To anyone that can help me. My GGreat-Parents lived in Concepcion, Texas. They were Pedro Elizondo and Rita Barrera. Pedro was from Starr County and Rita was from Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Alot of her family moved to San Diego, Texas. One of her sisters, Maria De Jesus Barrera Canales lived there. I am trying to find out when she died and where she is buried. She had three children, my grandmother, Asencion, Baltazar and Jose Angel. My Grandfather, Pedro remarried in 1897 to Manuela Gurierrez.
If anyone has any info please let me know.

My name is Ruben Torres Barrera. My father's name was Manuel Chavez Barrera and understand that my grandfather whose name was Manuel Barrera also is buried in Monterrey, Mexico. My grandmother's name was Julia Chavez. The grandparents I grew up to know were my fathers aunt and uncle. My father's aunt was a Barrera. Her name was Isabel Barrera who later married Jose Villaneda also from Monterrey, Mexico. Now my mother's maiden name was Sara Picaso Torres who later married my father on 8/8/1954 and became Mrs. Sara Torres Barrera. The had eight children including myself. My sister's name is Esther Barrera Fuentes, my brother's name is Gilbert Torres Barrera, my sister's name is Isabel Barrera Diaz, my sister's name, who died on 6/17/74, Herlinda Torres Barrera, my brother's name is Luis Torres Barrera aka "Louie", my brother's name is Manuel Torres Barrera, Jr. and my sister's name is Irma Barrera Garcia. From all of us my mother has 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. My father has since passed away on 6/30/81. My father was also married before to Phyllis Gutierrez Caygle and they two daughters. My sister's name is Julia Barrera Knapp and my other sister's name is Gloria Barrera Villaneda. La familia creo que le cambió el apellido (que supuestamente era Miranda y les puso Sarabia) a los hijos para enviarlos a Cuba e impedir que los cogiera el cruel servicio militar conocido como “la Quinta española”. Lo que no sé es si también les cambiaron el nombre. Claro esto no he podido verificarlo. Mi madre dice que de España vinieron a buscarle para recobrar la herencia pero ellos por miedo no volvieron y que los papeles de la propiedad los recuerda en un baul que no sabe a donde fue a parar...????

Martin and Natalia Barrera had 4 sons, Leandro, Gonzalo, Pablo and Carmen. They were all born around Piedras Negras, Mexico. They moved to Texas and settled in Gonzales, TX sometime around the beginning of the 20th century.

My father's parents were Edubijes Cantu and Pablo Barrera. They only had 1 son (Guadalupe). His mother passed away and his father Pablo left his son in the care of his parents (Martin & Natalia Barrera). Pablo moved to New York, married and had a son and a daughter. We would like more info on Edubijes Cantu and Pablo Barrera.

My last name is Barrera. I am from San Gabriel (southern california) but I have many relatives in San Jose, CA and in Del Rio, TX. My father's name is Ernesto Barrera and his father was Conrado Barrera. Conrado died in So. Ca in 1983 or so. My family has a reunion every year in Ca or Tx, it varies from year to year. I don't know many of my realtives so I'm not sure if I've been any help to you.

I see your message in quite old. Hope you get this. I am
one of your distant cousins in San Jose, where the reunions
are held every 3rd year. Next year it (2003) will be Bakersfield.
I am decendent of Francisco Barrera, you are a decendent
of Pedro (they were brothers). Remember the 3 brothers. Francisco is sitting in a chair.
I used to play football with you dad (Ernie) in about 1952. I
was about 12 then. I went to your uncle Ray's wedding in
about 1962. Now he has a son Ray jr, that looks very much
like my son Mark. Really amazing. Ask Ray's wife.
Francisco was Pedro's father and Francisco was his father.
Hoping to add to this info someday. I don't have any
info on the wives, so progress is slow.
Hope you can make the reunion next year, and we can

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Michael Paul Barrera, 26, of Von Ormy, Texas, was killed on Oct. 28 in Baqubah, Iraq. Barrera was fatally injured when his tank was hit with an improvised explosive device.

Barrera was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

The incident is under investigation.

Juana (who went by Jane) was my husband's mother. The story goes that she and her sister were orphaned at an early age when their parents were killed in a car wreck. I am the grandson of Genoveva (sister's name) and Antonio Barrera who lived in Rio Grande City, Tx. I now live in Parker,Az. I'm not researching the Barrera's. But I did have a question about Victoria Esperiqueta. Was she from Mission, Texas? I have a great great grandmother (she was widowed) who had two sons possibly 3. I was wondering if Victoria Esperiqueta might be related to them. And if she is her real last name spelling is Esperiquette and they originated in France. I have the two sons names but I can't make out the spellings (census). And the possible 3rd son is Chico. I think its a dimunitive but of what I don't know.
