Catharine Barr born 1802 of Decatur County, GA

I am trying to locate the parents of Catharine Barr, born September 22, 1802. She was the second wife of David J. Bozeman. They were married in about 1836. Catharine is said to have been "of Decatur County, GA". David J. Bozeman lived in Jefferson County, FL at the time of their marriage. She died 1840-1850, probably in Jefferson County, FL. That is all that is known of her.

Based on circumstantial evidence, I believe that Catharine Barr had a brother by the name of Thomas G. Barr. Thomas G. Barr married 1st, Elizabeth G. Bozeman, sister of David J. Bozeman in Houston County, GA on February 07, 1826. He married 2nd, Mary Louisa Bozeman, 1st cousin of David J. Bozeman in Stewart County, GA on October 22, 1850.

Also, based on circumstantial evidence, I believe that one or more of the following men may have also been brothers of Catharine Barr:

John G. Barr, born January 07, 1794 in SC.
Bartlet S. Barr, born about 1795 in SC.
Roger D. Barr, born about 1803 in SC.

Can anyone confirm that any one or more of these four men were brothers?
Can anyone confirm that Catharine Barr was the sister of any one or more of these four men?
Does anyone know who the parents of Catharine Barr may have been?

Steve
Barrs from Ballymena, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland

My family line extends through
the generations as follows: Roy Barr, Robert Barr, James Alexander Barr,
Adam Barr, James Barr, Samuel Barr. Samuel has been the furthest I can get
back to. However Samuel Barr had a son called Thomas and also a son called
Archibald. It was common practice in Ireland to either name a son after his
uncle or his father.

Our family have belonged to Connor Presbyterian church for over 150 years so
we are long associated with the area.

If anyone has any queries or siminlar names please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Barrs in PA an enigma wraped in a mystery

upon researching my family tree on my fathers side, I have become increasingly amazed at the amount of Barrs that can search thier lines to PA and then run into dead ends! I have done the same I have searched my line back to Samuel Barr born in Butler County PA april 17 1829. He married Sara Jane Vaughn who was born in Butler Co. PA oct. 25 1840. I have come to dead ends trying to find out who his father is. Furhter more it seems that there are many many Barrs in Pa at this time and they all seem to have similar names. My Father says that his Father always thought his family was from England... I can find the Barr name in Ireland, Scotland, and Germany. It would tickle me pick to be able to trace this side of the family back to its origin and hopfully find a family crest or tartan or anything of the sort. any info would help. I have my side of the family line up to Samuel Barr 1829 anyone needing info can contact me at barr20@home.com

One of the Barr sons dies in a Union Prison and I believe there was a 3rd that fought as well. Marshal never marries and lives with his widowed sister, C.

I am trying to locate Jane BARR, daughter of Robert BARR and Jannet
PETTIGREW. She was born 6 September 1823, Houston, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
She emigrated with her family in June 1827, to Ormstown, Beauharnois (Now
Chateauguay) County, Quebec, Canada. She married before 1851, but the name
of her spouse is unknown, and I have been unable to locate a marriage record
to date. They emigrated to England, where she died before 1895, when a
biographical sketch was published on her brother James.

One family source has it that she married a George PATTON. There is a Jane
BARR PATTON who died 10 June 1888. The death record does not identify her
parents, but does state that she was a native of Houston, Renfrewshire.

Another Jane BARR PATTON, wife of a George PATTON, died 19 March 1888, but
she was aged 84 years.

dick barr
Syracuse, New York, USA

I was never able to meet him before he passed away in May of 1980. Unfortunately my mother refused to speak of him. She passed away in 1981. So now I am left with a lot of questions and very few answers. I know Clarence was in the Navy and stationed in Corpus Christi, TX. in the early 1960's. He was transferred from there to Newport RI. He died in Brockton Mass. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I believe his mother's first name was Anna. I don't know his father's. Thanks,
Shanna

I am searching for more info on my gg grandfather George L Barr. I know he died in between 1895 and 1900. I believe he is buried in the mt pleasent cemetery in Westmoreland County PA. I know the info on his wife Mary Ann Markle and their 3 children but I am trying to get his birthday, death date and info on his parents. I have found a George Barr on the 1880 census living in South Huntingdon Westmoreland county with parents and siblings. The 1962 date of birth would seem to fit but I am not for sure this is him.

Also does anyone know of a website that would allow me to view names of people buried in the mt pleasent cemetery?

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

John Barr

In 1782 a John Barr of Lancaster County, PA died. His brother in law, William Watson, was named administer. In March of 1783 John Slaymaker was named guardian of 4 of John Barr's severly young children, namely, Isabella, Sarah, Samuel and John. In 1787 William Watson gave his final accounting and the judge ordered the excess 86 pounds be divided amoungst the four children.
Obviously John had a sister. There is no mention of other children or his wife. Does anyone know more about this John Barr, his wife, other children or these children? I am looking for the parents of my ggg grandfather Samuel E Barr, born in December 1778. Could this John be his father? The age would be about right for Samuel, the other childrens name are names of Samuels children and Samuels first born son was named John Watson Barr. Is this a coincidence or good evidence.
Thanks for any help.
Jim Barr

Many of the Barr's below Jackson are desendents of Umphrey Griffin Barr (UG) who was named after Humphrey Griffin of Nansemond, Virginia. Umphrey was born in Jasper, GA in 1831. His father Isaac was born in Gates County, North Carolina along with his uncles William, Britton, James, John Wright and his aunt Nancy. His grandfather William died in 1823. Isaac and his son UG moved to Pike Co., Alabama where the extended family settled. UG moved on to Choctaw Co., and then to Smith Co., Mississippi. Much of that family now have their roots in Raliegh, Magee, and Mize Mississippi.

M.F. & Catherine Barr- Arvonia Cemetery

I am searching for ancestors of the M.F. & Catherine Barr (1826-1884) family. She is buried at Arvonia Cemtery, Osage Co., KS.

I am working on a book for the Osage Co., KS Historical Society that will cover the people who are buried at the Arvonia Cemetery, located near Arvonia, KS. I would like to include birth-death-burial dates, parents & siblings, cause of death and any interesting family information; such as where they came from, military history, family lore, occupations, etc. I will NOT be listing any birth dates of living individuals and any information used will be the type that is easily accessible by anyone.

I have a list of burials that is a compiled list from two different sources but it only covers up through the early 1990’s. I hope to complete this list to include all burials up until now.

If you would like to add any information to your ancestor/family member’s listing, please contact me directly at newtonmac@msn.com . Please type “Arvonia Cemetery” in the subject line so I don’t miss your email. With 800+ burials, I cannot list all the names here so I’m listing the surnames. If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to help. Keep in mind that most of the ladies are buried under their married names. If you’re not sure if your family member is buried in Arvonia, contact me and I’ll check for you.

Albert, Angles, Antrim, Atchison, Austin, Hart, Bailey, Barnett, Barr, Bebb, Behrendt, Benson, Blake, Bontz, Booth, Boring, Bosley, Botkin, Boyce, Briggs, Brower, Bugg, Campbell, Chambers, Clark, Clotfelter, Cosley, Cottrell, Cowden, Crabtree, Crippen, Davies, Davis, Decker, Dobson, Edison, Edwards, Elishan, Ellis, Evans, Felton, Ferguson, Frye, Funston, Gavin, Goodwin, Graham, Gray, Griffith, Griffiths, Hamman, Harris, Harvey, Hebbe, Henry, Herr/Haerr, Hilding, Hillis, Holmquist, Hooper, Hotchkiss, Hughes, Humphreys, Jenkins, Jennings, Jensen, Jeremy, Jernigan, Jessee, Jones, Kesler, King, Kirk, Knight, Larson, Leach, Lewis, Lloyd, Lowman, Maloney, Marker, Mays, Metzger, Miller, Mochamer, Monfort, Moore, Morgan, Morris, Moses, Near, Nesbitt, Newlee, Newman, Newton, Ormsby, Owens, Padgett, Parker, Parrey, Parry, Peterson, Pettay, Phillips, Pickens, Powell, Prentice, Price, Protheroe, Rees, Reynolds, Rich, Richards, Roberts, Robinson, Rouland, Rumph, Samuel, Sanderson, Schedel, Shepard, Shirley, Sloan, Small, Smith, Southworth, Spillman, Standiferd, Stephens, Sterrett, Still, Tankersley, Terril, Terrion, Thomas, Thompson, Trueblood, Umdenstock, Walker, Wallace, Ward, Watkins, Whaner, Whildin, White, Williams, Williamson, Wilson, Witherspoon, Woodin

Anita (Newton) McKinney
Colorado Springs, CO
Lester Barr

Hi guys!

I'm looking for ANY information anyone may have for a Lester Barr from Ohio. I think he was born or grew up in Marion Center, Ohio. I haven't found anything about him on any of the free sites.
All I know about him is his birthday was October 9th or so, and I don't know a year. I'm guessing the 1920's or '30's. He died around 1983-1985, he was in Midland, PA at the time of his death. He was married to Zana who died around the summer of 1988, also in Midland, PA.

I think he was an only child and I think he and his wife Zana had about 5 children. Some of their children's names include Helen, Josephine and Harry. I think there were 2 or 3 other children as well, I just don't know their names.

Lester was in the military in WWII, I think Army. I have pictures he was said to have taken in France and I think he may have been a paramedic. Again, I'm not too sure about that either.

As far as I know, he cut off ties with his family due to some kind of a disagreement at a funeral around 1948-1950.

I'm looking for any kind of information or advice anyone may have in researching him. Currently, I don't have the time or money to actually travel anywhere to do any research (hopefully, that'll change in the next month or 2).
I also don't have any information about Zana other than her maiden name and the name of the town/city she was originally from.

Any information or advice would be very helpful...Thanks in advance!
Cassandra

HI to everyone that has the Barr message board in there Alerts, and to all the subscribers of the Barr mailing list. I'm Russell Livingston (Russ) the new Admin for both, List & Board. I've been posting to both list and board since 2000. To try and get more interest, I have had the Gateway turned on. Now whenever someone posts to the message board it will also go to the mailing list. So if you subscribe to the Barr mailing list and also have the alerts enabled for the Barr message board you will get two messages. You can turn off your alerts for the Barr board and will now get everything, message board posts and mailing list posts in you list emails. A post from the message board will say "This Message Board Post is gatewayed to this mailing list." And you will see the address as (gc-gateway (at) rootsweb.com). So if you want to reply to that poster you will need to go to the message board. That link is right there above the message. If some of you list subscribers have strong feelings about this, please let know. My email address is located in the board info area, or from the mailing list just click on the Board Admin link. If the feelings are negitive, I ask that you please give it a little time and we will see how it works out. For now I'm going to moderate the message board posts. I will be notified whenever a board post comes in and will read it before I let it post to the mailing list. Shortly I will post my Barr line, (mothers side), and will call for a Roll Call. If you have anyother Q&A's please let me know.
Good searching. Russ

I bought these at a Flea Market and would like to give them to a Family member.

Searching for information on Richard Barr (abt 1827 Leeds, Yorkshire, Eng)and Ann Walker (abt 1826 Yorkshire, Eng) and their anc/dec. Married 1849, Leeds, Yorkshire, Eng.

Children are names and birth dates are notes as:
Elizabeth Ann Barr 1850
John William Walker Barr 1851
Emma Barr 1854
Isabell Barr 1856
Richard Barr 1858
Ellen Walker Barr 1859
Richard Barr 1861
Robert Edwin Barr 1863
Maria Barr 1864
Frank Barr 1865
Annie Barr 1867
Frederick Barr 1869

Apparently, at the time of her death in 1876 (Obley, NSW, Australia) Ann and Richard had 5 living sons and 5 living daughters, and 2 deceased sons and 2 deceased daughters.

There seems to be a trend for the decendants to take the name Walker Barr, although on the records I have sourced to date, Walker is noted as their middle name, or the second last name in the case where they have 4 or more christian names.
They immigrated to Australia somewhere between 1851 and 1854.

Can anyone help?
Rebekah
