Thank you for the helpful information. I didn't know that William Barr had a 1st wife. You mentioned an older brother that was the son of Leah Wilkens. What is his name and info? My family is from the Monticello, Jasper, Georgia area. I noticed a few marriages from the two areas and wondered where the connection came from. I know my father's aunt Myrtle I. Reeves was from Pike, Alabama as well.
Britton stayed in Lawrence, Jasper, Georgia and died there I assume. According to the last census report on him, in 1870 (there was a transcription error and he was listed as Brittain Obarr), he was 67. Britton/Brittain (I have seen both spellings) had 8 children with his 2nd wife, Mildred Gwin. His first wife, Luvina Pruden, he married in Gates, North Carolina. No children that I am aware of but I have not researched this. If you go to my cousins public tree, Michael Bell, you will find Brittain listed with his children. Mary Ann Barr 1828-1918, William James Barr 1833-1903, James W Barr 1834-1904, Jane (I have seen on other genealogy sites as Martha or Mary Jane) 1835-1916, Elizabeth Barr 1838, Nancy Barr 1842, John H Barr 1845 and Tracey (or Teresa)Barr 1851-1921. Also another relative, on the Huff side, Eleanor Watson has a public tree for the Barr Family.
Thank you so much for the information. Keep it coming if you have more. I am interested in the Alabama link. I only have a little bit of time to dedicate to genealogy but I love it.
