Classification: Query
Surnames: Barren, Barron, Baron, Barrentine, Munn, Muns, Nunn, Nuns
Through my own family research of the Barrentine name, I have come across something that is confusing to say the least. My grandmother has in her possession, about 8 very tattered and torn pages from what appears to be a handwritten log. They are still attached to the spine of what was once a book. She says that she obtained these pages from a trunk once belonging to her grandfather, Joseph Edgar Barrentine. The dates on these pages are handwritten, beginning January, 1871. From what I've been able to piece together and what is legible, I have extracted the following information:
2 or 3 pages of a labor log detailing work done to build houses, work done in fields, to include time needed for work (1/2 day, 1 day, etc.) and what appears to be wages for that work.
A handwritten birth log, as follows:
Amos Washington was borned on the 21st day of April, 1838
Sarah Jane was borned on the 28th day of December, 1838
Alexander Lafayette was borned on the ? day of December, 1860
Timothy Hinton Barron was borned on the 11th day of May, 1862
Ellen Jane Barron was borned on the 6th day of April, 1865
Mary Lillio(a)n was borned on the 30th day of September, 1871
Sarah Jane died on the 19th day of May, 1873(83)-this number has been written over so it is hard to tell what is the original.
On another page there are the same names written along with the following names:
Ann May Barron
Letey Ann Nuns
Tiney and Thomas "Jab" Nuns
Bell Nuns
(These are handwritten as I have said and the last name "Nuns" may be a mistake in my reading of the notes.)
I have been able to locate one record to verify any of this information. I found it on an LDS search. It shows an Amos W. Barron married to a Sarah Jane Munn but there is no source identified. The birth years seem to match as well as the marriage date.
If anyone has any information that may help me identify these pages, please contact me at hspainter@hotmail.com or hollygordon@sbcglobal.net
