Hi Marlene, I wrote to you about my family Barrs .My father was emmett William Barrs born in Augusta Ga in 1927. His father was William E Barrs, born in South Carolina in 1881, He had brothers named Gilbert,Jack, and frankln and others My great G William Barrs of South Carolina, I think his mother was Winnie. First let me say to all researchers who posted to the Barrs Family History and Barrs Leicestershire Ancestry.com FORUM that I apologize for not replying to your query until today but I have not been being notified of your query by Ancestry.com until today, September 17, 2009. If you are still seeking answers about our Barrs families I would be happy to share whatever I have that you might be able to utilize if you will contact me directly at e-mail albarrs@wfeca.net. We have traced my Barrs line back to their immigration to North Carolina in 1750 from Warwickshire England and from there back to Bulkington Village, Warwickshire to the early 1500s.

I don't have a lot of information on the South Carolina Barrs. About all that I know is that my North Carolina Barrs are related to the South Carolina Barrs because that came out at the 1887 when John Barrs of South Carolina was shot by two Carroll brothers at the store of my GG Grandfather James C. Barrs in Barrsville, Columbia County, FL. This John was referred to as visiting his cousin Jim Barrs at Barrsville when the shooting occurred. John Barrs owned a farm in Barnwell South Carolina and one of his Barrs descendants still owns the land. He lives in Texas now. I suspect one of John Barrs, Jr. of Lenoir County, NC setled in the Barnwell SC area after leaving home following the death of GGGG Grandfather John Barrs, Jr. in Lenoie County NC. William Barrs of Savannah and Lowrence Barrs have done most of the South Carolina Barrs family history research. I suggest you contact them directly. I know my grandfauther William B arrs born in late 1800's had many siblings both in georgia and south carolina all of which came as sheep herders. Can you help.??

I am trying to find relatives (descendents) of Eston Brooks Barrs, who moved to Alabama (Covington County?) from Georgia. Family records show he was born 14 Oct 1868 and was married to Oberson or Ida A. They had children- Mattie, Jessie, Charles, Earnest, and possibly, Mollie. Eston's parents were Lewis Barrs & Barbary Elvina Williams. Eston's siblings who remained in Georgia were Henry Anderson,Josiah Malachi,Sarah Catherine,James Hiram,Elizar Allis, Jacob Ransom Perly, and Curtis Aaron Barrs. Hi, my name is Stephen Barrs, My Great,Great Grandfathers brother was Isaac Barrs, who was the Grandfather of Charles James Barrs. Isaac was born in Birmingaham abt 1830.

Isaac married Angelina Wood in Aston in 1856. 1861 census they are living in Birmingham. Isaac died 1868 Aston, Angelina died in 1918 Aston.

Thanks for contacting me about Charles James Barrs.

I do have a picture of him with his puppet believed to be during the first world war. I also found a relative in southern England and have pictures of his son in Iraq. I will gather all that I have and send it along to you. We also have an A. Barrs who is a part time ventriloquist in Australia and his brother Paul Barrs who has an online business in Australia.

My name is Gary Colley, living in Western Australia and am the son of Marion Edna Colley nee Barrs who lives in Birmingham, England.

Charles James Barrs, born 1889 and died in 1930, was married to my maternal grandmother May Potter. Charles James Barrs is something of an enigma to my family and I’ve been trying to find out more. My mum told me he was a ventriloquist. This sounds like too much of a coincidence not to be him. I’ve found out he was a compositor, his father was Charles and mother Martha, but little else.

If this sounds like the same person to you, I’d be grateful if you could send the photo. You also said that you had a picture of his son in Iraq. My mum’s siblings were Leslie, Irene, Olive, Gordon and Hilda. Only my mum and Gordon are still alive. I think Les was in the army.

I do remember having the descendant of a Charles James Barrs of England who was a Ventriloquist contact me and send me a picture of him. I have pictures of his son too while on duty in Iraq...

I have the Barrs killed in the Blitz in my archived files someplace and don't remember his name. I will see if I can find that information too.

Sorry but I don't have any genealogy information on the Barrs of London although I have found quite a number of them. One was killed during the German blitz in WWII. My Barrs family lived in Warwickshire from the 1400 and my first ancestor to immigrate to America was John Barrs born 1727 and his new wife Sarah Spears who immigrated in 1750.

My 9th cousin once removed Tony Barrs was born in Nuneaton Warwickshire and now lives in Scotland in retirement, but he doesn't have any information on the London Barrs either. There was also a number of Barrs in Birmingham. The three locations where most were found was Lancashire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire.

I have just discovered that a previously thought to have been unmarried great aunt (Frances Hepp) was in fact married to a Charles James Barrs in 1903 in Islington, London. They had three children (at least) Charles James (1905), Frances Elizabeth (1908) and Henry (1912). This gt aunt then married again in 1914/15 and grew the family we all knew about.

I have no record of her first husband's death although as I have only just found out about him, I have not been able to do much research.

If this rings any bells with anyone I would love to hear from you.

I don't recognize any of the surnames you posted. I do know there are BARRS who came from Germany. I suspect they migrated there from Normandy or France. My first generation to come to the USA did so in 1749 from England. We believe the BARRS of England came from Old Normandy and spelled their surname BARRES. Apparently the surname, when first used in Old Normandy, was spelled de La Barre. These individual families spread out from Old Normandy to France, Germany, Spain and England. We believe they came to Old Normandy from Denmark and were Viking farmers who migrated south due to the excessive cold years that inhibited or prevented the successful growing of crops.

The Barrs you are searching for is connected to my G-G Uncle William W. Barrs, born 1824 in Twiggs County GA to Arthur and Nancy Barrs, of The Nankin District of Brooks County GA, which is located 12 miles south of Quitman GA.

William W. was the younger brother of my G-G Grandfather James C. Barrs.

I have a Barrs Family History Website with family trees that you can research and have direct family information of that line of Barrs. They also have a family reunion in Lee County FL.

My gt. gt. grandmother was Louisa Barrs, b. 1867 in Leicester. She was the daughter of Thomas Cooper Barrs, but thats about all I know. There was a fairly large population of Barrs' around the Peckleton area of Leicestershire at that time. I read your message from the bulletin boards. Pearlie Mae Barrs was the dau of William Joshua Barrs and Susan Coley. She was born Sep 24, 1890 in Pulaski Co. GA and d. Mar 16, 1973 in Bleckley Co, GA. Married Gary Lee. Ch: Willie N. Lee; Jeff Lee; Charles Lee; Jessie Lee; Frank Lee; Mose Lee; Inez Lee; John F. Lee; Charles Lee; Jeff Lee; Leroy Lee; Alice Lee; and Margaret Lee. I don't know any of the birthdates or marriages and families of the offspring. Susan Coley's father was Rolin Coley. She married William Barrs Oct 24, 1879 in Pulaski Co. GA. Later he married her sister Malinda Feb 9, 1896. My grandfather was James G. was brother to William Joshua Barrs.

Daniel Farnell born 1838 was married to Julian Barrs born 1838, youngest child of my G-G Grandparents James C. Barrs and Martha Elizabeth Land, in Madison, Madison County FL in 1858. They lived in Hamilton County FL and later moved to Day Lafayette County FL. I have located Dan Farnell's grave in the Day cemetery, but Julian's grave is not there. I am looking for information on a George Barrs who was a farmer working in arround Lawson , Missouri in the 1930's.

My father was born on April 16, 1932. When he was about 6 monnths old he was adopted by the Mills family. We never knew who his real father was, until last year when my aunt sent me his birth certificate.

On the birth cerrtificate it states his father was George Barrs.
from Lawson, MO His mother was Georgia Hazel Holtzclaw
from Lawson, MO. Does anyone know this George Barrs who was around 21 years of age in the early 1930's

I have a Magdalena Helena Sophia Bahrsen born Dec 31, 1775 in Roeckwitz,Mecklenburg-Scherwin,Germany
died June 11, 1802 in Roeckwitz
She was married to a Carl Friedr. Christoph Dust Nov 20, 1793 in Zwiedorf,Mecklenburg-Schwerin,Germany.

I also have a Johan Ludewig Bars married to a Maria Dorothea Dust born: october 25, 1797 in Zwiedorf.

I also show a Christoph Baars being godfather to a Ana Dust and Joachim Jahncke son: Christoph Friederich Jahncke born October 26, 1802 in Zwiedorf,Mecklenberg-Schwerin,Germany.
