Hi:
The Barrs of SC originated from a James Barrs from Warwickshire England who arrived in Charles Town, SC in 1768. He was sentenced to death in Warwick in 1767 for stealing sheep, but was sentenced to 14 years in the Colonies instead.
He ended up in Savanna Georgia during the Revolutionary War and was pressed into military service by the Crown military. He fought the Colonist military and militia in the southeastern section of Norht America.
He was eventually killed and his wife Susie received his last pay roll. He had at least one son, William Barrs, who was also pressed into the Crown military. He survived.
My Barrs line (John and Sarah Spears/Barrs) came to North Carolina in 1749 from Warwickshire England where they had been born and married in 1748.
Both the SC and NC Barrs families were kin. One SC Barrs was killed in a gun fight in my G-G Grand Father James C. Barrs General Store in Barrsville, Columbia County, FL in 1872. His name was Jno Barrs and he was 'visiting his cousins Jim and John Barrs in Barrsville' when both he and G-G Grand Dad were shot. He died and the trial was held in 1887 in Lake City FL. The notes of the trial are on the USGenWeb.org Columbia County website as is information on Barrsville, FL.
