Surnames: HODGE, BARRUS, PIERSON
Looking for information on BARRUS in Otsego County, NY. My gg grandmother was Kaziah/Keziah BARRUS, b. 2/17/1813, NYS, exact location unknown. Second wife of Spencer F. HODGE (b. Feb. 17, 1813), married 12/26/1846 in Otsego County. She had 3 children: James Albert, b. 1847; was in the same paper (see attached); John Jay, b. 1849, d. 9/9/1924; and my g gf, Henry S., b. Aug. 19, 1851 in Beloit, WI, m. circa 1880 to Adeline PIERSON in NYS, d. 1/8/1926.
She traveled to Wisconsin with Spencer, prob. about 1850, had her last son, Henry there in 1851, and Spencer died in 1852 in Chicago. Keziah came back to NY with the cchildren. She appears in the 1860 and 1870 census living with the Harvey Layton family in Richfield Springs. Don't know when she died or where she is buried.
She may have been related to Alvin BARRUS (b. 1808) who is in the 1850 census with a wife, Nancy, and two daughters, Theresa and Celestia, and one son, Menzo D., in the Town of Richfield. Alvin was the innkeeper at the National Hotel (one of the grand hotels that was formerly part of Richfield Springs' glory due to the sulphur springs) on Main Street in the village). Alvin BARRUS was also Town Supervisor of the Town of Richfield,1856-57 and in 1864, as well as a farmer.
What is the nationality of BARRUS? I'm assuming English, but have found the name recorded on northern Welsh documents. And any help with the BARRUS surname in central NY would be appreciated!
