Heather,

I am basically finished with my wife’s application now, but will need to put a formal DAR Application package together. Hopefully your local DAR Registrar is more helpful than ours. On your side, here’s what I found after a little diggin’:

Gen 1 _ Heather Mull
01) Copy of your Birth Certificate … required for Gen 1
02) Copy of your husband’s Birth (or Death) Certificate … expected for Gen 1
03) Copy of your Marriage License … expected for Gen 1

Gen 2 _ 1925 Wanda (Cayton) Sweet
04) Copy of Wanda’s Birth (or Death) Certificate … expected for Gen 2
05) Copy of her husband’s Birth (or Death) Certificate … expected for Gen 2
06) Copy of their Marriage License … expected for Gen 2
07) 1930 KS Census: SWEET: Willard D (40-MO), Orpha (27-KY), Wanda (5-KS), Irvin D (3 6/12-KS), Orpha A (2 6/12-KS) … not really needed if 1,2,3 are attached

Gen 3 _ 1902 Orpha O (Peaslee) Cayton
08) 1910 KY Census: CAYTON: John B (35-KY), Estella Dee (35-IN), Robert (11-IN), Preston (10-IN), Orpha O (8-KY), Harold B (4-IN), Charles L (2-KY), Georgia H (1-KY)

Gen 4 _ 1876 Estella Dee (Barricklow) Peaslee
09) 1880 KS Census: PEASLEE: Abraham (40-IN), Julia (39-IN), Herman (10-IN), Walter (9-IN), Marton (8-IN), Stella D (4-IN)

Gen 5 _ 1841 Julia Barricklow
10) 1865 KS Census: BARRICKLOW: Henry (66-PA), Mary (55-PA), Mary A (26-IN), George R (30-IN), JULIA (24-IN), Sanford C (20-IN), Henry VD (15-IN)

Gen 6 _ 1798 Henry Barricklow
11) 1835 Probate of 1770 Daniel Barricklow's will names Henry as an heir. A copy of this will was in the Record Copy #632956 package purchased from DAR.

Gen 7 _ 1770 Daniel Barricklow ................. (see DAR Record Copy #632956)
Gen 8 _ 1742 PATRIOT Conrad Barkelow ... (see DAR Record Copy #632956)
Gen 9 _ 1720 PATRIOT Daniel Barkelow ......(see DAR Record Copy #632956)

Note: It was unnecessary, but the Record Copy only included a partial copy of 1742 Conrad’s will listing his son Daniel. A full copy has been ordered from the PA Fayette County Clerk’s Register of Wills office.

If you were to join DAR, your kin could easily jump on your Record Copy to join DAR or SAR and avoid repeating all the research needed to get back to your Gen 7.

Try to get a copy of the documents referenced and take the package to your local DAR chapter Registrar. She should guide you through. http://www.dar.org/natsociety/chapters.cfm

I am the Registrar for our TXSSAR Brazos Valley Chapter that meets in Granbury, Texas. Keep me updated how this all goes. Good Luck.
Larry
That's terrific!

Stella D, daughter of Julia and Abraham Peaslee, was my great-grandmother. I had heard that her daughter/my grandmother, Orpha Oneida (Cayton) Sweet, had been accepted into the DAR; however, I've never confirmed that.

I live in Douglas County, KS, and would be happy to help you with this project. If you can point me in the right general direction - let me know what qualifies for documentation, and what you've looked for and found or not found - I can do some research on the Henry and Julia connections. I can search at the Baker University Library in Baldwin City, as well as Douglas County and Kansas University sources in Lawrence, and Kansas State records in Topeka.

My name is Heather Mull; my mother is Wanda (Sweet) Mull.

I don't have any children, but I have a sister and some nieces who I think would be pretty enthusiastic about the DAR opportunity.

Thanks so much for getting back to me and for the info. Let me know if/how I can help.

Heather

I have recently received DAR Record Copy #632956 for ancestor #A006129. It includes:
[Gen 8] 1720 DANIEL Barricklo Patriot
[Gen 7] 1742 CONRAD Barricklow Patriot
[Gen 6] 1770 DANIEL Barricklow (father of our Henry and grandfather of Julia)
[Gen 5] 1795 CONRAD Barricklow
[Gen 4] 1836 WILLIAM Stewart Barricklow

Using the DAR Record Copy, the hard part becomes proving Henry is Daniel’s son and Julia is Henry’s daughter. From other sources, I have found:

HENRY ….. A partial copy of 1770 Daniel’s will names Henry and Edward as administrators of his estate. A full copy of the will is on order.

JULIA ……. The 1865 Kansas Census, Palmyra Township, Douglas Co shows Henry and Mary with children Mary A, George R, Julia (age 24-IN), Sanford C, Henry VD.

Adding detail, the 1880 KS Census shows Abraham Peaslee married to Julia (age 39-IN) with children Herman, Walter, Stella D. Both Census records have Julia’s birth about 1841 and both show her born in Indiana.

Even better, page 1869 of the book Douglas County Marriages (1854-1884) records Abraham Peaslee married to Julia Barricklow on 10 Mar 1869.

Things are looking good for getting my wife, and then daughter accepted into DAR.
Larry
Daniel _ Revolutionary War Patriot
I am trying to prove part of the Barricklow line to get my wife into the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR):
.
Gen 10] Daniel (1720 NJ – 1801 NJ) m: Mary Miller
Gen 09] Conrad (1742 NJ – 1802 PA) m: Sarah Miller
Gen 08] Daniel (1770 NJ – 1827 IN) m: Judith (Oglevee) Oldham
Gen 07] Henry (1798 PA – 1872 PA) m: Mary Ann Lotton ... founder of Baker Univ.
Gen 06] Julia/Judith (1840 IN – 1890 KS) m: Abraham Peaslee
.
DAR has accepted both [10] Daniel and [09] Conrad as Revolutionary War Patriots and proof submitted includes the lineage of [08] Daniel. The 1865 Kansas Census clearly shows Julia as the daughter of Henry and Mary.
.
The only real problem is proving [07] Henry is the son of [08] Daniel.
Does anyone know of sources?
Thanks’, Larry
Larry,
I am also a descendent of Julia/Judith Barricklow and am interested in DAR membership. Did you receive any helpful responses/make any progress on your April posting?

I've communicated on and off with Ted Barricklow (descendant of Julia/Judith's brother, Cass(?)), who lives in CA. He has done extensive, documented work on the family tree and could probably help - if I can relocate his contact info.

Anyway, "hi" to my cousin - would love to hear back from you.

Barricklow Family Pictures - No Names

Hello,
My name is Dawn Barricklow
I have a very old photo album that my aunt let me make copies of all the photos. My grandparents have passed away and I only know whom 5 or six of the photo's are of. There are alot of (maybe 20 to 30) pictures in this album and when I was there last I scanned them, then left the book with her because it was so old I was afraid it wouldn't make another transfer well.
The Photos that are in it are EXTREMELY perfect. Its eerily as if they want named...anyway. Since the photos I KNOW about are John Dugan Barricklow, Mary Dunlap (John's Wife), and I know two of their children one is of Frank Barricklow (their son) and the other is of Frederick Henry Barricklow (their other son). There is also a picture of Fredericks first wife Carrie Rogers. All others are a blank except some have long lost studio names to them.
If you or anyone think you may know please get back to me. I would be more than happy to share so I could get them figured out.
I cannot be positive that all the photos are Barricklow's as some could be Dunlaps.
Hoping for help!! Thanks a bunch!!

Hello....er cousin?? Ha Ha! I have traced my family history (including myself) back 13 generations. I am Dawn Barricklow, My father was Terry Barricklow, His father was Donald Barricklow / Son of Frederick Henry Barricklow / Son of John Dugan Barricklow / Son of Frederick Barricklow / Son of Hendrick Van Barkelo / Son of Hendrick Barricklow / Son of Daniel Barricklo / Son of Coenraed Van Borckeloo / Son of John Bernts Lubberdinck / Son of Brent Lubberdinck!!!!!!!!

Thats all the further back I could get and since the names mostly came from the farm they lived on and the area (town or shire) the farm was located in, it could be rough getting any further.

I am in the possion of a pamphlet/book that was given to my father as a child with some VERY interesting family history in it. Its title is "The History and Genealogy of the John Dugan Barricklow Family." The date on the cover is 1664--1942.

This book has date info, places, cost of things listed children of children, burial info, and theres even a small picture of John Dugan Barricklow and his wife inside.

I would love to find other information. Copies of birth or death or marriage records and things of that sort. Also anyone possesing pictures I would love to check some out sometime!! Thanks and feel free to contact me anytime. Im an avid searcher. Ihave 6 family names I have been researching and several binders of stuff. Always happy to help of get help!!

Thanks a bunch!
Darrell,
I'm surprised nobody has responded to your message. The information that your cousin gave you is completely off the track. Our Barricklow line are descendants of Willem Janszen Lubberdinck/van Borckeloo. He immigrated to New Amsterdam from Borculo, Holland in the 1600's. If you have not been contacted about this, please let me know.
Ted Barricklow

Henry Barricklow's son, your Sanford Cass was
brother to my great grandfather, William.
William's son, Charles was my long, lost
grandfather. I would be interested in any
information about Charles. He married, had a
son in Arkansas, showed up in Oklahoma where
he married my grandmother in 1908. He dropped
out of sight after the birth of my father,
Roy. There is a long article about Anthony
van Salee and his wife, Greitje Reyniers, in
The Troublesome Turk, in New York History,
The Quarterly Journal of the New York State
Historical Assn., Vol. XLVI No. 4, by Leo
Hershkowitz. I would be very interested in
hearing any family stories you may have,
stories that make our ancestors seem human
and real. for instance, Anthony's wife,
Grietje Reyniers was the first, best
prostitute in Manhattan. Anthony and Grietje
were my ancestor, Willem van Borckelloo's
first in-laws when he married Cornelia van
Salee, his first wife, in 1658. Our line
descends from Coenraed, born in 1680, to
Willem and his second wife, Leysebet Jans
Clausen.

Crystal. All of us are related to one of two Van Borckelloo brothers who came to New Amsterdam in the 17th. century from Holland. To start to trace your ancestry you need to know as much as you can about who your relatives are: names, birthdates, birthplaces, as far back as you can go. You may want to contact my brother Ted F. Barricklow, and David Bartlow, both on this message board. They may be able to help you. Good luck. Doug

Willem Janz Lubberdinck was born on Lubberdinck farm in Geesteren in 1620-something. Upon arriving in New Amsterdam in 1657, he called himself Willem Janz Van Borckelloo. Why he called himself after Borkelo instead of Geesteren once he came to this country, we don't know. The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record has a good article by Hendrik Slok about the Van Barkelos on America, going into the Dutch Reformed Church records for birth and marriage dates for the family back to Willem's grandfather, Bernt Lubberdinck. Mrs. Sell has articles in the same journal about both Willem, and his brother, Harman's family histories in this country. The third volume of Charles Hoppin's Washington-McClain Ancestry has very interesting sections about the Van Borckelloo family, the Van Salee family, which Willem married into for his first marriage, and the Johnsons who are related to us through one of Willem's daughters from his first marriage.

Shaun,
The first birth recorded in churchbooks in Geesteren (not Giesteren) is in 1651. Before that year there are no birth records. All you can say for sure is that the father of Willem Jansen is called Jan. In those days people were also called after the name of the farm they lived in. Does Wilm has perhaps a second name (or what are the names of his children)?
Henk

Amberlee, Did you ever get a response from anybody? Was Bert born before 1920? Do you have any idea where he was born or where he was likely to be living in 1920? Even an estimated date and guesstimate of locale will help. Dave B.

Ted,
Thanks for your reply. I will have to search for those pictures again and will scan and send them to you. In the meantime, I send you an email with an attachment. The attachment is a picture of Henry Barricklow, it's a very large file hope it makes it. Let me know. I have other pictures of Barricklow people as I am sure you do too. Prehaps we could share.

Norma

Shaun,
Yep, our ancestors Willem and Harmen Van Borckeloo Lubberdink came from Borculo, in the Netherlands. Andreas Lubberdink, is young German with whom I have been in contact. In fact, he sent me his genealogy which connects with ours. Andreas' ancestor was Jan Jansz Lubberdink born in 1623, one of Willem's brothers. I would be happy to share with you. Just contact me.
Ted

Norma,
My wife's mother's maiden name was Ruth Galbreth. The Galbreths moved to California from Cedar Falls, Iowa. Reverend William Galbreth originally came from Pennsylvania. I don't recognize any of the names, but you know of course, that Roy Douglas Barricklow and Eva Dale Powers were my parents. I would certainly be interested in seeing that picture.
Ted.
