Hello,

I'm looking for the dates of birth and death, and place of death, for David Barnum, son of Francis Barnum and Deborah Hoyt, per Jacobus, _Families of Old Fairfield_, 1:33.

Since his parents were married in 1712/13, and David married Charity Lake in 1747, David was probably born ca 1718.

David Barnum lived in Kent, Litchfield County for many years, and was there for the 1798 Direct Tax and the 1800 census. I can't find a record of where or when he died, or a probate record for him.

I'd be grateful for any information.

Thanks!
Judi Watson
I was trolling through the dunmire web page and caught your letter to Elaine/Jennifer. she and I corresponded for some time but i have lost contact with her. I have written to your mother, Ann, by introduction from Mary Ann Stinson. I met Hazel several years ago and really fell in love with the old girl. she came and visited me here in texas once and we were together several times for Dunmire genealogy weekends in Pa. I flew up to Minn. for her 100th birthday a year ago. She was so happy and her mind was strong and filled with memories. I think her having the 100th was the highlight of her light and then she just quit.
I am writing a history of the Dunmire family up until the present.i have done alot of research and think it will be an interesting story.
Please contact me.
Ann
agatha1@flash.net

Charles William (1851-?) and Mary Nichols Barnum (1855-?) of Lime Rock, Salisbury, CT

Seeking information about Charles William Barnum (1851-?) and his wife Mary Nichols (1855-?)of Lime Rock, Salisbury, Litchfield, CT. I know Charles' parents were William Henry Barnum (1818-1889) and Charlotte Anne Burrall (1819-1889). My interest in this family is because of Charles William's wife Mary Nichols. Mary was the daughter of George Huntington Nichols/Nicholls (1818-1902) and Julia Louisa Phelps (1818-1892) George Huntington Nichol(l)s was a younger brother of my maternal 3rd great grandmother Ann Eliza Johnson nee Nichols (1813-1894) and author of a Nicholls and related families genealogy. I have visited the George Huntington Nichols family plot in Hoosick Falls, NY. I am looking for information on when William Henry and Mary Nichols Barnum died and where they might be buried. Mary Nichols Barnum likely died between 1910 and 1920 in Lime Rock. Charles William likely died after 1920 in Lime Rock. I stopped yesterday at the cemetery in Limerock and found the grave of Charles William and Mary's infant child, who lived for only three days in May 1882, buried in the William Henry Barnum (WHB) family plot. One side of the WHB monument was very hard to read, so it is possible Charles William and Mary might also be buried here though I think the monument has another son of William Henry, William Milo, noted on the side of the monument I had trouble reading. Any assistance on Charles William and Mary Nichols Barnum will be appreciated.

I have a considerable volume of information about William BARNHAM (1651-1718) on my website at www.barnum.org. Unfortunately, none of it really helps to pinpoint the blazoning of arms that you mentioned.

William was a son of John BARNHAM and Sarah HARTLEY, and himself married four times, to Margaret WYNDHAM, Rebekah MIDDLETON, Rebekah BEACON/BACON and Mary FLOWERDEW. Unfortunately, the blazoning that you mention doesn't match the conventional arms of any of those surnames.

Patrick

Patrick - Delighted to hear from you. I had previously discovered the Barnum website. My query was in hopes that something new might have been uncovered. I have a family letter from the early 1900s that indicates my relative Phebe Queal Terpening had a half-sister Silva. I visited the area where Phebe was born (Summit NY) last year. Did not find much, but did discover that George S. Queal (who I believe was Phebe's father) was married earlier and had two sons. Timeline would indicate that Phebe is child of second wife. Silva or Sylvia could be child of second or third wife. There was definitely a final wife who outlived George. I connected with a descendent of the second son. Would you be interested in what I have on these probable older siblings of Sylvia? - Suzan

I have your grandfather listed as Joseph Lee BARNUM (1911-1988) and I also have information for several generations of his ancestors. I haven't yet found the connection of this line of descent to the immigrant ancestor Thomas BARNUM (1625-1695), so I can't tell you the exact relationship to P.T. BARNUM. Although P.T. had four daughters, he had no sons, so the members of our family in North America are his distant cousins, not direct descendants.
Hi! Dave, I have her in my genealogy as Helen RANDLE, wife of Rev. Henry Samuel BARNUM (1837-1915), a missionary in Constantinople (Istanbul), and mother of Henry Huntington BARNUM (1877-1939), head of the mathematics department at Robert College in Istanbul. I would certainly be interested in seeing a copy of the document that you mention. Thanks! Patrick

Try www.barnum.org, Patrick Barnum has a great deal of information on the family. I believe most of the Barnums in this country decend from Thomas Barnum who settled in Connecticut in 1640 at age 15. So most everyone in the American branch of the Barnum family is related in some distant way to P.T. Barnum. All of the Josephs in my husband's line are before 1796. I do show a Joseph Barnum III born 3 Dec 1755 with a death date of Apr 1799 but I have no wife or family for him. His parents were Col. Joseph Barnum II and Keziah Barnum. I do not know her maiden name.

I seek: parentage of Gideon BARNUM. Gideon died 1818 Danby VT. Barnabas BARNUM, son of Gideon, born Danby VT 1775 or 1783 (online confusion). Barbabas' sibling Rhoda b. 1780 here? (Danby VT). Gideon BARNUM believed born Bet. 1716 - 1723, but it's not in V.R. of Danbury CT. Some say Gideon's father is John. Online it looks like Ebenezer (1682-1755). Gideon married 1739, 1757, 1768. I am tracing the 1768 Kent CT marriage with Elizabeth MERRY. Looking for answers.

Hello,

I'm looking for information about David BARNUM (sometimes spelled Barnam) who was in the 1800 census in Kent, Litchfield County, CT (p. 93) age 45 or older, with a female age 45 or older. This is probably the David Barnum who married Charity LAKE in Kent in 1747. I don't find a gravestone for him in Hale. Where is he buried, and when did he die? Based on the date of his marriage, he was probably a least 73 at the time of the 1800 census.

Is there any proof that the David Barnum Jr. who married Rachel HOYT in 1793 in Kent is his son? I have not been able to find a record of David Jr.'s birth in the Genealogical Publishing Company book of the Barbour records for Kent.

Thanks,
Judi Watson

Grave of William Barnham, Ranworth - coat of arms

I wonder whether anyone can help me identify a coat of arms. William Barnham is buried in St. Helen's church, Ranworth. His tombstone reads "Here resteth ye body of William Barnham late of ye city of Norwich gen who died June ye 19th 1718 aged 66 years. Also ye body of Mary ye beloved wife of ye said William Barnham who died ye 17th of August 1720 aged 46 years."
The Barnham coat of arms is impaled with another blazon - a chevron ermine between three fleur de lis. The engraver has not followed the normal convention of shading so it is impossible to know the tincture of this blazon.
His wife was Mary Flowerdew but this does not appear to be the Flowerdew coat of arms. Can anyone help identify this?

I just started researching my family tree My father is Herbert Barnum but was later adopted by his step father after his mother Helen Bolanowski remarried. My Grandfather's name is Joseph Barnum. I have his date of death for 1988 he died in Chulavista, CA. I don't talk to my father much cause he always changes the subject when talking about the Barnum side but it has always been told that P.T Barnum is a Great Great Grandfather to me. I am also like you and can't seem to find the connection. I will try one more time to find out more. I am now really insterested in finding out. I hope this information can help you some.
Hi Diane,
I am Mrs. Dallas Hertz; he is a grandson of Cora Chester Hertz. Are you Olive Ford's daughter? I am also looking for Aaron Barnum of Lockport, NY. My info absolutely agrees with yours except the Samuel Chester. You could possibly be correct, but I proved the line of William Brewster (Mayflower) to Dallas. I have my research of the direct line; the Mayflower Society accepted my research and proof. Are you interested in seeing this info?
As an aside, the NYgenweb pages for the North Bangor Cemetery do list Robert and Emily as buried there in the same plot.

Emily, Talmadge, Elijah and Polly Barnum - Franklin County, NY

Hello from Winter Park, near Orlando, Florida.

I am working on a connection to the Barnum family with a brick wall of sorts. Most of my Lee family roots are in Franklin County, New York, and as you know, there are many Barnums located in the North Bangor cemetery there.

My Great Great Grandfather’s (Newell F. Lee) grandmother was an Emily Barnum, b. abt 1813-1815 and married in 1836. The following statement I culled from the Franklin County Marriages info on the NYGEN page online

“ Barnum, Emily Oct. 19, 1836 Robert Gibson he was a farmer from Bangor ae 28; she was a cook from Bangor ae 22. Witnesses: Elijah Barnum, Talmage Barnum, Polly Barnum, and Sophronia Parmelee.(Sophronia is a family member of the minister) (she lived 1814-1871 and is buried at North Bangor)”

Although there are several Emilys, Talmages and Elijahs in those parts, I cant deduce who belongs to whom, and figure out who Emily’s parents were, who Polly is (a sister or wife of either gentleman.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to offer. I suspect the answers are staring me in the face and I just need another cup of coffee!
I would be happy to share any additional information about my tree from Emily’s line.

Chris Lee
Winter Park, Florida
