I am trying to track a Barrington group who originated in Co. Clare, Ireland, but had several family members wind up in the Waverly, NY area, and then right across the state line into Sayre and S. Waverly, PA.
John Barrington and Bridget Downes lived in the Kilmurry civil parish area and had the following children that I know of: Mary (1861-1942), Bridget (1865-1937), Ann (christened Honoria in 1865-1939), John (1876) and James (1877). We suspect that they also had daughters Ellen (1868) and Susan (1867-1951), plus possibly others. All of the women emigrated in a chain migration pattern to New York, starting in roughly 1880 with Ellen arriving last in 1895. We have never been able to find the boys. Other than the immigration record, I've never found any further trace of Ellen. Ann died unmarried in NYC. The other 3 women married and had families in the Tioga Co., NY area. Susan married Michael Hogan, Mary married Edward Gorman and Bridget married Francis Clohessy. All had children.
We believe the women may have followed an uncle who is found in the Waverly area in 1870, and from 1880 on just across the state line in S. Waverly and Sayre, PA. His name is Patrick, and he was born circa 1833. Patrick was found with his 2 brothers, John (circa 1842) and Michael (circa 1843) in the 1870 and a woman named Hannorah (1810) who is believed to be their mother. John never married and is found in a pauper's institute in 1880 in Owego, NY. Michael last appears in 1887 as a laborer in Waverly. No burial records for any of them have been located.
Patrick married a woman name Ann and had daughter Anne and Mary. Mary is not found after 1900. Ann married a Holdsworth and had a son Joseph. Patrick also had sons Edward (never married) Thomas and Michael. No record of Thomas and Michael have been found after 1880.
Ann (1865) has a birth record indicating she was born in Craggaknock, Co. Clare. James (1877) has a birth record indicating that he was born in nearby Cloonenagh. Ellen's passenger record indicates she comes from Clonmina, which is thought to be a mangled version of Cloonenagh.
The Patrick born circa 1833 is thought to be the brother of John Barrington who married Bridget Downes. We believe the men descend from a Patrick or a Michael Barrington found in Quilty West townland in Kilmurry civil parish in 1855. The Patrick Barrington of 1855 also appears to have holdings in in adjacent Kilmacduane civil parish, or possibly this man was the father of the Patrick and Michael found in Kilmurry.
If anyone recognizes any of these names or locations, could you please contact me?
