I just learned you can type in a name and low and behold the internet knows you. I thought this article on James Barr of Renfrewshire interesting since my dad and his dad were James Barr of Renfrewshire and my dad was a "joiner" (patternmaker and worked at Kincaid's in Greenock. His father James Barr was Provost of Greenock and a what els I don't really know, probably worked with "wood", he died in 1940 at age 56. He was born on Dumbarton Rock in Scotland from what I was told when we visited ther one of very few born there. My dad was born in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland in the year 1913 and passed in Largs in 1996. He married Ella (Helen) McMillan in 1936, came to Canada after the war in 1948 to Brantford, Ontario...then to Parma, Ohio Michigan, California and back to Ohio and then mom was killed in 1974 and dad went back to Greenock and then to Largs. The reason I am sending this is because I am reading the names of the family members and it is like reading my family. James Barr had brothers Robert, Nathanial and I do believe John. My dad, James Barr had William, Jack, Stanley, Robert and Ellis, Margaret, Evelyn. Grandpa Barr married Margaret Dalrymple and my dad married into the McMillan family.
My parents had James, Archie, Mary (Myra)Margaret and Evelyn. Jim stayed in Canada (RCMP)Myra and Margaret are in Ohio, Evelyn and Archie deceased. I am Margaret and I am 71 years young.

Even the name Pettigrew is familiar to me from Scotland.

I just thought I would write to you and let you know there is another family with quite a few James Barr's in it.

I am interested in finding John Dalrymple from the 1600's that my granny Margaret Dalrymple Barr said we wer related to and she said he was of royalty. I do believe he was the Earl of Stair and he was the one who went in with the Campbell's and "slew" the McDonalds hence the song "Glencoe". BUT, I can't seem to get the information I wanted from "Ancestry" so I didn't continue to be a member. It could be I am just not that educated enough in "digging".

I just had to reach out and give you this info from Margaret Dalrymple Barr Ellinwood or maybe I just want to stand up and be counted you know what "they" say "it's all about me" just kidding.
