Gilbert Barreras, 69, a resident of Belen, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, August 28, 2001 at the Belen Care & Rehabilitation. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Gilbert served his country with pride in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Dolores Barreras. Gilbert is survived by his five children, Mike and his wife, Denise, and Ricky, both of Palmer, TX, Jeff Barreras and Dina Martinez, Brenda Barreras and Manuel Lopez, and Michele Baca and her husband, Steven, all of Pueblitos, NM; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerome; three sisters, Rosela, Lillian, and Florinda. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Viewing will be held on Thursday, 5:30 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church with Interment following in the Parish Cemetery. Romero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
