Texas Barringtons

I really need some help from many on this list: I am
researching the descendants of Willis Barrington and
Sarah Mathews as many of you are aware of. To date I
have located approximately 3,300 descendants, many of
them ended up in Texas. At the moment I am trying
desperately to complete two Barrington family lines,
both sons of Willis. These two sons are Marshall
Mathews and Washinton Waid. To date I have listed 428
descendants of Marshall with about 120 pages of
history on them. On Washington Waid I have 651
descendants listed and about 140 pages of history. One
of my major hangups is on a son of Marshall, he is
Thomas Whitfield Barrington.

Willis and Sarah had Elizabeth "Eliza" Olive
Barrington who married Isaac Coe. I have 607 of their
descendants, 135 pages. Lucinda Dimmos Barrington,
married Amon Lunsford, 417 descendants and 100 pages.
Elizabeth Jane Barrington married John McAninch
Whitley, 228 descendants and 60 pages. Those are the
Texas Barrington descendants. Willis and Sarah also
had Marion Madison who married Anne Margaret Heidt, on
them I have 767 descendants and 200+ pages, William
Winfield married Rhoda Weaver, 298 descendants and 90
pages, Permelia Ann Adaline Barrington married James
Alexander Whitfield, 128 descendants and 40 pages.

I am looking for more descendants of all of them but
at the time I am desperately trying to find more on
the Texas descendats. Iff ANY of you are connected
with the Texas Barringtons PLEASE contact me, I NEED
YOUR INFORMATION. My goal is to locate at least 5,000
descendants before I end this.

Donnie Shackleford
Barrington of Waverly, NY and Sayre, PA

I am trying to track a Barrington group who originated in Co. Clare, Ireland, but had several family members wind up in the Waverly, NY area, and then right across the state line into Sayre and S. Waverly, PA.

John Barrington and Bridget Downes lived in the Kilmurry civil parish area and had the following children that I know of: Mary (1861-1942), Bridget (1865-1937), Ann (christened Honoria in 1865-1939), John (1876) and James (1877). We suspect that they also had daughters Ellen (1868) and Susan (1867-1951), plus possibly others. All of the women emigrated in a chain migration pattern to New York, starting in roughly 1880 with Ellen arriving last in 1895. We have never been able to find the boys. Other than the immigration record, I've never found any further trace of Ellen. Ann died unmarried in NYC. The other 3 women married and had families in the Tioga Co., NY area. Susan married Michael Hogan, Mary married Edward Gorman and Bridget married Francis Clohessy. All had children.

We believe the women may have followed an uncle who is found in the Waverly area in 1870, and from 1880 on just across the state line in S. Waverly and Sayre, PA. His name is Patrick, and he was born circa 1833. Patrick was found with his 2 brothers, John (circa 1842) and Michael (circa 1843) in the 1870 and a woman named Hannorah (1810) who is believed to be their mother. John never married and is found in a pauper's institute in 1880 in Owego, NY. Michael last appears in 1887 as a laborer in Waverly. No burial records for any of them have been located.

Patrick married a woman name Ann and had daughter Anne and Mary. Mary is not found after 1900. Ann married a Holdsworth and had a son Joseph. Patrick also had sons Edward (never married) Thomas and Michael. No record of Thomas and Michael have been found after 1880.

Ann (1865) has a birth record indicating she was born in Craggaknock, Co. Clare. James (1877) has a birth record indicating that he was born in nearby Cloonenagh. Ellen's passenger record indicates she comes from Clonmina, which is thought to be a mangled version of Cloonenagh.

The Patrick born circa 1833 is thought to be the brother of John Barrington who married Bridget Downes. We believe the men descend from a Patrick or a Michael Barrington found in Quilty West townland in Kilmurry civil parish in 1855. The Patrick Barrington of 1855 also appears to have holdings in in adjacent Kilmacduane civil parish, or possibly this man was the father of the Patrick and Michael found in Kilmurry.

If anyone recognizes any of these names or locations, could you please contact me?

Cindy Wood
cwood91262@aol.com

Emma Dillon was born in Ireland in 1861. Then Emma Dillon married Bramen Henry Wooledge in Neenah, Wisconsin, in 1876. I do not known how/when/with whom she got to the USA. I do know that she later died in Fargo, North Dakota in 1937. She had John Dillon Wooledge in October 1881, in Antigo, Wisconsin.

I'm trying to trace the Barrington name - my mother's maiden name. My great grandfather was Frank William Barrington, born June 1881, married to Mary Lamb in 1905. His father was William George Barrington, born June 1853, married to Caroline Westerman in 1876. His father was also William George Barrington and he was married to Elizabeth Flynn.

I'm also interested in the Lambs, Westermans and Flynns. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Interested in any further information about my Barrington ancestors. Martin was born in 1833, baptized in the RC church in Ennistymon. He emigrated first to Canada, where he married and began a family, and then to WI, where he settled and remained. His parents Patrick and Mary Stack Barrington stayed in Ireland. His sisters Catherine and Mary came with him to Canada and married and remained there. Other siblings included Thomas (1828), John (1831), Patrick (1836) and possibly others. Baptismal sponsors were Terrence Garrihy, Joan Stack, Dan Garrihy, James Garrihy, Thomas Connors, Nancy Garrihy, Patrick and M. Stack.

Looking for any information on the Barringtons of North & South Carolina -- Bogan Barrington married Elizabeth (Eliza) Chavis - possible that he had a sister name Mary Jane who married an Alexander Chavis -- the story is that Mary Jane (Barrington) Chavis lived to be 103 years old and is buried in the Chavis Family Cemetery in Chavistown, Wallace, Marlboro County , SC -- Bogan and wife Elizabeth and a child named Eliza Barrington are buried there - I've seen the head stones but nothing on Mary Jane -- any assistance on finding out who her parents are sure would be appreciated

Misty
ltlhawk@bellosuth.net

Mary ( ) Donohue Bar(r)ington, Toledo,Lucas, OH

Looking for maiden name of Mary. First marriage to Jeremiah Donohue. Two children: Dennis @1848, Mary Ann @1850. Jeremiah died 1852. Mary remarries James Barrington. According to 1860 census Dennis's name is changed to James Barrington and Mary Ann's last name is also Barrington. Dennis is killed in the Civil War using the name James Barrington. Mary Ann marries John Marker and uses the name (Mary) Ann Donohue as her maiden name. Mary receives a Civil War pension because her son Dennis/James was her sole support. On the 1880 census Mary Barington(age 50) is a boarder on Allen Street and lists Canada as her birthplace, as well as that of her parents. When Mary dies in 1890 the body goes unclaimed for several days. Her death certificate lists her birthplace as Canada, but no other information. She is buried in my great grandparents' plot in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. According to Mary Ann (Donohue) Marker's death certificate, Ellen Cullen of St. Marys, OH was her mother, and James Barrington was her father. This is misinformation. What was Mary's maiden name? I cannot locate her anywhere on the family tree. The only tie is that my great grandparents also came from Canada (area around Montreal). Does this story mean anything to anyone?

Can anyone help me with research that I'm doing for a
television documentary series here in New Zealand.

I'm looking for information about a Barrington who arrived
in New Zealand in 1863 from Victoria in Australia. Where
he came from before that is unknown.

His initials seem to have been A.J. - and his first name
may have been Alphonse (although he was also known as
George). He was a gold prospector - and according to his
diary he had been prospecting for ten years (so probably
born prior to 1838?).

He performed a prodigious feat of exploration in our South
Island - but there is no evidence of him after this.

I wondering if any of this very sketchy information might
ring any bells at all.

Many thanks

Michael Higgins
Researcher
Television New Zealand
Bessie Barrington Taylor

My great-aunt Bessie Barrington Taylor (daughter of J. M. Barrington and Eleanor Elizabeth Moore of Crenshaw County, Alabama) was the wife of James Marion Taylor who, I believe, founded Taylor Auto Parts in Andalusia, Covington County, Alabama. Aunt Bessie was Mr. Taylor's second wife (married ca.1925?) and they lived on Andalusia's College St. in a house which has since been torn down. This couple moved at some point to Bradenton, Florida, where Aunt Bessie died a suicide in 1941. She is buried in Andalusia's Magnolia Cemetery at the side of the first Mrs. Taylor who lies next to Mr. Taylor.

Aunt Bessie was artistic, studied art and painted a number of paintings inspired by her Alabama roots and her Florida environment. Does anyone know if any of her works are extant either in private hands or in perhaps a local art museum or library. I am not necessarily interested in buying or acquiring these paintings, but I would like to see as many of her works as I possibly could without intruding on anyone's privacy. I remember having been told that some of her works are in a Florida museum (maybe a small local one), but I don't know exactly which museum that might be.

Do any of the extended Barringtons know or know of this woman?

Thanks.

Terry Mount

p.s. Bessie Margarette Barrington was a granddaughter of Marion Madison Barrington.

John Barrinton married Martha Bozeman , Putnam Co., GA in 1831

Are any of you related to the John Barrington who marries Martha Bozeman in Putnam Co., GA in 1831? Both John and Martha are listed on the 1850 Census as being from Georgia, but that's quite possibly inaccurate, as we all know. They appear in earlier censuses in Putnam County, but by 1850 have moved across the county line into Milledgeville, GA. In 1850, they have a daughter listed as Ann B. Barrington. I am interested to know where Martha Bozeman is from, and who her parents are. If anyone knows, I'd sure appreciate a hand here. Thanks. Esther Bozeman

Am looking for info on a Bill Barrington who married my aunt, Dorothy Lee Cooper, in Arkansas in late 1930s. They left Arkansas in the mid 1940s and relocated in Southern California. They had at least one child, Dottie, who was born after they moved to CA. We lost all contact with this family after they moved. Would love to know what happened to them and their children, who would be my cousins. Thanks for any help available.
In it is listed a Mrs. Vivian B. Barrington. This program states the following about Mrs. Barrington.

Secretary to Chief, Appeals and Research Section, Internal Security Division... responsible for directing non-professional activities, dockets, reports and statistics in that section, she has served in the Department since 1939 and is recognized by all as notably cooperative, amicable, efficient and outstanding in the administration of her duties.

The program also has a photo of Mrs. Vivian B. Barrington.
