, 1854 and died in Glenco, McLeod Co., MN Feb 3, 1932. He and his wife Othelia Krenz were married in MN but lived most of their married life in North Dakota. Othelia died in 1915 and he returned to MN where he married Augusta Putfaul in 1916 and Christona Letzsio in 1922. I have a copy of his Letter of Intent which he filed prior to World War I indicated he had no loyalty to Emperor Wilhelm which indicates he was born in Mitschow, Germany and arrived in 1861 from Bremen. Does anyone know where Mitschow, Germany is located?

Barnick surname

I have an Ernestine Barnick (b. 27 Oct 1827 in Germany, d. 3 Sep 1910 in Town of Milford, Jefferson Co., Wisconsin). She married August F. Schmidt (b. 1 May 1825 in Gottpin, Preusen, Brandenberg, d. 1 Dec 1890 in Town of Milford, Jefferson Co., WI), date place of marriage unknown.
One of their daughters, Auguste Schmidt, married Theodore Gerbig on 8 Jan 1883 in Milford, WI. They are my great grandparents. Later, they moved to Waupaca or Shawano County, WI near Marion. This is where my grandfather and father were born.
Last weekend I was in Marion noticed several prominent buildings with "Barnick" written on them. One was Barnick Builders, the other was on a barn had Barnick Sons in large print. I have not had an opportunity to discuss the Barnick ancestry with any of the Barnicks in Marion, WI, but hope to very soon.
Please let me know if you think there are connections with the Barnicks in any of these locations. Thanks. I have very limited information--just what I have indicated here. Marie

Julius Barnick - MN

I am looking for information on the family of Julius Barnick. Julius was born in 1854 in Westprice, Germany. I understand it is near Berlin. I have no information on his immigration to the US but he married Othelia Caroline Krenz in 1876 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Henderson, MN. Othelia died in 1915 and he remarried Augusta Putfaul in 1916 who died in 1922 and remarried Christona Letzsio in 1922. Julius died in 1933 in Glenco, MN but was buried in Jud, ND. His children were Emma 1877, Edward 1878, Frederick 1881, Pauline 1882, Frank 1884, Ernestine 1885, William Julius 1887 (my grandfather) and Ludwig Theodore 1890 all of who were born in Lester Prairie, MN. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any information on Julius.

Connie

My gr-grandfather was Carl Barnick, b. abt 1834. His wife was Johanna or Anna Pauleask, b. abt 1832 (can't find this surname on any search engine). From obituaries and US census records I have learned they came to Saginaw, Michigan in 1872. I would like to find where they came form in Germany plus any more ancestors and extended family. Their children were Wilhelmina, Augusta, Lena, Mary, August, Christian, and Frank. Carl was brick mason in 1880 Saginaw. Have no record of where or when he and Anna died.

Hi,

I am a descendant of Ernestine(a), nee Barnick, and August F. (maybe C. August) Schmidt. They settled in Town of Milford, Jefferson Co., WI. Records show that husband was born in Gottpin, Preussen, Brandenburg Province, Germany. I don't know where in Germany the couple married. They are buried on Hwy A in Village of Grelton, Jefferson Co., WI.

There is more information posted elsewhere on the Barnick message board site.

My email address is: mgsiferd@hotmail.com

Please let me know if you have anything that may connect your Barnick family with mine.
Barnick / Barnich surname in Wisconsin, USA

Hi,

I have visited your website and find it very interesting and extensive. I have not found much about my Barnick ancestors, so you may have given me some good leads to follow.

I live in Monona, Wisconsin near Madison, the state capitol.

So far I have not found a direct connection between my Barnick family and the Barnick families in Marion, WI. However, I feel very confident that there is a link between the two locations. My Barnick-Schmidt descendants married into the families of: Yandre/Vandre, Mevis/Mewis/Mavis, Gerbig/Gerbeg/Gerbich, Luther ( Kreitzman Jaeck), Hehmann/Hehrman, and Weber. Some of these families remained in the Watertown, WI area (mostly in Jefferson and Dodge Counties), WI. Others moved to Marion area (Waupaca and Shawano Counties) in WI. At lease one family moved to Madison, Dane County, WI.

It is thought that the parents of my Ernestine(a) Barnick were Edward and Ernestine (??) Barnick. She was born either 27 Oct 1827 or 1829, perhaps in Germany. The family was Moravian.

Hope this helps a little. I plan on doing more research in Marion this summer.

Marie (mgsiferd@hotmail.com)

Wife Maria arrived in l850 with rest
of their children. Among those children were Margaret
Barnich who married Jacob Glasaner(Glasner) in
l853.
